Description

What happens when you take some serious Blue Oval muscle, pull out all the stops, and create a NASCAR-inspired pony car? Well, you should have a wildly popular halo that generates a bit of buzz and creates some much needed revenue. In the case of Ford and their coveted Boss 429 Mustang, that plot developed into so much more! Carefully finished by specialty firm Kar Kraft, Ford's homologation run of 500 coupes eventually transformed into a full-scale production run of 1,359 vehicles. And while these hot sellers certainly elevated the brand during their day, their outrageous nature virtually guaranteed that, in time, they would become exclusive classics serious collectors dream of owning. The beneficiary of a professional, concours restoration, and packing an original, Boss 429 cubic inch V8, fully documented Boss KK 429 NASCAR 2153 provides one serious investor the best of both worlds: enjoyment of one of Detroit's ultimate muscle cars, and solid equity in a highly exclusive collector car!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Assembled in September of 1969 in Dearborn, Michigan, this incredible Mustang is the beneficiary of a ground-up, concours restoration that was conducted by the experts at Shelby Parts & Restoration of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Since this Mustang was believed to be a solid, 25K-mile survivor, that high quality reboot was supplemented with many original and NOS parts. Once that collection of components was smooth and properly aligned, a correct coat of Grabber Blue 2-stage was accented with a correct black hood scoop. And today, polished and professionally sorted, this coupe rolls as one show stopping classic that preserves some of the best attributes of Ford Motorsports history!

With its timeless proportions and aggressively peaked panels, the first generation Mustang is an inherently attractive design. At the front of this Boss, a silver-trimmed grille centers a patriotic pony emblem between bright headlights, clean parking lamps, a correct chin spoiler and a mirrored bumper. Above that grille, a finned hood leads the eye to like-new glass that's cleared by small stainless wipers and dressed in straight stainless frames. At the sides of that glass, correct mirrors combine with traditional door handles and buff “BOSS 429” call-outs to detail the car's sculpted profile. And at the back of that profile, a “M U S T A N G” branded decklid shades a pony-branded fuel cap, '70-exclusive taillights, small reverse lamps and a second mirrored bumper.

ENGINE

Pop the hood and you'll find an original, Boss 429 cubic inch Ford V8 that, in its fully restored state, does a fantastic job of mimicking assembly line aesthetics. While Dearborn brass rated these lethal powerplants at 375 horses for the sake of appeasing whiny insurance agents, the fact that the mills actually made over 500 horsepower was one of Detroit's worst kept secrets. That's because Ford unapologetically developed their exclusive 'nine' to be a homologation piece for MoPar-hunting NASCAR blocks of the same ilk. At full throttle, the flapper valve opens, drawing cool oxygen through a correctly painted ram air induction system in to a correct, and extremely rare, D0OF-9510-S Holley 4-barrel. Below that juice box, correct 'crescent' heads seat a correct aluminum intake between massive aluminum valve covers. At the front of that intake, a traditional points distributor sequences spark between a marked coil and pliable Autolite Radio Resistance cables. Cast iron exhaust manifolds conduct an octane-fueled symphony through factory-spec tail pipes. In front of those tubes, traditional V-belts spin correct power steering and a correct alternator beneath factory smog equipment. Speaking of water, a correct radiator cycles coolant through reproduction Autolite hoses and old school screw clamps. And, as you can see from our high resolution photography, the Ford Blue beast is homed in a solid engine bay that's finished in a smooth coat of Satin Black skin.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Take a peek under this Ford and you'll find an exceptionally clean chassis that's framed in correctly oversprayed floors. At the center of those floors, a correct Toploader 4-speed wears a correct “RUG AZ” assembly tag. That gearbox spins a correct Drag Pack axle, which is finished with correct 3.91 gears and a correct Traction-Lok differential. That awesome drivetrain rolls on a correct Competition Suspension. At the ends of that suspension, correct power steering combines with correct power front disc and rear drum brakes to provide competent track capability. Factory-spec exhaust pipes funnel roasted dinosaurs through an H-shaped crossover and throaty turbo mufflers. And at the sides of those tubes, chrome Magnum 500s twist reproduction F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around galloping horse center caps.

INTERIOR

Take a look inside this Boss and you'll find a correct Clarion Knit vinyl interior that shows little to no weathering. Correct bench and Corinthian bucket seats are in excellent shape, no doubt receiving some professional upholstery work. In front of those seats, a dual-cowl dash hangs correct telemetry above a vintage Philco radio. Below that dash, a correct console founds a familiar Hurst shifter on spotless carpet. At the sides of the car, 2-tone door panels are decorated with bright wood applique. In front of the driver, a professionally restored Rim Blow Steering Wheel laps stainless-trimmed foot pedals. And behind the cockpit, a small trunk anchors a correct spare tire opposite a correct reproduction battery.
