Frame Off Restored Fury Convertible Golden Commando V8 Automatic
Virtually every classic car enthusiast knows Plymouth as Chrysler's legendary muscle car division. And while the marque was originally envisioned as a stepping stone to the corporation's sportier Dodge and DeSoto offerings, it was also very successful in launching a plethora of legendary performers. That means many of the 1950s and 1960s power monsters MoPar enthusiasts know and love proudly say “Fury” on their fenders. Wrapping a dual-quad, cross-ram Golden Commando 383 in a tailored interior and sweeping sheetmetal, this all-American cruiser HAS to be some of the coolest metal on the planet! And since the car is fresh out of a professional, ground-up restoration, it's one of the nicest Furys on the market. For fans of unique classics, it doesn't get much better than an Exner era Chrysler. And if you're a discerning collector who's itching for an exclusive, big-fin MoPar that'll headline every show in town, this fantastic Plymouth is your hot ticket!
LESS CHRISTINE, MORE ELVIRA
Birthed at the height of legendary designer Virgil Exner's 'Forward Look' movement, Plymouth's well-known Fury series is some of the finest metal to ever leave an American design studio. The spectacular Jet Black and Oyster White example you see here, assembled at Chrysler's Los Angeles manufacturing facility, prowled American streets for just over 50 years. The car's solid, Jet Age sheetmetal reflects smooth two-stage that's barely seen sunshine. That pigment looks great under a fully rebuilt roof that manifests as fresh black canvas with the simple push of a button. Yards of dramatic brightwork have been professionally re-chromed and carefully polished by the pros at Advanced Custom Chrome and the aces at Perfection Metal Polishing. And today, this drop-top spends most of its time as a rolling testament to boundless Motor City mojo and timeless American optimism!
LONG RAM
All that classy metal moves thanks to an era-correct Golden Commando V8 that clocks in at a magical 383 cubic inches. And naturally, given the car's careful restoration, the mill appears to wear a roster of correct and original pieces, from its gold air cleaners and rebuilt Carter carburetors all the way to its copper radiator and tagged Red Cap Battery. Fire is provided by a dual-point distributor, which sequences sparks between a rebuilt generator and 7mm Hi-Temp Radio Suppression Cables. Combustion comes courtesy of a hydraulic, flat-tappet cam, which breathes through a Long Cross-Ram Intake and restored exhaust manifolds. Aesthetically, the engine's clean Red skin contrasts well against a Satin Black firewall and Satin Black fenders. And little details like stainless lines, vivid decals and gold valve covers round out a corsage of natural appeal.
BODY-OFF, NUT-AND-BOLT RESTORATION
Debuting Chrysler's new unibody platform, the 1960 Fury was “built a new solid way to give you solid satisfaction”. That line wasn't just hype, either, as many automotive periodicals confirmed the Fury was a better drive than competitors from both Ford and Chevrolet. Today, this big boulevard king sits on a freshly detailed chassis that still veils pothole-shattering solidity in a silky smooth ride. Behind the Golden Commando, an era-correct A488 TorqueFlite sends power to a correct, open differential. That rebuilt driveline spins in a factory-spec undercarriage that was fully rebuilt during the car's detailed restoration. At the corners of that chassis, heavy duty drum brakes ensure solid, fade-free stops. Factory power steering makes easy work of hard turns. Factory-style, true-dual exhaust crawls around niceties like a fresh fuel system and a rebuilt starter. And all that road-worthy hardware rides on painted steelies, which spin full discs inside 7.50-14 Universal whitewalls.
AERO MAGNIFICENCE
Take a look inside this Plymouth and you'll find a fashionable Black and Silver interior that sports enough room to haul the whole family in comfort! Wide bench seats prop French-stitched vinyl under fresh centerpieces. In front of those thrones, a retro chic dash hangs factory heat and pushbutton transmission controls between a restored AM radio and stylish telemetry that was professionally rebuilt by Greenville, South Carolina's D&M Restoration. That dash and seat combo is framed by rich carpet, textured door panels, custom sill plates and polished pillar covers. The driver twists a correct Aero Steering Wheel that's been restored to the tune of $2,500. And the passengers stash luggage in a carpeted trunk that's finished with an old school spare tire.
This choice Plymouth is a super cool cruiser that's easy to imagine as the focal point of a cross-country road trip. With its burly V8, tailored interior and dramatic styling, it represents the pinnacle of American design and manufacturing dominance. If you're looking for a top-notch classic that'll draw a crowd wherever it goes, your search is officially over!
