New Spy Shots Provide Best Look At Upcoming Ford Bronco: Breaking
The highly-anticipated Ford Bronco has been somewhat of an elusive beast. Last year, we caught a very early Bronco chassis mule that Ford engineers cobbled together from various makeshift bits and pieces. Though design wasn’t that the purpose of that prototype in the slightest, that mule looked quite goofy. But now, our spies captured a significantly more advanced prototype undergoing testing, giving us our best look yet at Ford’s upcoming off-roader.
What we see here is a prototype of the four-door version of the 2021 Ford Bronco. Though it’s wearing a lot of heavy camo that prevents us from seeing the actual design in its entirety, the general shape of the design is undeniable, and lines up exactly with various rumors as well as with the Ford Bronco R race vehicle that The Blue Oval showed off last year and raced recently.
Ford Bronco Race Prototype
The model seen here appears to have midsize dimensions and offroad-like proportions, with a very upright shape. The vertically-oriented front end, pillars, and rear end come together in an almost perfect blocky synchrony into the horizontal roof, which is camouflaged with extra padding. Short overhangs in the front and rear are present and accounted for, and play perfectly into the offroad oriented theme of the upcoming Bronco.
The prototype seen here also has a solid amount of ground clearance beneath the black running boards. A spare wheel on the swing gate is complemented by what appear to be production-intent tail lamps.
Much like its chief rival – the Jeep Wrangler, the 2021 Ford Bronco will be available in two- and four-door configurations. The roof and doors are expected to be removable. A Bronco pickup variant is also part of the plan.
Powertrain details are scarce at the moment, but the 2.3L EcoBoost mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission from the Ford Ranger are possible candidates.
The all-new Ford Bronco is expected to be unveiled this spring and go on sale several months thereafter.
