Ford Officially Receives 165K 2021 Bronco Reservations In Three Weeks

By Brett Foote - Aug 13, 2020

Like most internet rumors, the number of reservations Ford has taken for the 2021 Bronco varies greatly. Originally, the word was over 230,000 people had plunked down $100 for their shot at ordering a new Ford Bronco. That number was later revised to 150,000, a fairly large variance no matter how we slice it. But now, Ford has finally confirmed its to-date 2021 Bronco reservations number, and it’s still quite significant.

In the first three weeks since its reveal a month ago today, Ford has taken 165,000 Bronco reservations. That’s still a staggering number, and a clear indication that The Blue Oval has a major hit on its hands. And it’s also a historic figure, according to the automaker.

Ford referred to the customer response to the reveal of the all-new Bronco as “unprecedented in Ford history, with more than 165,000 people placing $100 deposits for orders online in the first three weeks and more than 13 million tuning in on television or watching on social media platforms to catch a glimpse of the highly anticipated new models.”

By the following day, all of the 2,000 limited-run Bronco Sport First Edition models were spoken for. And within hours of becoming available, the Bronco two- and four-door First Edition models were all reserved, which prompted Ford to double production of that model from 3,500 to 7,000 units.

This immense interest drove a ton of traffic to Ford’s site, causing all sorts of technical issues, even with configurators for other, non-Bronco Ford models. On top of that, many seeking Bronco reservations faced technical difficulties selecting their preferred dealer.

As a result, Ford recently informed those folks that they would be able to change their dealer by October 31st, 2020, before order books open up in December. Reservations are still open, but Ford recently admitted that those placing one now may not receive their Bronco until 2022.

Most expected the 2021 Bronco to generate a ton of interest, but it’s safe to say that it has exceeded all expectations so far. Now, it’ll be interesting to see how many people convert those reservations to orders this December.
