Join Us Aug. 17 and Cruise Woodward Avenue from the heart of Detroit

You can’t say you’ve truly cruised Woodward until you’ve cruised Detroit

Aug. 17, 2019 marks 25 years of the Woodward Dream Cruise, the largest one-day celebration of car culture in the world. We can’t wait -- and to mark this milestone, we wanted to do something really special. So we’re kicking off the day with a cruise that starts where Woodward Avenue begins: right in the heart of Detroit.

We’re calling it Cruise Detroit: Woodward 2019 presented by America’s Automotive Trust and Autoweek.

As the name suggests, we’re teaming up with the good folks at America’s Automotive Trust -- organizers of bold events like the Drive Home series of midwinter cross-country hauls -- to make this happen.

Any experienced Dream Cruiser knows that the center of gravity of the event is well north of Detroit; very few drivers venture south of the suburbs during the day. But Detroit is Autoweek’s home, not to mention the locus of so much automotive history.

And, again, it's where M-1 starts. Can you really say you’ve cruised Woodward unless you’ve cruised Detroit?

Cruise Detroit is our way of bringing the Motor City back into the picture while still giving participants time to enjoy the official Dream Cruise happenings farther up M-1.

Here’s what’s going on Aug.17:

Starting at 7 a.m., we’ll gather at Lafayette Garage at 2000 W. Lafayette Boulevard in Detroit (you may recognize this as the new location for our Cars in Corktown gatherings).

At 8 a.m., we’ll depart as a group for the base of Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. Spirit Plaza will be opened to automobile traffic specifically for this event, making it a rare opportunity to cruise the entire length of M-1. We’ll head up Woodward through Detroit, eventually joining up with the Dream Cruise proper north of the city. Our early start means we’ll meet up with the cruise traffic before it gets too heavy.

Participation is free and open to all, and cars new and old are welcome -- we only ask that whatever ride you show up in is special to you. This is a great event for older cars that might not appreciate the gridlock you’ll inevitably find as you get closer to the center of the Dream Cruise; our aim is to keep things moving to make sure cars stay cool.

We encourage you to invite friends, fellow car club members and anyone else who wants to kick off an action-packed day in style. Like the Woodward Dream Cruise, Cruise Detroit is happening rain or shine. Come ready to drive!

If you’re in, please RSVP so we know how many cars to expect.
