Muscle Cars And Hot Rods Descend On The Hills Of North Carolina To Cruise On Its Winding Roads

If you live in a part of the country that has seasons (sorry, California and much of the West), then you know the benefits of a nice fall cruise. The leaves are turning glorious colors, and the temps are dropping down to a nice, comfortable level. This makes it a perfect time to hit the highway and get in some driving time before winter arrives and shuts it all down (which doesn't happen in California, so they have us beat there).

Detroit Speed (DSE) decided that after a summer of canceled events that it would be fun to organize a fall cruise, and being DSE, it came up with a three-hour route with some pretty curvy and fun roads in the mix.

More than 200 cars showed up for DSE's inaugural event, with the first 100 cars getting goodie bags full of great swag. The first 200 cars got T-shirts, which was pretty nice considering there was zero charge to go on the cruise.

The event started at DSE's complex in Mooresville, North Carolina, and wound its way north through the foothills. Stops were made at a local apple orchard, the closed down but very historic North Wilkesboro NASCAR Speedway, an Amish general store, and then back home. The weather was postcard perfect.

To keep from overwhelming the local roads, the cars were broken up into four run groups that left at 30-minute intervals. From what we saw, it all went off without a hitch, and we're already marking our calendars with a reminder for next year. If you couldn't make it, here's a gallery so you can check out some of the rides that showed up to cruise the North Carolina countryside.
