GMC Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX Off-Road Concept Unveiled

By Sam McEachern - Aug 27, 2021

General Motors today unveiled the new GMC Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX Concept, which explores the limits of the capable Canyon AT4 platform through a variety of off-road-focused upgrades.

The GMC Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX Concept, which was presented at the Overland Expo Mountain West 2021 event in Loveland, Colorado this week, was conceived as an overlander’s dream truck, integrating a variety of modifications and upgrades that transform the truck into a capable mobile compound for two. Key upgrades include cast-iron control arms, MultiMatic DSSV Dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, additional underbody protection, a heavy-duty front bumper with a winch, wheel flares with integrated task lamps and off-road rocker panel protectors. The truck also rides on 17-inch AEV Crestone wheels shod in 33-inch BFGoodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires, contributing to its impressive 27.7-degree approach angle and 10-inch ground clearance.

Apart from performance upgrades, this truck also features a rooftop tent, a stainless steel bed cap, a 270-degree retractable awning, jerry cans for gasoline and water, a solar panel, a cooler and kitchenette and a truck bed storage with a drawer system. A unique grille and headlamps, along with distinct AT4 exterior badges, round out the modifications. Power comes from a stock 3.6L LFX V6 engine and GM eight-speed automatic transmission, which send power to all four wheels.

The debut of the Canyon AT4 OVERLANDX Concept comes amid a rapid expansion of GMC’s newly introduced AT4 off-road trim level, which is now available on all of its trucks and crossovers. As GM Authority reported previously, GM is currently working on a capable Canyon AT4-X model, which will integrate many of the components from the Chevy Colorado ZR2, including the MultiMatic DSSV dampers. The GMC Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX Concept, therefore, serves as a precursor to this future Canyon model variant, which we anticipate will debut sometime next year.

“The Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX is the perfect concept vehicle to show how GMC envisions the future of Canyon and how the brand is looking ahead to serve its growing customer base of off-roading and overlanding enthusiasts,” the automaker said in a statement.

GMC fans can see the new Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX Concept at the Overland Expo Mountain West 2021 show, which will be held from August 27th through to the 29th.
