The 8 Best Shows On Netflix For Car Enthusiasts

By RK Motors - Mar 27, 2020

Well it's Friday, a day usually spent eyeing the office clock, eager to get home and get your ride polished and ready for your Saturday morning cruise-ins and local gatherings… but… now you are at home, trying to be responsible and “social distance” yourself. Your ride is polished and ready to go in the garage, but the local PD doesn’t see ripping up the local blacktop as an “essential” activity.

Fret not fellow gearheads! We know the perfect way to scratch that motoring itch while you and your family hunker down and polish off all the snacks you bought for the whole month.

Here is our picks for the best car-centric programming for your Netflix binging pleasure.

A Life of Speed: The Juan Manuel Fangio story – This Netflix profiles the Argentinian driver whose career meshes with that of Formula One racing. The film focuses heavily on the 1950s, when Fangio dominated the European F1 circuit, notching five championships while driving for four different carmakers. It’s a convincing argument that he’s the greatest F1 driver ever while offering a great insight on what it meant to be a racecar driver in the early days.

Formula 1: Drive to Survive - This documentary series follows the drivers, engineers, financiers, and team principals of Formula 1 racing as they struggle to achieve victories on and off the racetrack, complete with harrowing racing footage, seemingly unlimited access, and brutally honest interviews. Even if you aren’t an F1 fan, this will give you a whole new appreciation for the sport.

The 24 Hour War: The true story of Ford vs. Ferrari - Comedian Adam Carolla is a huge car buff and has been putting his talent where his passion is by co-directing documentaries about motorsports with Nate Adams. The 24 Hour War is a deep dive into the true story of Ford and Ferraris bitter rivalry to dominate Le Mans. If you enjoyed Ford vs. Ferrari, you will love this.

Shelby American: The Carroll Shelby Story Another documentary from the team of Carolla and Adams is this documentary film about Shelby's life, from his famous failure as a chicken farmer to his time as a race-car driver to his work on the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe and Ford GT40 race cars and more. Considering Shelny’s impact on the automotive world, every car guy should check this one out.

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee - The idea of the show that is nothing more than two people driving around and getting coffee doesn't sound like entertaining television. However, just as Jerry Seinfeld made a "show about nothing" into an iconic sitcom, he also turned Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee into a truly great talk show. You can drool over the cars while your non-gearhead loved ones laugh listening to insightful stories from some of the biggest names in comedy.

Car Masters: Rust to Riches - Restoring and flipping cars can be a lucrative business for firms that do it. One such company is Gotham Garage, which is at the center of this series. Owner Mark Towle leads a colorful crew, which overhauls an eclectic collection of cars with the goal of trading their way up to a showstopper that can be sold for big bucks. As the title "Car Masters: Rust to Riches" suggests, Towle and his crew are hoping they can use their sweat equity and sheer car genius to turn their rusty wrecks into six-figure paydays.

Hyperdrive - Executive producer Charlize Theron describes "Hyperdrive" as "` American Ninja Warrior' meets `Fast & Furious."' That's her pitch for the Netflix original series that puts elite street racers into supercharged custom cars that allow them to test their limits. The drivers take their cars to one of the biggest automotive obstacle courses ever built, which they try to defeat. Viewers will be on the edge of their seats as they watch the racers try to complete the perilous stunts, but the competitors' backstories will cause you to "bawl your eyes out," according to Theron. If you ever helped your kid make a hot wheels track, this is the real-life version.

Fast and Furious: Spy Racers –. Based on Universal’s multibillion-dollar franchise, Fast & Furious: Spy Racers follows a diverse teenage pack of friends led by Tony Toretto, who ushers his team on the adventure of a lifetime as they are recruited by a secret government agency to infiltrate a notorious racing gang. If you have little speed demons racing around your house, this may be the thing to get them to park it with you on the couch for a bit.
