General Motors has released a series of photos showing off the removable glass roof panels that will appear in the upcoming GMC Hummer EV.

The automaker said the GMC Hummer EV’s “easily removable roof panels,” will provide “a unique open-air experience,” for cabin occupants. The photos indicate there will be a large, rectangular-shaped removable roof panel covering the driver’s and passenger’s seats, along with smaller square-shaped removable roof panels over the rear seats with a support beam separating the two panels in the middle.

GM Authority previously reported on the GMC Hummer EV’s removable roof panels, but this announcement is the first official confirmation we’ve received from GM. As our initial report indicated, the removable roof panels will be stored in the vehicle’s front trunk area.

The GMC Hummer EV will be offered as both an SUV and a pickup truck, with the truck set to receive the ‘SUT’ moniker. We understand the removable roof panels will be offered on both SUV and SUT variants. It’s currently not clear if they will be standard equipment or optional, however.

The GMC Hummer EV will ride on GM’s new BT1 all-electric vehicle platform and will feature a tech-laden interior with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and 15-inch digital infotainment screen. Single, dual and three-motor powertrains will also be on offer, each offering more power and range than the last. The range-topping three motor model will produce upwards of 1,000 horsepower and will be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in three-seconds flat.

While the GMC Hummer EV was originally set to debut on May 20th, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced GM to push the vehicle’s debut back by an indeterminate amount of time. The vehicle will be built at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant in Michigan and will arrive in time for the 2022 model year.
