Most Popular Classic Cars

By RK Motors - Jul 26, 2018

On July 11, ClassicCars.com published two reports that determined the Dodge Charger and Ford Mustang to be the most searched for collector cars in the U.S. The study was conducted in two categories: classic and muscle cars. All of the data was pulled from ClassicCars.com’s consumer history logs coupled with data of over 3 million unique visitors per month and 250,000 searches per day.

The Charger, a car made famous by The Dukes of Hazzard and The Fast and Furious franchises, was the number one searched classic car in 13 U.S. states. The Mustang, made popular by films like Bullit and Gone in 60 Seconds, took second place after being the most popular search in ten states. Rounding out the podium was the Corvette, which was most popular in five states.

When it came to muscle cars (in celebration of July being Muscle Car Month), both the Charger and Mustang were tied for first with popularity in 15 states. The Camaro was third place with 7 states, while the popular cars in three states were the Pontiac Firebird and Chevy Impala.

“Nothing truly personifies American car collector’s pride, passion and freedom like a muscle car,” said Roger Falcione, president and CEO of ClassicCars.com. “They are powerful, beautiful, designed for maximum performance. It makes sense that these cars are searched for so often. When we conducted this study last year, we were surprised by the diversity of the searches state-by-state. This year, we were surprised by the amount of change in just one year. Tastes evolve regionally, but the staples of the performance car market have remained constant, and that is why we believe values continue to be so strong for cars like the Charger and Mustang.”

Brands of classics cars were also ranked in the study. Ford and Chevrolet were tied for first with 16 states, with popular cars being the Corvette, Camaro, Impala, El Camino, Bel Air, Nova, Monte Carlo, Mustang, Fairlane, Custom, Model T, and Bronco.
