Many automotive purists believe restored Corvettes should preserve a specific era in history; and as a result, the word “custom” often becomes a point of contention. Most of the time that's great philosophy, because it doesn't get much better than a showroom fresh Sting Ray which feels like it was tuned by Duntov himself. However, when these cars are customized with a clear vision and distinct purpose, it only serves to enhance their classic design and appeal to enthusiasts who would've never given a factory Vette a second look. After all, how could any red-blooded car guy not love a great mix of timeless virtues and hand-picked modern technology? This stunning C2 roadster is an award winning show car that, thanks to its modern Corvette engine, custom leather interior and fully detailed undercarriage, is worthy of a throne red carpet and a cage of red ropes. Ever find yourself meandering through a massive show drooling over the feature cars and wondering how you could get your hands on one? Here's your chance!

During its professional restoration this Corvette's clean fiberglass body was separated from its chassis and completely massaged to correct all the typical waves and ripples which came standard from GM's St. Louis manufacturing facility. Once that makeover was complete, all the car's extraneous trim was removed including side mirrors, the radio antenna and all emblems. And finally, a smooth coat of Corvette Red basecoat was sealed it in a glossy clearcoat shell and buffed to a killer wet-look shine. The result is one simplistic but striking classic which has just enough detail to seem fresh even as its design ticks ever closer to 50 years old.

The cool thing about a first class pro-classic like this slick C2 roadster is that you're taking an already impressive car, stripping the design down to its purest form and adding cool styling tricks which serve to elevate personality and appeal above all else. And while this car is certainly functional, there was no fussing about its usability or ease of ownership during a build that was executed to honor pure aesthetics. Up front, the traditional body-width stainless grille has been replaced by a billet unit which is flanked by two chrome-detailed parking lights. At the top of the car, a smooth header panel and traditional hood lead the eye to a like-new windshield that's framed by bright stainless trim, cleared by dull stainless wipers and capped by a black fabric top. At the sides of the car, a clean red profile lets the body's lines do the talking by featuring traditional fender louvers, clean rocker trim and classic chrome door handles as its only visual distractions. And out back, a cross flag-branded fuel filler is perfectly centered above a body-matched tag insert, four chrome-trimmed brake lights, two 'razor blade' bumpers and two polished tail pipes.

In the auto enthusiast world, there are few bigger faux pas than a car that promises performance but doesn't deliver. “It looks fast” just doesn't cut it with real car guys, so the old school small block 327 that used to power this Corvette has officially been swapped for a fully detailed GM LT1 V8 that, thanks to 380 horsepower, offers solid, reliable motivation. At the front of the body-matched mill a modern serpentine system, which is equipped with a full roster of polished hardware, spins a polished alternator and a polished AC compressor at the sides of a polished air cleaner. Once air enters that cleaner, it flows through a red throttle body into a factory LT1 intake which is bolted down over completely stock internals. High octane fossils are provided by a GM electronic fuel injection system. Sparks are sequenced through high performance plug wires that are attached to full length looms. Spent gases are whisked away by a slick pair of ceramic coated block hugger headers. And cooling comes courtesy of a heavy duty aluminum radiator that's complete with a chrome overflow tank, red water tubes and a quick-spinning electric puller fan. On the visual end of the spectrum, red injector covers and polished valve covers nicely complement the car's bright exterior paint while covering the less attractive part of GM's block design. The glossy engine compartment has been completely jammed and detailed to match that bright exterior paint. And niceties such as chrome hood hardware, a full assortment of braided hoses and body-matched ancillary components add the kind of flash and detail that starts conversations and wins over fans.

With that combination of power and appeal under this Corvette's hood, it's no surprise the car's glossy red underside has received a host of visual and mechanical upgrades. The straight frame was blasted, sprayed with a thick coat of black basecoat and sealed with a rugged clearcoat shell. Behind the engine, a proven 700R4 automatic sends power through a gloss black driveshaft to a rebuilt GM posi-traction rear end. That rear end rides on a traditional transverse spring suspension which was completely rebuilt during the restoration. The engine rides above a traditional double A-arm front assembly which includes traditional power steering and what appears to be a full set of urethane bushings. Stops are provided by four wheel disc brakes which utilize Delco Moraine calipers to squeeze solid rotors. Spent gases are whisked away by polished, mandrel bent pipes which flow into polished Dynomax mufflers and a factory rear valence. Power meets the pavement through polished Billet Specialties wheels which wear 225/45ZR17 front and 255/45ZR17 rear Kumho Ecsta Supra radials. And everything from this Sting Ray's fresh fuel tank to its super clean radiator support is fully detailed and ready for the turntable.

Pop open this roadster's light red doors and you'll find a completely custom leather interior that takes the simplistic appeal of a traditional C2 cockpit and amps it up about three notches. Front and center is a pair of plush power sports seats that were completely rebuilt during the car's restoration and currently have just the right amount of break-in time to be both comfortable and supportive. At the base of the windshield, a custom leather-wrapped dash hangs a factory looking glove box opposite traditional chrome knobs and a complete set of Dakota Digital gauges. At the sides of the seats, custom leather door panels hang bright vent window cranks in front of flush aluminum handles. At the bottom of the car, a leather-wrapped console props a power door lock button, power window buttons and a snazzy Lokar shifter above rich red carpet that flows all the way from the car's custom door sills to its custom cargo hold. In front of the driver, a polished and color-keyed steering wheel spins around a chrome tilt steering column and a full set of satin foot pedals. And behind the passengers, a cleverly concealed Kenwood CD changer bumps beats through a Rockford Fosgate Punch amplifier and two great sounding Rockford Fosgate speakers.
