Description

When someone walks into our RK Motors Charlotte showroom and asks “What's the most metal I can get for my money”, we usually take them to the Volkswagen section. That's because there simply isn't any car with a better combination of timeless style, cool engineering and big-time affordability than a vintage VeeDub. From a collector's standpoint, they're plentiful, fun, easy to live with classics that enjoy a cult-like following and a positively gigantic support system. And from an enthusiast's standpoint, this high performance '67 model, available for ONLY $33K, is such a killer opportunity that its new owner will probably need a good chiropractor to treat excitement-induced backflips! If you're looking for one of the coolest and most unique classics your money can buy, welcome to the 'people's car'!

Sporting a slick coat of Burnt Candy Tangerine Metallic paint, this fully-sorted and completely road ready Beetle recently benefitted from a high quality frame-off rebuild that likely cost much more than our asking price. And while its body isn't concours perfect, it is very straight and carries a spectacular shine that will look excellent motoring down the road to either a VW show or your favorite local hang-out. The restorers began by stripping the car's solid panels down to bare metal and smoothing and prepping each of their surfaces. Once those surfaces were completely flat, and aligned to better than factory standards, they were evenly coated in a high quality, two-stage urethane and buffed to a mirror-like shine. The result is a very clean, well-aligned bug with a top notch finish and outstanding appearance that'll provide years of worry-free fun!

Being that the Beetle is one of the most popular and longest running brands of all time, you only need a few contacts and a little bit of luck to find almost any replacement part it might need; and accordingly, this bug's body features a ton of factory-correct bolt-ons. At the front of the car, a classic curved bonnet hangs bright chrome trim and a traditional “VW” emblem between a straight chrome bumper, old school horn grilles and sealed beam headlights. Behind that bonnet, an elegant chrome mirror, straight stainless trim and two correct door handles flank authentic Sekurit glass. Below that mirror, traditional bear claw hinges combine with new running boards and small, chrome-trimmed turn signals to remind us of this restored Type 1's true age. And at the back of the car, a sculpted decklid hangs an old school “VOLKSWAGEN” script between painted tail lights, a second chrome bumper, original Volkswagen reverse lamps and a polished exhaust tip.

Powering this groovy '67 Beetle is a 2,332cc Scat four cylinder which mixes just the right amount of bling with over 160 horsepower. According to the car's previous owner, the peppy engine was completely rebuilt in 2009; and it runs beautifully, creating that famous and distinctive VW gait that has become synonymous with all boxer engines. At the sides of the pint-size block, two reusable filter elements, which are cased in two polished air cleaners, funnel wind into two down draft Weber 44 carburetors that are threaded into two polished bases. The resulting air/fuel mixture flows into EMPI heads that ride between Scat lifters and Scat rockers. When those heads flood the cylinders, an MSD coil bounces spark between an MSD ignition box and an MSD points distributor. And when those sparks trigger explosions, a Scat crank utilizes Scat H-beam connecting rods and Mahle pistons to create high power compression. The spry motor's lubrication is provided by a Thin Line oil sump, a Bugpack oil pump, a remote oil filter and an EMPI full-flow oil cooler that's complete with a small electric fan. In front of the block, chrome pulleys spin a fresh V-belt around a polished oil filler tube that's fitted with a polished oil cap. And to the left of that V-belt, a small Auto Meter fuel pressure gauge keeps a close eye on the boxer's vitals. Like the rest of the car, the black and orange engine bay is clean, road ready and nice enough to set up at any show. And with its high quality components, fresh gaskets and low maintenance design, it'll likely putter along forever!

Take a look under this solid VeeDub and you'll find a straight, fully-sorted chassis that's seen plenty of dry roads and years of impeccable maintenance. The car's torsion bar and independent suspensions have been completely rebuilt at some point and feature 2.5 inch drop spindles up front and a two inch narrowed axle beam out back. At the ends of those suspensions, an EMPI four wheel disc brake system is all it takes to bring this welterweight bug to a standstill stop. At the back of the car, power flows from the flat-four engine to a 1,700 pound Stage 1 clutch that turns a 4-speed Rancho Pro Street transaxle, which was completely rebuilt by TRI Transmissions in late 2010. And at the corners of the car, black EMPI Speedwell wheels spin 145R15 Nankangs in front of 205/65R15 Dorals. The bottom of this Beetle is 100% road ready from its new heater channels and oversized sway bar all the way to its new floorpan and aftermarket header. And you can cruise down the strip with the confidence of knowing there aren't any hidden surprises waiting for you just below its surface.

Pop open this coupe's solid closing doors and you'll find a restored vinyl interior that's the perfect spot to spend a summer afternoon cruising! All four passengers, assuming two of them are very short, enjoy firm, pleated seats. In front of those seats, a chrome-trimmed and silver-detailed dash hangs a small shift light, small Auto Meter Carbon Fiber accessory gauges and an Auto Meter Carbon Fiber Monster tach beneath a slick VDO speedometer. At the base of that dash, color-keyed floor mats protect like-new carpet which rides between a “TURBO” branded accelerator pedal, a polished Scat shifter and a cutoff for the car's 12 volt battery. At the sides of that carpet, completely painted window frames contrast well with black vinyl door panels. And above those panels, a tight tan headliner stretches from door to door and window to window. Keeping the driver connected to the road is a snazzy Flat4 GT steering wheel that makes good use of the car's small turning radius. Keeping the good times rolling is a modern CD player that mixes Rockford Fosgate kick speakers with Kenwood Excelon package tray speakers. And keeping the passenger's road trip gear stowed is a fully restored hatch which centers a fifth EMPI Speedwell wheel and a third Nankang tire in front of a surprising amount of cargo space.

The sale of this awesome Type 1 includes a big stack of restoration receipts.

No matter the car, completing a restoration that doubles as a custom build is very expensive. Fortunately, you can walk right into our RK Motors Charlotte showroom and make one man's loss your big gain! If you're looking for a fun and unique classic that's stuffed with charming character and so much more, this fully-sorted Beetle is your ticket.
