Handling one task well is commendable. Handling nearly every challenge offered with skill and relentless confidence? That requires a truly exceptional individual. While finding a person like that can take time, finding a car with the same qualifications is surprisingly simple. Welcome to the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG. Regardless if you're looking for a luxury cruiser, Autobahn destroyer, or just a head-turning convertible to hit the shops in, this SL can do it all without hesitation. Equipped with the Premium 1 package, P30 Performance package and Parktronic parking assist, this well-optioned Mercedes has seen just 4,447 miles worth of roads in its life, leaving it in like-new condition throughout. With a spotless Carfax report, all original books and manuals, and an untouched spare key, it even feels like buying a new car. One major difference – you don't have to pay the original $152,165 price tag. If you've been looking for a car engineered to move the human spirit that doesn't cost your soul, take a closer look at this 2009 Mercedes SL63 AMG.

The SL63's good looks come courtesy of a facelift performed by Mercedes the year before this car was born. The base SL gained a more aggressive demeanor which translated well to its AMG-enhanced siblings. At the front, bi-xenon headlights and large round fog lamps frame the wedge shape front apron for a distinctive front view. Above the grille, a vented AMG-specific hood with a raised center section hints at the added power below. The side profile is dressed with functional vents with AMG badges on the fenders as well as AMG side skirts that aid in giving the car its ground-hugging look. At the top of the car, clean factory glass is sealed in by an impressive retractable top capable of opening and shutting in just 17 seconds. To the rear, angular SL taillights frame a license plate recess which sits above rear bumper with its racy diffuser insert. Two chromed twin tailpipes jut out below as one final reminder this is no ordinary two-seater. As a practically new car, the paintwork remains showroom fresh, backed by the kind of near-perfect panel fitment you would expect from a high-end European car.

It's a well known fact that nearly everything with an AMG badge is a force to be reckoned with. This SL63 backs up that reputation with a naturally aspirated AMG-built 6.3L V8 that produces 518hp and 465lb. ft. of torque. It's an impressive number but not as impressive as the fact that the engine produces 90 percent of its peak torque at just 2000 rpm. The car is equipped with the P30 Performance Package, unlocking 0-60 sprints in the 4.6 second range and a top speed of 186 mph. Lift the hood and you'll find a pristine engine bay which keeps its secrets hidden behind an attractive silver AMG-branded engine cover. With just 4,447 original miles, it's very possible that this engine has never even seen a wrench. Behind the powerplant, a seven-speed transmission exclusive to the SL63 AMG offers four shift modes: Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, and Manual. According to the Mercedes literature, when paddle-shifted in manual mode, the transmission clicks off shifts in just 100 milliseconds. Try that in a three-pedal car!

Underneath the sleek convertible, a technologically advanced chassis works to create a memorable driving experience in all situations by allowing the driver to configure their ideal settings. While electronics have been known to hinder, AMG got these right. The AMG sports suspension is based around Active Body Control, an electronic system which works to eliminate body roll during cornering, accelerating, and braking. At the push of a button, the driver can select a sporty, firm response with reduced roll angles, or go for a comfort-focused setting for maximum comfort on long journeys. Combined with Electronic Stability Control and a torque-sensing limited-slip differential, the car can be dialed in to be as wild or sedate as you need it to be in the moment. Braking is equally impressive thanks to the AMG high-performance braking system that utilizes massive composite disc brakes and six-piston calipers up front with vented discs and four-piston calipers up front. The brakes sit neatly inside of stylish triple-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels exclusive to the SL63 AMG. Bridgestone Potenza rubber connects the chassis to the road.

Open the doors and you'll find a beautifully designed interior wrapped in luxurious materials. Seating for two is supplied by a pair of fully adjustable ventilated bucket seats covered in black leather. Firm and supportive, this is exactly the kind of seat you want beneath you during spirited driving. Between driver and passenger, a sweeping center console topped with carbon fiber offers controls for the retractable hardtop just behind the shifter which houses to race car-like start button. Above the center console, a high-resolution 6.5-inch color display serves as headquarters for the sophisticated stereo, telematics, and telecommunications system. Features include speed-sensitive volume control, a keypad for entering telephone numbers and radio frequencies, an MP3-compatible CD or DVD player as well as a Bluetooth interface that wirelessly links a mobile phone to the hands-free system. From the driver seat, the attractive AMG cluster houses all the usual gauges as well as an integrated shift light, Parktronic parking assist, and Racetimer, which monitors lap times where applicable. An ergonomic three-spoke steering wheel connects driver to the front wheels through a fully adjustable column. Behind the seats, an electronically operated deck lid makes for easy access to the trunk. Even with the top down, there is enough room almost anything a day may require.

As mentioned earlier, the car comes with all its original books and manuals as well as a spare key. The Carfax report is clean, showing a recent trip to the dealership which covered a brake flush, maintenance inspection, and a quick look at the sound system.

AMG are masters of building iron fists in silk gloves and this 2009 Mercedes SL63 AMG is no exception. With more performance than you can use on regular roads but enough luxury that you won't care, it's a car worthy of the word “ultimate”. This 2009 model is arguably more handsome than the current version and, at nearly half the price, it keeps looking better. If you want a car with presence, performance, and prestige, don't miss out on this Mercedes.
