Description

In a hobby that's packed with six-figure museum pieces and awesome, high performance street machines, it's pretty rare to see an era-correct hot rod like this stunning Chevrolet 210. Built as a performance minded mechanic would've modified it in the early 60s, this '57 Chevy is a cool, old school performance car that features a stout 327, a tough 3-speed gearbox and a no-nonsense interior. If you're looking for a vintage hot rod that's every bit as cool and twice as classy as a ground-up custom, this killer tri-five is an amazing car at an incredible price!

Looking both modern and classy, this slick '57 sports coupe is proof that Chevrolet's decision to take a curvaceous fuselage, weld it to a sweeping roofline and decorate it with an ample amount of chrome was an excellent idea. Unlike the exaggerated designs of the late 50s and early 60s, the car's proportions are spot-on, there's appropriate use of trim; and the sharp rear fins that would eventually grow to controversial wings are fully integrated into attractive, planar surfaces. Judging by a quick glance at its profile, this 210 was an extremely solid piece when its high quality frame-off restoration began. But nevertheless its body was stripped to bare metal and virtually perfected in a thorough rebuild that includes a spotless undercarriage and classy two-tone interior. When the metalwork was finished, the car's smooth fuselage was covered in a thick coat of Roman Red paint and buffed to a wet-look shine. And today, it sits as one fantastic head-turner that creates a one car parade wherever it goes!

Subtle is the name of the game with this slick little 210; at least, in comparison to Chevy's other mid-50s offerings. At the front of the car, a heavy, body-width bumper props a clean, stainless grille behind a pristine Chevrolet crest and two clear parking lamps. Above that crest, chrome header ornamentation rides between new hooded headlights and '57 Chevy-exclusive 'spear bullets and spoons'. At the sides of those headlights, classic tri-five stainless, which visually connects the car's front fenders with its rear fins, is flanked by graceful “Chevrolet” scripts and traditional fender louvers. Above those scripts, curvy chrome trim combines with correct chrome mirrors and new stainless wipers to perfectly frame a like-new greenhouse. Opposite those mirrors, peaked stainless caps begin at the top of the car's fins and continue down to '57 Chevy tail lights, a second chrome bumper and bare stainless exhaust tips. And above that bumper, a fourth “Chevrolet” script complements a matching chrome “V” emblem and a traditional chrome tag frame.

While this shoebox is certainly one handsome cruiser, we all know looks aren't everything. Take a peek under its lightweight hood and you'll find a 327 cubic inch, dual quad V8 that was donated by a 1963 Corvette. At the top of that red hot mill, a duo of reliable Carter carburetors, which breathe through traditional, oiled air cleaners, funnel life into a big aluminum intake. At the sides of that intake, stamped and silver-detailed valve covers hang over fully restored exhaust manifolds. Behind those manifolds, a traditional points distributor shoots fire through familiar Radio GM wires. And in front of those wires, a gloss black radiator circulates coolant through reproduction GM hoses and authentic metal squeeze clamps. In addition to its killer powerplant, this 210 offers a correctly detailed engine bay that's complete with stainless fuel lines, a tagged and rebuilt generator, and a reproduction yellow cap battery. And the car's first rate aesthetics, which mix smooth, gloss black framing with a bright, Chevy Orange core, create great texture and excellent contrast.

During its extensive restoration, the car's clean chassis and solid floors were bathed in a familiar combination of GM satin black and red oxide primer. Behind the engine, a stalwart Saginaw 3-speed spins torque through a new driveshaft and fully rebuilt rear end. Holding that road ready powertrain in place is a fresh, fully-sorted suspension which includes traditional control arms up front, correct leaf springs out back and fresh Monroe Gas Matic shocks at all four corners. Vintage turning characteristics are provided by a factory manual steering system. Short, confident stops come courtesy of correct drum brakes. And at the center of the floor, a 2.5 inch, true-dual exhaust system sends spent gases through an H-pipe crossover and deep sounding turbo mufflers. All of the car's brake lines, fasteners and fuel system components appear fresh and free of weathering. And putting the power to the pavement is a sweet set of 15 inch Roman Red steelies that spin pliable 225/70 Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS' around ornate stainless center caps.

Featuring a stunning array of black and silver accents, this tri-five's restoration-fresh interior is one of its most impressive traits. At the center of the car, firm bench seats wear a combination of cloth and vinyl skin that's highlighted by bright chrome hardware. On the doors, tri-tone panels, which almost look custom, hang chrome handles, stainless trim and simple armrests below glossy black toppers. At the floor, fresh Daytona carpet looks as crisp as the day it came out of the box. On the roof, a clean and tight headliner stretches from the car's curved front window to its straight black package tray. At the front of the cockpit, a pristine dash hangs spectacular, bowtie-branded gauges next to an old school radio delete. The driver is connected to the road by a glossy silver steering wheel that spins a full chrome horn ring around a cool “Two Ten” branded centerpiece. And the passengers carry their essentials via a fully restored trunk that anchors a full-size spare tire between a correct jack, a fresh fender decal and new rubber mat.

This glowing Chevy coupe's sale includes a small stack of owner's manuals and warranty books.

If you're bored with the flashy fakes that seem to dominate today's car shows, this 210 was built for you. It wraps serious go power, a do-it-yourself gear grinder and a spectacular color combination in a paint shop-fresh restoration. What's better: there's no way a car like this could be duplicated for anywhere near our asking price. Just imagine heading out in this old school classic on a warm summer evening; the burble of the 327 as your chorus, the smooth open road as your canvas, and nothing between you and miles of happiness!
