Description

When you work somewhere as cool as this place, you start to get a bit jaded. I mean, you still appreciate every car that comes through the doors because you'll always be a gearhead at heart; but after a while you start to lose that staring, 'kid in a candy store' innocence that used to come out at every car show. With its 396 cubic inch, big block V8, this stunning '68 Camaro isn't some crazy, custom pro-touring marvel. Its standard black interior trades outrageous leather liners for simple and subtle vinyl. And its glossy Matador Red body is straight, solid and undeniably classic. In fact, everything on this Chevy is traditional and very familiar, but that's exactly what makes it so special. You see, with this coupe, there are no gimmicks to attract your attention, pretentious aspirations of becoming a modern sports car, or obnoxious luxury cruiser add-ons. It's just a clean, honest to goodness muscle car that's so appealing and so well-done it'll stop you in your tracks. If you're looking for some awesome Detroit metal that can turn heads from here to California, and doesn't have to make excuses for a previous owner's compromised vision, this sweet Camaro is the flavor you been craving!

The beneficiary of a professionally finished, frame-off restoration, this slick, first generation F-Body features an athletic appearance that's highlighted by a breathtaking Tuxedo Black on Matador Red color combination. Take one look down the sides of the car's rock-solid body and you'll find that great care was taken to ensure all seams are both narrow and precise. Step closer to the car's mirror-like paint and check out flat surfaces that are a product of both rust-free, original sheetmetal and high quality replacement panels. Grab the car's well-adjusted hood and feel how smoothly it closes to provide an excellent fit that's set off by a glossy clearcoat shell. Ultimately, it all adds up to one very well done classic that's built to exacting specifications via a great combination of skilled workmanship and first-rate finishing.

When it comes to purity of form, I can't really think of a better looking car than Chevrolet's 60s-era Camaro. It's a solid and straightforward design that continues to age exceptionally well, especially in the company of its extroverted and exaggerated competitors. At the front of this super cool F1, a stainless-trimmed grille hangs clear parking lamps and a familiar silver bowtie between bright halogen headlights, a spotless chrome bumper and a small, Trans Am-style spoiler. At the top of that grille, a traditional cowl induction hood reflects a perfect combination of like-new glass and mirrored stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, the car's mostly monochromatic profile hangs clear marker lamps and flowing “Camaro” scripts around familiar chrome door handles, new stainless rocker trim and a correct chrome mirror. And at the back of those marker lamps, an option D80 decklid spoiler rides above '68 Camaro-exclusive tail lights, a body-matched fuel filler and a second spotless bumper.

When this killer F-Body rolled out of the restoration shop it was equipped with a correct, 396 cubic inch Chevrolet V8. And since many of these cars came from Norwood and Van Nuys already fitted with big block Chevys, that transition was as natural as turning a couple of black Goodyears into a cloud of white smoke. At the top of that fully rebuilt engine, wind whips through a chrome air cleaner into a coated Holley 4-barrel that's bolted between bright stainless fuel lines. The big engine's fires are lit by a modern HEI distributor that makes good use of 8mm High Energy Suppression Cables. Cooling for those fires is provided by a big aluminum radiator that's equipped with fresh GM hoses and conventional screw clamps. And spent gases from the engine's combustion are whisked through a slick pair of cast and fully restored exhaust manifolds. Aesthetically, this Camaro's satin black fenders look great against its Chevy Orange powerplant. And details such as chrome valve covers, a rebuilt brake booster, a chrome dipstick and a reproduction Delco battery are as handsome as they are functional.

Underneath this tire shredding pony car you'll find a fully restored chassis that's ready for either the strip or the turntable. Behind the buff engine, a correct Muncie M20 turns a familiar GM 12-bolt that's equipped with an attractive chrome inspection cover. At the front of that drivetrain, a completely factory suspension saw the addition of modern power steering. And at the corners of that suspension, power front disc and rear drum brakes provide cool and confident stops. Charred dinosaurs float from the aforementioned manifolds into a 2.5-inch, true-dual exhaust system that's complete with aggressive, dual-chamber Flowmasters. Power flows to the pavement through razor-sharp American Racing Torq Thrust IIs, which spin 215/55R17 Mastercraft Touring LSRs around polished spokes. And the car's fresh, satin black floors, which have been restored to better-than-new condition, feature a full array of finishing components that include a new stainless fuel tank, new stainless fluid lines and spotless stainless hardware.

Open this awesome F1's doors and you'll find a completely restored vinyl interior that conveys a very clean and decidedly vintage appearance. At the center of the car, a black-trimmed bucket and bench seat combination is in fantastic shape. At the front of the car, a good looking dash hangs beautifully restored telemetry next to a correct Delco radio and small Sunpro accessory gauges. At the bottom of the car, a chrome Hurst shifter hovers over like-new carpet that's protected by tough rubber floor mats. And at the top of the car, a tight black headliner retains all of its color and pliability. In front of the driver, a subtle, satin black steering wheel spins around a bright “camaro” horn button. At the sides of the passengers, standard door panels are decorated with excellent stainless trim and fresh GM armrests. And behind the cockpit, a thoroughly restored trunk is spattered, solid and ready to load.

The sale of this pristine panther includes a few restoration photos and a stack of restoration receipts.

This spectacular Camaro embodies old school Detroit vigor at its very finest, combining stunning design with simple execution and no-excuses, no-limits performance. Distinctive, comfortable and professionally built, the car is simply spectacular on the road. And if you're looking for something a little different than an everyman's show queen, it represents a fantastic opportunity. Don't miss your chance to get behind the wheel of an all-American bowtie!
