Frame Up Restored Windward Blue Firebird 400 V8 4 Speed
While 1969 Camaros get a lot of attention, they certainly weren't the only game in town. Their Pontiac-badged cousin had more cubes and more curves, lending them a lasting appeal that resonates in today's collector market. This fully restored 1969 Firebird is a great example of what makes these cars so great. With 400 power, 4 gears, and a killer color combination, it doesn't get much better.
While this Firebird was born with good looks, its current condition comes courtesy of a complete restoration performed by Casey's Classics in Harrodsburg, KY. The color is considered Windward Blue, though it's a much deeper color than most other Pontiacs that share the paint code. The hue is sprayed over a crisp GM sheet metal topped with show-quality chrome, glass, and stainless.
Power is provided by the original 400ci V8 which has been rebuilt to factory specs. The block is a coveted WZ code with a 9790071 casting number and matching VIN derivative. The whole assembly is painted Pontiac Blue and topped with a correct Quadrajet carburetor and “62” heads with chrome valve covers. The engine presents with authenticity and powers desirable accessories such as air conditioning and power steering.
Underneath the F-body, the rock solid floorpans are dressed in black. In the center, a Muncie M20 4-speed makes quick work of gear changes before spinning power back to a factory 10-bolt rear end. At either side, a stainless dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers offers a great tone for the 400. The car's original double A-arm front and leaf spring rear suspension has been completely rebuilt to factory specifications and features correct power steering and a correct front sway bar. The suspension is further aided by power steering and power disc brakes. At the corners, 17-inch American Racing wheels round out the package.
Inside the car, you'll find more great Pontiac styling wrapped in a mixture of black, white, and rich wood grain applique. At ground level, fresh black carpet covers the floor, sealed by crisp Fisher Body door sill plates. The dark shade continues onto the dashboard which offers factory instrumentation as well as controls for the HVAC system. The factory radio is in place, but an aftermarket unit in the glove compartment modernizes the system. A long center console flows down the middle, between clean white bucket seats while a taut white headliner stretches above.
Included in the sale of this impressive Pontiac is PHS documentation that provides insight into the cars origins as well as restoration receipts that offer specifics regard the car's more recent past.
The market for these cars is incredibly strong, as evidenced by how quickly this Firebird sold. Congratulations to the new owner for snagging an impressive Pontiac before the pictures even hit our website. If you're in the market for a first-generation Firebird, stay tuned. There's always something good around the corner!
