Description

As nice as investment grade Chevelles are, it seems EVERYONE either owns one or knows someone who owns one. And as much as we enjoy seeing blue chip show queens come through the doors, it's always great to find a pristine classic that's built to enjoy. Being an avid bowtie fan, you probably know finding a cool Chevelle isn't all that hard. But the chance of scoring a well-done pro-street car for less than six figures is becoming increasingly difficult. Luckily, since the passionate gearheads at RK Motors Charlotte specialize in Chevys of every flavor, we can offer you great opportunities like this awesome 1967 Chevelle Super Sport. Featuring a 600 horsepower big block, a custom suspension, and a classic Marina Blue on Medium Blue color combination, this coupe is one super cool classic that's ready to rock and roll!

Restored over the course of a decade, this nouveau Chevelle Super Sport wears an exceptionally solid body under a cool coat of traditional blue urethane. Naturally, that body was completely disassembled, massaged into an impressively straight canvas and expertly detailed to provide a show worthy appearance that's structured around good panel fitment. Once that fitment was locked in, carefully sprayed layers of basecoat were topped with a thick clearcoat shell, and thoroughly buffed into a smooth, flat shine. And currently, as a piece that's much nicer than any mass-produced survivor from the late 60s, this hardtop displays a super clean finish on top of a high quality restoration that'll last for years!

Despite its custom drivetrain, this Chevy's trim and ornamentation remain just as the General specified. At the front of the car, a black Super Sport grille centers a prominent “SS427” emblem between a new chrome bumper, small parking lamps and bright, halogen headlights. At the top of the car, a “CHEVELLE” branded Super Sport hood combines with straight stainless trim, bright stainless wipers and new chrome drip rails to cage like-new glass. At the sides of the car, red-inlayed fender emblems and quarter-mounted “Super Sport” scripts hint at the true nature of the big block's personality, while traditional door handles and a snazzy bowtie mirror perfectly complement dent-free wheel lips and Super Sport rocker moldings. And at the back of the car, a black Super Sport valence hangs vintage tail lights and a second “SS427” emblem between a frenched antenna, a showroom-fresh bumper and crystal clear reverse lamps.

In the auto enthusiast world, there are few bigger faux pas than a car that promises performance but doesn't deliver. “It looks fast” just doesn't cut it with real car guys, so the old school Chevrolet small block that used to power this Chevelle has been put out to pasture. In its place you'll find a buff 427 that, thanks to JE pistons, a Competition camshaft and a .030 overbore, pushes roughly 600 horsepower to the car's fat rear tires. At the top of that hundred octane monster, coated Edelbrocks utilize a polished air cleaner, braided fuel lines and a high quality Marshall pressure gauge to slide a perfect air/fuel mixture into a big Edelbrock intake. That intake, which is cinched to a chrome thermostat housing and sleeved radiator hoses, rides between custom valve covers and aluminum Brodix heads that are fitted with high quality roller rocker arms. Those rockers make good use of hot fire provided by a modern MSD distributor, which sequences spark between a bright MSD box, a familiar MSD coil and high performance MSD plug wires. Resultant combustion is jettisoned through big, aluminized side-pipes via long-tube Hooker headers. Cooling is provided by a lightweight, aluminum radiator that's anchored to a beefy Edelbrock water pump and two quick-spinning, electric puller fans. And charging comes courtesy of a chrome alternator that, along with a chrome timing chain cover, hangs within an attractive March pulley system. Visually, the handsome engine bay carries the same lightly customized theme as the car's sinuous exterior. Glossy black fenders are perfectly complemented by chrome hood hardware and black, hi temp block paint. And a full array of details, like billet breathers, a polished fuel filter and a top notch Optima gel cell, increase both performance and reliability.

What good would that killer big block be without a great chassis to back it up? Behind the car's thundering 427, a rugged Muncie M21 4-speed sends power to a narrowed and braced 9-inch that spins a limited slip differential around stout, 4.10 gears. That surprisingly streetable drivetrain is held off the ground by a fully rebuilt suspension which mixes modern Wilwood discs and traditional rear drums with factory power steering, retrofitted coil-overs and full wheel tubs. At the center of that back-halved suspension, an aluminized exhaust system makes good use of aggressive Flowmaster mufflers, while the car's big Edelbrock carburetors make good use of an electric fuel pump and a custom, stainless fuel tank. At the corners of the floor, 15-inch American Racing Hoopsters twist 215/70 Hankook H714s in front of 31x18.5 Mickey Thompson Sportsmans. And naturally, everything from this Chevy's heavy duty scatter shield and prerequisite driveshaft hoop to its modern mini starter is tough, tested and ready to go!

During its restoration, this Chevelle was equipped with a great looking Medium Blue interior that presents well and shows minimal wear. At the center of the car, front bucket and rear bench seats are in great shape, displaying no cracks or annoying rips. In front of those seats, a warp-free dash supplements bright chrome trim with an Auto Meter Autogage tachometer and direct-fit, Panasonic tape deck. Below that dash, a correct blue console groups an attractive trio of Auto Meter Pro Comp gauges in front of a traditional Hurst shifter. At the base of that console, clean blue carpet stretches between dent-free, Fisher sills. Above those sills, horizontally-pleated door panels hang correct blue armrests between bright chrome handles and pristine stainless trim. In front of the driver, an attractive Grant GT steering wheel spins a thick black rim around bright chrome spokes. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features plenty of room for a weekend's worth of luggage.

With its stunning motor, incredible body and comfortable interior, this Chevy is one exceptionally fun muscle car. And best of all, it's a unique first generation GM A-body that isn't nearly as prevalent as the more famous, and too often duplicated, second generation SS454. If you're in the market for a no excuses pavement pounder with an unbeatable combination of style and performance, this '67 Super Sport is your kind of car!
