Frame Off Restored Mustang Convertible 289 V8 3 Speed
Earlier this year AutoScout24 named Ford's legendary Mustang the most wanted classic in Europe. Of course, that wasn't a big surprise to folks on this side of the pond, given the car's cult-like following. This coveted Mustang wraps a tweaked Ford 289 and beefy C4 3-speed in a pristine, frame-off restoration. And, in typical blue oval fashion, it's fully sorted and ready to cruise with some of the coolest hardware on the street!
Wearing a glossy coat of correct Red paint, this Ford's current, show worthy condition is the product of a professional, rotisserie restoration that was completed in the fall of 2008. The car's clean, original sheetmetal was stripped, supplemented with fresh fenders, and bathed in a modern two-stage pigment. And naturally, that smooth finish was sanded, polished and buffed to a spectacular, mirror-like shine.
Motivation is provided by a rebuilt small block that, thanks to aluminum heads and a hotter cam, makes killer horsepower. That raucous mill was covered in traditional Ford Blue skin and centered between crisp, Satin Black fenders. And everything from the car's chrome air cleaner to its dent-free oil pan presents a detailed, show worthy appearance.
Behind that oil pan, a heavy duty automatic twists power through a tough, 8-inch rear end to an open differential and friendly 2.80 gears. That world class drivetrain hangs in a fully restored suspension, which benefits from factory power steering and heavy duty brakes. And at the corners of the car, stylish chrome wheels spin 195/75R14 Coker Classic redlines around red Mustang center caps.
Open this drop-top's doors and you'll find nostalgic Detroit styling that's wrapped in traditional Tan vinyl. Restored bench and bucket seats sport freshly pleated covers that, judging by their appearance, enjoyed very little road time. The vintage aura continues onto the dashboard, which offers a pleasant layout of analog gauges. And in front of the driver, a speed drilled steering wheel spins a beefy wood rim around a classy pony insignia.
Not surprisingly, this show worthy Ford happened to catch the eye of a diehard Mustang enthusiast as it rolled into the RKM Performance Center. And, before our marketing team could even raise their studio door, a bill of sale had been drawn up. We'd like to once again thank the car's happy new owner for choosing RK Motors Charlotte for all his octane-fueled needs. Here's to many trophies, many years and many more miles behind the wheel of classic American muscle!
