Description

Watching show stopping customs roll through our RK Motors Charlotte showroom never gets old. But sometimes we get the feeling that the modern street rod movement has become more about show and less about go. After all, hot rod culture started with guys who drove their cars out of necessity, but raced them on dry lakes, dirt tracks and drag strips out of desire. And that desire to continually push the boundaries of both performance and appeal spawned legendary events like Pikes Peak and the Mexican Road Race. Inspired by a Thom Taylor drawing, and built as a pro-touring mix of streetability and performance, this razor-sharp Ford is a direct result of what happens when $80K in top notch parts meets five years of specialized labor. And if you're a discerning rodder who's looking for a car with a little more substance than chrome and bright paint, it's your one-way ticket to bigger and better things!

Built from the ground up, this awesome coupe's smooth and solid fuselage began life as aviation grade fiberglass that Redneck Street Rods custom structured into a chopped and channeled Coupe race rod. Once that body completely cured, it was sprinkled with stainless hardware and coated in flexible, Redneck-exclusive Valspar. That straight and fully prepped shell was then shipped to Huselton Automobile Company for a show-worthy coat of PPG Concept Black two-stage. Once that glossy pigment was buffed, a full array of decals reinforced the car's vintage racer motif. And today, with nary a ripple or misaligned panel anywhere, this positively evil coupe mixes enough utility to hush old school skeptics with enough polish to be front row at the car show!

Using Thom Taylor's design as a template, this Ford's owner made sure all of its intricacies were well thought and exceptionally executed. At the front of the car, a custom Alumicraft grille shell centers a custom Alumicraft grille between a polished splitter, two halogen fog lamps and custom-lit Harley-Davidson V-Rod headlights. Behind that grille, a fixed hood leads the eye to smoked glass that's sealed between a modern Mustang hood scoop, a polished, Monza-style fuel filler and checkered, bullet-style mirrors. At the sides of that hood, shaved suicide doors hang between a faux battery shut off and a large, faux exhaust outlet. And at the back of the car, a shaved trunk rides above bright Lambert LED tail lights and a folding, switch-activated tag bracket.

Great looks are only one part of this slick coupe's broad appeal; it also does a very good job of going fast! Remove the car's tailored hood and you'll find a brand new Ford Racing 302 that's been dyno-tuned to an incredible 345 horsepower. At the top of that sturdy iron block, a polished air cleaner funnels wind into a coated Edelbrock carburetor and sturdy Edelbrock intake. Below that carburetor, aluminum GT-40 heads seat Ford Racing roller rockers under attractive Roush valve covers and a small K&N breather. Below those heads, a hydraulic cam, forged pistons, forged steel connecting rods and a forged steel crank transform 9 to 1 compression into a beautiful small block symphony that's roared through short, ceramic coated headers. At the front of that cam, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences spark between Painless wiring, an MSD 6AL ignition, an MSD Blaster 2 coil and 9mm Roush plug wires. Charge comes courtesy of an attractive Billet Specialties Tru Trac system, which spins a chrome Powermaster alternator next to a chrome Vintage Air compressor. And cooling is provided by a 2-core Griffin radiator that's fitted with a big electric puller fan. As with any expertly built custom, the car's engine bay is fully sorted and ready to go. And the sweet small block looks right at home between a fully finished hood and glossy American Stamping frame rails.

With its exceptionally high power to weight ratio, completely modern components and custom dropped chassis, this Ford is an absolute blast to drive! Behind the hot small block, a fresh Performance Automatic AOD twists torque through a 2,400 RPM stall converter and fresh Denny's driveshaft. At the end of that driveshaft, a rugged Ford 9-inch spins a new limited slip differential around new 3.70 gears. That proven rear end, concealed under a simulated quick change cover, funnels power to a modern, 4-link suspension that's fitted with adjustable coil-over-shocks. That fully sorted 4-bar drives a Total Cost Involved front half that's comprised of tubular control arms, adjustable Aldan coil-overs and manual rack and pinion steering. At the corners of the car, manual Wilwood calipers, six pistons up front and four pistons out back, squeeze large drilled and slotted rotors. On the outside of those rotors, forged and striped BBS wheels wear 245/35ZR18 Goodyear Eagle F1s in front of 275/35ZR19 Goodyear Eagle F1s. Between those tires, the aforementioned headers jettison spent gases through professionally installed pipes and welded Imco mufflers. And everything from this coupe's remote transmission cooler to its modern Edelbrock fuel pump is functional, solid and ready for prime time.

Pop the car's Spal-actuated doors and you'll find a Milano Leather interior that's supple, tasteful and well-executed. At ground level, black carpet weaves a thick cover between Sparco foot pedals, “Ford” branded sill plates, an Alpine Marine Remote and a “Hurst” branded shifter. At the front of that carpet, a small consolette founds a series of accessory switches between a Wilwood proportioning valve and Vintage Air climate controls. Above that consolette, a body-matched dash hangs a full array of Auto Meter Pro Comp Ultra Lite gauges between billet knobs, billet vents and a large memory tach. Seating is provided by plush, leather-wrapped Sparco buckets that are fitted with sturdy Sparco harnesses. Above those seats, a custom headliner centers a small dome lamp behind a much needed LightinSight traffic light lens. In front of the driver, a leather-wrapped Sparco steering wheel spins around a tilting Ididit column. At the sides of the passengers, custom door panels hang billet hardware, small speakers and modern power windows behind bright red frames. And behind the cockpit, a surprisingly large trunk hides a stainless fuel tank behind a modern battery and functional battery cutoff.

The sale of this super cool street rod includes a stack of build receipts, a pile of build manuals, a detailed operating guide and various extra parts.

Very few street rods possess the reliable, well-rounded performance to back up their extravagant style. But you're looking at the rebirth of the race rod, and when your foot hits the floor, that's exactly what you'll get! Tired of all the run-of-the-mill red '32s you see everywhere? Want to go look good AND go fast? Don't miss your chance to land this one-of-a-kind custom!
