Description

The storied Chevelle is one of those timeless designs that looks good no matter how it's built. Stock, modified, race, pro-touring, whatever; the clean lines and balanced stance on these tough classics create a confident swagger that's universally admired. That means, if you're looking to ride in style, you really can't go wrong with a Chevrolet A-Body. And when you factor in this Super Sport's modern drivetrain, tastefully restored interior and first rate, all-American sheetmetal, you get the picturesque profile of an incredible muscle car!

Professionally restored by Power First Restoration right here in Concord, North Carolina, this spotless drop-top was disassembled all the way down to its nuts and bolts. Under the car's aged single-stage, an incredibly straight fuselage featured solid panels that, with the exception of their current massage, had led a quiet, drama-free existence. By the end of that massage, those panels featured better-than-factory alignment and, when opened and closed, sounded firm and functioned exceptionally well. That functional body's Kansas-flat surfaces were then layered in a dynamic coat of DuPont ChromaSystem two-stage. And today, this Mist Blue Chevy is one fantastic looking hot rod that parks just as well as it plays!

For 1965, the top-of-the-line Malibu SS utilized a classy appearance and unique trim pieces to distinguish itself from Chevrolet's working class 300 and mid-level Malibu offerings. At the front of this clean convertible, four halogen headlights and a black-trimmed grille center a small Chevrolet crest between fresh “CHEVROLET” header letters, a bright chrome bumper and clean, amber parking lamps. At the sides of the car, cross-flag “350” emblems and small “Malibu SS” scripts hint at an upscale personality while traditional door handles and bowtie-branded mirrors perfectly complement straight wheel frames and textured rocker guards. At the top of the car, a finned hood leads the eye to like-new glass that's traced in fresh stainless, cleared by 6-speed wipers and sealed under a striking Sewfine roof. And at the back of the car, a stainless-trimmed valence hangs new tail lights, a third “Malibu SS” script and a second set of “CHEVROLET” header letters between a power antenna, a second chrome bumper and clear reverse lamps.

This sweet looking Chevy is powered by a show-detailed LT1 that, with roughly 275 horsepower, offers solid, reliable motivation. Built to tear up the street and wow show goers alike, this fully-sorted package combines a sturdy iron block with lightweight aluminum heads, reverse-flow cooling and a Jims Performance harness to create razor-sharp throttle response and a torque band that's as wide as Texas. At the front of the Chevy Orange mill, an F4 Camaro accessory drive spins a chrome alternator and Vintage Air AC compressor at the sides of a Chevrolet-branded cleaner and familiar K&N filter. Once air enters that filter, it flows through a GM throttle body to a factory LT1 intake that's bolted down over completely stock internals. High octane fossils are provided by GM electronic fuel injection. Sparks are sequenced via beefy MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Spent gases swirl through slick, Jet-Hot coated Hedmans. And cooling comes courtesy of a modern aluminum radiator that's fitted with pliable hoses, thermostatically-controlled puller fans and a custom, body-matched cowl panel. On the visual end of the spectrum, billet valve covers and polished breathers perfectly complement a custom rail cover and fully chromed brake booster. The glossy engine compartment, which includes a custom firewall, has been completely finished to match the car's sublime, Mist Blue exterior. And niceties such as a chromed steering rod, braided brake lines and a billet dipstick add the kind of flashy detail that'll push enthusiasts right over the edge!

Throw this Chevelle on a lift and you'll find rust-free floorpans that hang a seamless layer of DuPont ChromaSystem paint above a blasted and E-coated chassis. That chassis rolls on a traditional double A-arm front and 4-link rear suspension, which mixes large-diameter sway bars and 1.5-inch lowering springs with boxed links, urethane bushings and custom HPM control arms. Behind the stout small block, a 4L60E 4-speed twists torque to a familiar GM 10-bolt that's equipped with a Powertrax locker and fun, 3.55 gears. Confident stops and efficient turns are the product of four modern discs and a power-assisted Detroit Speed steering box. Exhaust rumbles through big, stainless tubes to an X-shaped crossover and polished Magnaflow mufflers. Power flows through stylish Boyd Coddington Smoothie IIs, which spin 225/50R17 Nitto NT450 Extreme Performance radials. And all of the car's lines, hoses, brackets and fasteners, which were completely replaced at the time of restoration, display very little weathering.

Tap this A-Body's remote keyless entry and you'll find a stunning, two-tone interior that's comfortable and exceptionally classy. In the middle of that interior, thick bucket and bench seats are in excellent shape and show little to no signs of wear. In front of those seats, a glossy, Mist Blue dash wraps white-face Auto Meter gauges in gorgeous chrome trim. At the base of that dash, like-new carpet centers thick rubber floor mats on a '65 Impala SS console, which is complete with a control panel for the car's trunk-mounted CD player. At the sides of that carpet, two-tone door panels hang bright handles and pliable armrests between pristine stainless trim, dent-free Fisher sills and Electric-Life power windows. In front of the driver, a wrapped and speed-drilled steering wheel spins a red, white and blue horn button around modern cruise control and a tilting Flaming River column. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk hides a fresh mat and the aforementioned head unit beneath a tight convertible cowl.

The sale of this chic convertible includes component manuals and a CD of restoration photos.

Fully restored and professionally sorted, this top-of-the-line Chevelle is a first rate classic that's ready for years of shows and miles of cruising. With an incredible motor, lust-worthy body and super cool interior, it's the kind of car that can be enjoyed for generations. If you're in the market for some top notch muscle that'll win trophies and literally own the street, this Chevy is your ticket!
