Description

There's a reason why so many pro-touring builds start with a '69 Camaro as a canvas. The Camaro is a great choice because it already has a sporty look, and if you can find a straight body you can concentrate your time on packing in great suspension, upgraded interior, and a reliable power plant. Which funny enough, is exactly what the builders of this 1969 Pro touring Camaro did.

It's easy to understand the appeal of a pro-touring build when you think about it. You get a modern suspension and the reliability of a modern power plant, with legendary looks that are lost on the production cars of today. This black '69 Camaro convertible captures all the key points of the best pro-touring builds. Under the hood you have a very reliable LS1 powering the Camaro, a modern suspension that uses the factory sub frame and a killer look with either the top up or down.

The look starts with a laser straight '69 Camaro body that has been fitted with the RS/SS trim. The entire body has been shot with a gorgeous glossy black that shines under our showroom lights. The black is complemented quite nicely by a black interior and a black cloth top. At the front of the body, SS badging sits in the center of the grille and is flanked by the headlights on either side. Below the grille are the chrome front bumper, two lights, and the front valence. Just below the start of the hood is a chrome 'Camaro by Chevrolet' emblem that is bordered by 350 badging on the front of the fenders. A moderate hood scoop was added and gives the front end a fantastic look. The body lines are perfect down the sides of the car, and the chrome Camaro SS emblems, chrome door handles and chrome mirrors glisten against the black paint scheme. At the back of the car you'll find the small rear spoiler above the rear bumper. Between the two thin rear taillights is more SS badging just above the chrome rear bumper. Finishing off the incredible look is the chrome tips for the exhaust that exit just below the rear bumper.

Powering the '69 Camaro is an LS1 5.7 liter V8. The LS1 has proven itself over the years to be nearly bulletproof and provide reliable horsepower and this one has been dressed up with a custom intake tube that feeds air to a BBK SSI intake. It has also been equipped with custom fuel rail covers, fabricated valve covers, and a fabricated power steering fluid reservoir. Stainless steel braided hoses run throughout the engine compartment and an Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator provides a constant flow of fuel to the engine. Up front is an aluminum, NASCAR spec radiator that is responsible for maintaining engine temps. Also in the engine bay you can see the upgraded upper control arm setup that resembles a NASCAR Cup style front end. The RHE upper control arms allow you to make front camber and caster changes on the fly by adding or removing shims to change the angle of the tire. On the smoothed firewall you'll find the original fender tag that designates this car as a true X-11.

Put the pro touring Camaro on a lift and you'll see how this Camaro has been upgraded to tackle any turn. The front suspension uses the factory sub frame with the upgraded upper control arms and a heavy duty racing style sway bar to provide excellent handling. At the rear of the car, mono leaf rear springs have been upgraded along with lowering blocks and traction bars to keep the rear planted under power. Bolted to the engine is a hydraulic clutch that sends power through a 6-speed manual transmission to the 10-bolt rear axle. Spent gasses travel through the ceramic coated long-tube headers through dual exhausts that exit out below the rear bumper. The upgraded suspension wouldn't mean much unless the Camaro had a decent tire to ride on, so the previous owner wrapped the five-spoke Bonspeed aluminum rims with the Z-rated Nitto 555 rubber.

Pop open the doors and you'll find a completely restored deluxe interior. It starts with the door panels that feature a chrome accent piece and another Camaro emblem above the chrome window handle. The black vinyl bucket seats look like they have never even been used. In front of the driver is a three spoke steering wheel that features a Chevy emblem in the center of it. Beyond the steering column is two custom Autometer gauges that are housed in the stock dash. Between the two front seats is the custom console that features Autometer console gauges. The console is where you'll find the fuel, volt, oil pressure, and water temperature gauges. Above those gauges is the custom Pioneer head unit that controls the front speakers that are mounted in the kick panels. The rear speakers have been mounted behind the rear seats and an MTX amplifier can be found in the trunk. The carpet appears to be brand new and features Camaro floor mats.

Regardless of which side of the pro-touring fence you stand on, its tough to look at a build like this and not instantly fall in love with it. How can you not, it takes an iconic look of the '69 Chevy Camaro and gives it a completely modern build under its shell. The result is a Camaro that is not only ready to win local car shows, but also take home the trophy at any autocross course. Don't miss your chance to own this pro-touring Camaro to your collection.
