Description

With prices of documented collector cars locked in a seemingly endless climb, many enthusiasts are beginning to rethink the old purists adage of 'original is always better'. And smart hobbyists who like actually driving their vintage hardware are beginning to buy slick, fully-sorted weekend cruisers like this 1969 Mustang Fastback. After all, these classics were built to be seen and enjoyed on the open road, not garaged and dusted with an air compressor. And with a fire-breathing 428 that's centered in a thoroughly massaged chassis and one of the most stylish bodies ever created, this slick Mustang will have you smiling and waving all day long! Looking for an awesome road warrior that's as livable as it is lust worthy? With this awesome Fastback, you won't even give the word “original” a second thought!

The beneficiary of a professional, rotisserie restoration, this slick 60s pony features a seamless layer of Ford Cinnamon Pearl basecoat that's highlighted by a glossy clearcoat sheen. Take one look down the sides of the car's rock-solid body and it becomes very obvious that great care was taken to ensure every panel is aligned to better-than-factory standards. Step closer to that body's mirror-like pigment and check out its straight and ripple-free surfaces, which are a product of both clean OEM sheetmetal and high quality replacement panels. Grab the pivotal pieces of that well-adjusted sheetmetal and experience the kind of excellent fit that's right at home reflecting a summertime car show. Then step back to admire one very well-done resto-mod that's built to exacting specifications thanks to a great combination of skilled workmanship and first-rate finishing techniques.

Ford designers made sure every year of the first generation Mustang had plenty of visual sizzle. But it doesn't get much better than this coupe's masterful combination of aggressive accents and well-placed trim. At the front of the car, a shaved grille hangs prominent high beams between traditional low beams, a thin bumper and crystal clear parking lamps. Behind that grille, a stylish Mach 1 hood scoop leads the eye past satin silver wipers to like-new glass and bright stainless trim. At the sides of that scoop, painted sport mirrors, deep-set quarter vents and a polished, Monza-style fuel filler add detail to a carefully shaved profile. And at the back of the car, a concave valence balances a second bumper between familiar Mustang tail lights.

Hoist this Mustang's snug-fitting hood and you'll find a fully detailed, 428 cubic inch Ford V8 that, thanks to 3V Performance of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, creates 406 dyno-proven horsepower! At the top of the clean mill, a reusable, chrome-capped air filter funnels wind into a beefy 750 carburetor that's fitted with polished and braided fuel lines. A resulting air/fuel mixture makes its way from an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake to Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, which hide under a slick pair of polished valve covers. When those heads flood the engine's cylinder banks, an aftermarket distributor sequences fire through beefy Davis LiveWires while spent gases roar through coated, long-tube headers. The brutal engine's cooling is provided by a polished aluminum radiator, which rides between an electric pusher fan and a high quality Edelbrock water pump. And overall, the car's smoothed and body-matched engine bay is exceptionally well done; featuring details like a polished alternator, fresh wiring and Vintage Air climate control.

At the bottom of this Ford a freshly restored undercarriage houses solid, original floors that are bolted to a roster of top notch hardware. Nice enough to show but still fully drivable, this is the perfect compromise for enthusiasts who like to display their car and still enjoy occasional back road jaunts. Behind the snarling 428, a Tremec TKO600 5-speed utilizes a Keisler install kit to engage a modern hydraulic clutch. Opposite that clutch, a Ford 9-inch rear end spins friendly 3.50 gears between Moser 31-spline axles. The car's already competent suspension hangs choice Rod & Custom componentry around power rack and pinion steering. Braking is equally competent with four Rod & Custom discs bringing momentum to a hurried halt. The aforementioned headers dump spent gases into large-diameter, side-exit pipes, which bend around dual-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. There's a sturdy set of welded sub-frame connectors that ensure the engine doesn't outlive its shell. And at the corners of that shell, machined aluminum wheels twist 255/50R17 Nitto NT450 Extreme Performance radials.

Pop the car's shaved doors and you'll find a comfortable black interior that'll make any Mustang fan feel right at home. All the soft parts, from the carpet to the headliner, look new; and the Procar Rally seats, which are equipped with 5-point RJS race harnesses, provide plenty of support for spirited driving. From the captain's chair, a familiar Mustang dash features a full array of Auto Meter Sport Comp gauges. At the center of the cockpit, a modern Clarion head unit hangs over a custom console that's fitted with a proven Hurst shifter. At the sides of the cabin, crack-free door panels hang attractive stainless hardware behind a thick, Shelby-style roll bar. In front of the driver, a classy, wood-rimmed steering wheel provides a steady feel for the road. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk is framed by a stalwart Optima battery and Classic Car Audio deck speakers.

The sale of this slick, pearl pony includes an original build sheet, an original owner's manual, an original warranty card, dyno sheets, restoration receipts, restoration photos and component manuals.

There's simply nothing like keying up a legendary muscle car. The sound… The feeling at idle… The relentless surge of torque as you power through gears… It's very rare to find a well-executed restoration which carries an asking price of roughly half its original build cost, but this Mustang is exactly that. And if you're looking for a highly desirable classic that'll provide years of weekend fun, and rack up more than its fair share of fans in the process, this is your kind of car!
