Description

When you work somewhere as cool as this place, you can start to get a bit jaded. I mean, you still appreciate every car that comes through the doors because you'll always be a gearhead at heart; but after a while you start to lose that staring, 'kid in a candy store' innocence that used to come out at every car show. With a 396 cubic inch, big block V8, this stunning '68 Camaro isn't some crazy, custom pro-touring marvel. Its standard black interior trades outrageous leather liners for simple and subtle vinyl. And its glossy Garnet Red body is straight, solid and undeniably classic. Everything on this Chevy is traditional, and thanks to a complete rotisserie restoration, the parts that have been upgraded make it a fantastic ride. It's just a clean, honest to goodness pony car that's so appealing and so well-done it'll stop you in your tracks. If you're looking for some awesome Detroit metal that can turn heads from here to California, and doesn't have to make excuses for a previous owner's compromised vision, this sweet Camaro is the flavor you have been craving!

The beneficiary of a complete rotisserie restoration this Camaro presents as-new in every way. The restoration brought brand new floor pans, trunk pans, and new quarter panels. If you are looking for a first generation Camaro that you can enjoy, but don't want to join the many legions of car enthusiasts that have chosen a '69 Camaro, then this '68 Camaro RS is the car for you.

Built to be driven and enjoyed, this Camaro has been restored to a very high standard and is ready to be taken out and shown off by its proud new owner. It appears that great care was taken to ensure that all panel gaps were straight and narrow; and the solid and dent free body exhibits correct panel fit with a properly functioning hood, trunk and doors. Originally leaving the factory in a GM code U LeMans Blue with a white convertible top, today it sits covered in a vibrant shade of PPG Viper Red with a black convertible top. At the front of the body, a stainless trimmed '68 Camaro Rally Sport grille is flanked by correctly functioning Rally Sport headlights and features a centered, vertically oriented “RS” emblem. Below that grille, a body width chrome bumper is in good shape and rides above an option D80 SCCA Trans Am style front spoiler. At the sides of the car, great looking stainless rocker trim combines with dent free wheel well trim to complement clear marker lights. Nice looking, chrome GM door handles complement optional stainless door edge guards and contrast body colored, second generation Camaro rear view mirrors that look right at home and add a unique touch. The convertible features traditional, first generation Camaro RS ornamentation which includes a chrome “Camaro by Chevrolet” header panel emblem, chrome “396” emblems at the front of the fenders and “Rally Sport” scripts just behind the front tires. On top of the car, a black vinyl top connects to stainless trim that frames a clear windshield and runs along the side of the car at the tops of the doors. An option D80 decklid spoiler aligns well with the rear fenders and sits above two clear, chrome-trimmed tail lights and a correct, black and chrome Rally Sport fuel cap. Below the tail lights, another chrome bumper sits above correct '68 Camaro Rally Sport reverse lights that are integrated into the car's roll pan.

Under the steel hood, you'll find a built 396 cubic inch big block Chevy filled with parts from all the big names and dressed to kill. Up top there's an Edelbrock Performer 2.0 intake topped by a matching Edelbrock 4-barrel carb, while exhaust duties are handled by a set of Hooker long-tube headers feeding a true dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers. There is a ton of eyeball appeal under here too, ranging from the chrome valve covers, to the polished alternator and A/C compressor, to the fender supports. The engine appears to be wearing a matching coat of red and the entire effect is high-class all the way. It's not over-done, not stock, but somewhere in between that looks like someone actually spent some time thinking about how it should look instead of just pulling out a catalog and ordering parts.

Backing the engine is a Muncie 4-speed transmission, originally from a 1965 Corvette, that sends power to an Eaton posi-traction 10-bolt with 3.73 gears. At the corners you'll find polished 17-inch American Racing Torq-Thrusts all around sporting 235/45/17 front and 255/50/17 rear tires for a performance stance that looks a little old-school. Behind those great-looking wheels are disc brakes at all four corners; original Camaro brakes with cross-drilled rotors up front, and an aftermarket rear wheel disc conversion from Master Power Brakes out back. The stock front suspension has been fully rebuilt and features new shocks and huge anti-sway bars, while the rear suspension has been upgraded with HD multi-leaf rear springs.

The interior is like the rest of the car—an artful blending of stock and aftermarket pieces that enhance and amplify what was already great about the early Camaros. The stock buckets and rear bench have been upholstered in original style, black vinyl. There is fresh, black carpet and new door panels. The dash has been restored, and the original gauges are still in place ahead of the driver. The original HVAC controls have been replaced by those from Vintage Air, the radio is a modern piece that uses original knobs to disguise itself (and a CD changer in the trunk), and a trio of Equus gauges hang ahead of the shifter: temperature, oil pressure and voltage. The Hurst shifter sprouts from the transmission tunnel and has a new boot and bezel to complete the all-new show look. All the weatherstripping in the car has been replaced with high-quality stuff from Steele rubber, so the doors close solidly, the windows seal up tightly, and the top buttons down very well.

The sale of this incredible Camaro includes plenty of restoration photos, restoration receipts, and service records.

If you are in the market for a Camaro you can enjoy, drive to car shows, or simply show off to all of your friends, then this is the Camaro for you. Summer is fast approaching and there is no better way to enjoy it than having the top down in a gorgeous, undeniably classic pony car. Don't miss your chance to add this '68 Convertible Camaro to your collection.
