Description

If you're a car guy, you already know the folks at RKM Performance Center are capable of creating amazing machines. But you probably don't realize the extent to which those machines are built. In what amounts to literally buying a car and sending it directly to RKMPC, you can have a classic that feels just as comfortable, performs just as well and looks twice as nice any showroom new equivalent. And that's exactly what happened with this insane Camaro pro-tourer. Born from vintage appeal and broad aftermarket support, this sinister coupe is a virtual tour de force of proven mechanicals. And with a clean body that's dropped on a custom suspension, fitted with a leather-lined interior and bolted to a hot LS7 small block, it's the kind of killer classic that makes factory-fresh bowties shake in their run-flats. If you're shopping for some fully-sorted muscle that puts a modern twist on an old school favorite, you're looking at your next car!

The beneficiary of a professional, frame-off restoration that was completed just this year, this slick '69 Camaro features a seamless custom appearance that's highlighted by an immaculate coapaint custom-blended Charcoal Steel paint. Take one look down the sides of the car's rock-solid body and it becomes very obvious that great care was taken to ensure every panel is aligned to better-than-new condition. Step closer to that body's mirror-like paint and check out its straight and ripple-free surfaces, which are a product of both clean OEM sheetmetal and high quality replacement panels. Grab the pivotal pieces of that well-adjusted sheetmetal and experience the kind of excellent fit and finish that's right at home reflecting a summertime car show. Then step back to admire one very well-done pro-tourer that's built to exacting specifications thanks to a great combination of skilled workmanship and first-rate finishing.

On the sacred tree of hot rodding, pro-touring foliage, along with its pro-street brethren, often receives the brightest light. That means high end, high profile cars must have exceptional looks to back up their big claims. And nowhere is that dedicated attention to aesthetics more prevalent than this Camaro's top notch detailing. At the front of the car's monochromatic body, a satin black grille hangs slick Marquez halos above a flush-fit bumper, LED parking lamps and a traditional D80 chin spoiler. Above that grille, a two-tone, cowl induction hood leads the eye to brand new glass that's framed in satin black trim, traced by body-matched drip rails and cleared by black Detroit Speed wipers. At the sides of that hood, sculpted fenders combine with a '70 Camaro mirror, black Ring Brothers door handles and body-matched marker lamps to add just the right amount of detail to the car's cool Charcoal profile. And at the back of those fenders, flush-fit Marquez taillights illuminate a black decklid spoiler, a color-keyed Chevrolet emblem, a second flush-fit bumper and fresh stainless exhaust tips.

That slick combination of blue-tint pigment and high class trim certainly is pretty, but now it's time to get serious. Cranking out 513 rear wheel horsepower, the lightweight, high performance LS7 rumbling beneath this car's hood is a technological testament to the old rule: more cubic inches equals more horsepower! Derived from GM's very successful Corvette racing program, the brutal mill utilizes forged main bearings, a forged steel crank, titanium connecting rods, a high lift cam and flat-top, aluminum pistons to flat out whip pretty much anything with four wheels. A perfect amount of air and fuel is supplied by a stock GM throttle body that's been cinched to a polished air tube and a Spectre reusable filter element. That air and fuel mixes in a factory LS7 intake and progresses to CNC-ported cylinder heads that are fitted with a combination of titanium intake valves and sodium-filled exhaust valves. Immediately following combustion, spent gases roar through 2.5 inch stainless pipes via Kooks long-tube headers. And a big Be Cool radiator, quick-spinning Spal puller fans, new AC Delco plug wires and a polished Vintage Air Front Runner system ensure rocket-like acceleration. The modern small block rides in a satin black bay that displays OEM-level attentiveness to both engineering and assembly. And details like a clean radiator shroud, carbon fiber fuel rail covers and Ring Brothers hood supports dress up GM's traditionally conservative aesthetics.

Take a gander under this wicked F-Body and you'll find a fully detailed chassis that mixes new age technology with old school durability. Rock-solid floorpans wear a smooth coat of Charcoal paint that, save for the clearcoat, is every bit as well-finished as the car's first rate exterior. At the center of those floors, a fresh Tremec T56 6-speed utilizes a Ring Brothers clutch reservoir to spin a Moser 9 rear end that's fitted with high quality Moser axles and slick 3.31 gears. That drivetrain hangs in a complete Detroit Speed suspension which makes excellent use of a full set of tubular control arms, a beefy Panhard bar and a full set of Koni coli-over-shocks. That world-class suspension rides inside a proven Baer brake system that utilizes a Detroit Speed brake booster and Baer proportioning valve to squeeze 14 inch drilled and slotted rotors. Those brakes cling to a modern power steering system that ensures the car turns as well as it accelerates. Exhaust flows from the aforementioned Kooks headers into custom, true-dual pipes that breathe through an H-shaped crossover and polished SLP mufflers. And torque melts the pavement thanks to painted Rushforth Night Trains which spin 245/35ZR19 Nitto NTO5s in front of 335/30ZR19 Nitto NTO5s. As you can tell by our pictures, not a detail was missed on this Camaro's fully-sorted undercarriage. And the car runs and sounds every bit as good as it looks: ready to seek and destroy.

Behind this Camaro's solid-closing doors you'll find a supple Upholstery Unlimited interior that wraps firm leather seats in a nice blend of contemporary style and modern convenience. At the front of the car, a custom, leather-topped dash hangs a slick set of Stewart Warner Maximum Performance gauges above modern pushbutton start, a new Sony CD player and controls for a traditional Vintage Air climate system. Below that dash, a custom center console, which is loosely based on GM's factory-correct piece, props a sculpted Hurst shifter between illuminated window switches and bright LED courtesy lamps. Below that console, high quality carpet rides between Marquez jamb vents, custom aluminum sill plates and thick, color-keyed floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, custom leather panels twist small chrome handles in front of integrated LED accent lights. Above those panels, a custom suede headliner anchors a glossy rearview mirror between suede sun visors and suede sail panels. In front of the driver, a snazzy Billet Specialties wheel tilts a flat-bottom rim around a subdued Flaming River steering column. And behind the passengers, a fully finished trunk hangs big Sony Xplods over billet Marquez hinges and an Optima gel cell battery.

Sometimes the best cars are the ones that speak softly. No blower sticking through the hood, no stall-inducing idle and no wild graphics. Just a clean, solid, well-constructed classic that was purpose-built to look great and kick asphalt. With its timeless style, excellent performance and modern comfort, this slick Camaro pro-tourer is an absolute blast to drive and instantly admired wherever it goes. Don't miss this chance to own a powerful, well-sorted performer that's as cool today as it was 44 years ago!

Now back in our inventory from its recent debut at the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas at the Mobil 1 exhibit, smack in the middle of Hot Rod Alley, the RK Motors' built Camaro was named one of the Top 5 Chevy's at SEMA by TheBlock.com. If you've been to SEMA you know there are plenty of extraordinary builds that are built just for show, and this year was no exception. Our purpose built car, which by the way is very road ready and worthy, was chosen out of hundreds of high-dollar, show only cars to be one of the best Chevy's! Needless to say the press coverage at the event was intense and NASCAR's, Guys & Gears online series and LSXTV featured our car on their websites.

The sale of this sinister Chevy coupe includes an official Dynamometer Test Report.
