Description

It's a great time to be a Mustang fan at RK Motors Charlotte! Over the past few weeks with the celebration of the 50th birthday of Ford's famous pony car, we've seen all types of wild Stangs come through our doors. The most recent addition, this killer 1969 Mustang, might be one of the nicest we've seen in 2014. It's easy to see why we think so with its supercharged 4.6 liter V8, modern black leather interior and slick Sizzling Kona Blue Metallic paint. The amount of detail work that went into its construction is just unbelievable, and there's virtually no piece of its body or drivetrain that hasn't been smoothed, polished, massaged or altered in some way. If you're in the market for classic good looks and spectacular modern performance, there simply isn't a better option!

Originally leaving the factory as a 2-door standard fastback, today it sits as one an extremely custom Mustang. In fact, before receiving its extensive build, the Mustang had very humble beginnings. It left the factory as a 250ci six cylinder and was covered in a pewter metallic paint scheme. Thankfully in the late 2000's it was picked up by Time Machines in Hudson, Florida, and was built specifically to be featured in the Summit Racing Parts and ATECH booths at the 2011 SEMA show. Drawing heavily from a modern muscle car theme, this show quality Stang falls somewhere between pro-tourer and resto-mod. It starts with the body that was covered in a fresh coat of Kona Blue Metallic paint that absolutely sparkles under our showroom lights.

A build that is capable of turning heads at a show like SEMA is all about the details both on the surface and below the surface. Utilizing all the original sheetmetal, this Mustang's incredible look starts at the front of this razor-sharp coupe, where you'll see one-off HID headlamps designed by Sylvania that give the front end a very crisp look. The headlights combine with a thin chrome bumper and ridged front fenders to provide a fierce, aggressive face. The words BOSS and SVT brand the original fenders, while between those fenders, a large scoop protrudes from the hood with a stainless grille, while great looking stainless trim combines with bright chrome drip rails, familiar silver wipers and body-matched racing mirrors to frame like-new glass. Below those mirrors, correct chrome door handles combine with a polished power antenna, dent-free stainless fender trim and small, square marker lights to add detail to the car's sinister mug shot. And above those marker lights, deep-set quarter scoops lead the eye to a concave rear valence which hangs a detailed fuel filler and segmented tail lights above a second chrome bumper, chrome-trimmed reverse lights and subtle dual exhaust tips.

Sure, the incredible look is what captures everyone's attention at first, but if you are lucky enough to fire up the engine you'll hear the true hero of this build. Pop the hood on this wild ride and you'll find a Ford Cobra Terminator 4.6L Kenne Bell supercharged V8 that cranks out approximately 600hp with the help of 11lbs. of boost. At the top of the block, the massive supercharger is fed through a Spectre cold air intake, while on the sides FoMoCo blue covered valve covers are stamped with a chrome Ford Racing emblem. The engine bay has been painted to match the exterior, and you can see where the engine bay and shock towers have been modified to make room for the upgraded engine. In front of the engine is an aluminum radiator that has been equipped with an electric fan to cool the high horsepower mill.

Having an engine that produces that much horsepower is great, but if the rest of the drivetrain isn't capable it's all for not. Thankfully, even though it was built to show this Mustang is still fully drivable, this is the perfect compromise for enthusiasts who like to display their car and still enjoy an occasional back road jaunt. Behind the blown 4.6L, a Tremec TKO 5-speed manual transmission sends power to a 4.11 geared Mustang Cobra 8.8” rear axle. Since the shock towers were eliminated the build team opted for a Martz chassis front subframe with Martz coilovers for front suspension and a Heidts 4-link coilover rear suspension setup. With approximately 600hp, stopping power is extremely important as well. That's why Time Machines opted for Wilwood power disc brakes at all four corners. Spent gases race through large-diameter pipes and travel through Flowmaster mufflers to create an amazing sound that will turn plenty of heads at any car show. All of the chassis' parts are clean and fully painted, lending the restoration a fresh, barely driven appearance. At the corners of the floor, Ben Hermance one off 20” 10-spoke rims have been wrapped in Falken FK452 rubber to grip the road.

Open the doors to this classic and you'll instantly be transported to 2009 thanks to the extensive work that saw a 2009 Mustang GT interior installed in this classic. The custom retrofitted Mustang interior wonderfully blends performance with comfort. From the captain's chair, you'll see the modern Mustang steering wheel that was borrowed from the GT. Beyond the steering wheel Auto Meter gauges display oil pressure, RPM, speed, water, voltage, and fuel levels. Between the two black leather seats you'll see the Hurst controls for the Tremec transmission. Just in front of the shifter is the JVC AM/FM/CD face that sends your favorite music the Sony Xplod speakers and the Polk subwoofer that is in the trunk. The updated black leather might be a bit of a surprise when you first glance in the Stang, but have a seat and instantly any Mustang fan will feel right at home.

There's simply nothing like keying up a legendary muscle car. The sound, the feeling of the idle, and the relentless surge of torque as you power through the gears. It's very rare to find a well-executed restoration which carries an asking price of roughly half its original build cost, but this Mustang is exactly that. And if you're looking for a highly desirable classic that'll provide years of weekend fun, and rack up more than its fair share of fans in the process, this is your kind of car!
