Description

When most customers begin their search for an old school muscle car to drive and enjoy, they usually have three basic criteria. First and foremost they want something that's super cool. Secondly, they want something that's reliable. And last but not least, they want something that doesn't require a second job to finance. Fortunately the gearheads at RK Motors Charlotte pride themselves on specializing in first rate classics of all kinds and they always have cars, like this awesome 1964 Buick Riviera, that are a perfect fit for anyone! With a 425 cubic inch Nailhead V8, a custom tweaked interior and slick Bronze Glow paint, it's certainly some of the coolest metal to ever roll out of Detroit. Thanks to a recent six figure restoration, it can be driven and enjoyed for years without worry. And as a fully sorted, fully detailed classic that's priced at only $45K, it's the bargain of the century! So, if you're in the market for a spectacular cruiser that has tons of character and an unbeatable price, this incredible Riviera is the car for you!

After a thorough frame-off restoration, this super clean Buick made its home in the temperate and appealing climate of Houston, Texas. However, for a muscle car that's used to being driven and seen, the switch to a life of scarce road time, dry storage and plenty of shelter from the hot southern sun is often difficult. Fortunately this sculpted street bruiser's owner knew exactly what it took to help a rarely viewed gem keep its luster, and the mighty Riviera continued its restoration-fresh existence of gleaming paint and better-than-factory sheetmetal. Today, displaying no major imperfections, the car's Bronze Glow fuselage is a collection of arrow-straight panels, narrow gaps and excellent fit and functionality. And its desirability as something that's as rare as it is unique is both fitting and genuine.

Inspired by Bill Mitchell's love of hand-built London coaches, the first generation Riviera had a classy body shell that conveyed a sense of style and sophistication perfectly befitting its exotic name. In fact, not only did this well-done piece extend Buick's decade's old legacy of outstanding design, it also provided the brand's clientele with a new sense of custom-tailored comfort. At the front of this 'personal luxury coupe', a bold stainless grille hangs four modern headlights between streamlined parking lamps and a showroom-fresh bumper. At the top of the car, the first use of Buick's stylized “R” fronts a sculpted hood which flows to like-new glass, bright stainless trim, satin-finish wipers and chrome cowl vents. At the sides of the car, fresh rocker spears combine with fresh wheel moldings to parallel stylish fender louvers, traditional door handles, fresh "Riviera” scripts and awesome Buick mirrors. And at the back of the car, a second chrome bumper hangs clear reverse lamps below “R” branded tail lights and an offset “Riviera” decklid script.

While the exterior of this slick E-Body does an excellent job of upholding Mitchell's world-class visual aesthetics, the engine compartment is where Buick purists REALLY start to take notice. And for good reason too, because the 425 cubic inch, 360 horsepower Super Wildcat V8 that's bolted between the car's freshly detailed fenders is the kind of powerhouse that makes people either put up or shut up. Turn the key and two correct Carter carburetors mix wind from a finned aluminum air cleaner with fuel from a carefully bent fluid line, and shove it in to a dealer-installed intake manifold. Fire for that air/fuel mixture is provided by an MSD Blaster II coil, which shoots sparks through an MSD Pro-Billet distributor and high performance Taylor plug wires that snake around polished, Buick branded valve covers. And spent gases from that air/fuel mixture are jetted through ceramic-coated shorty headers which dump into a great sounding true-dual exhaust system. At the front of the engine, fresh hoses and new belts snake around a chrome alternator and a chrome AC compressor. And details like a smooth chrome breather, a heavy duty radiator and an even coat of Satin Black paint prove someone spent a lot of time and money planning and executing the car's time-tested restoration. It all adds up to one fully-sorted road rocket which is all day reliable and nice enough to grace the front row of the local cruise in. Oh, and did I mention the engine carries a date-correct 1364704 casting number?

During its extensive restoration the bottom of this Riviera was equipped with solid Satin Black floorpans to perfectly complement its fully refinished frame and top notch driveline. At the front of the car, a factory correct double A-arm suspension utilizes factory power steering to provide great handling. At the back of the car, original equipment trailing arms locate a traditional live axle rear end which creates excellent launches. And at all for corners, an adjustable air ride suspension combines with a traditional cruciform frame to provide a modern ride and solid stance. An era-correct version of Buick's Super Turbine 3-speed automatic transmission does an excellent job of managing the 425's massive torque. Braking is provided by Buick's traditional Al-Fin aluminum drums out back, and modern, power-assisted discs up front. Exhaust flows from the aforementioned shorty headers into mandrel-bent, ceramic-coated pipes that are capped with great sounding mufflers. The big engine's power transfers to the ground through polished Billet Specialties wheels which spin 225/50ZR18 front and 255/45ZR18 rear Goodyear Eagle F1 radials. And everything from this Riviera's fresh stainless fuel tank to its body-matched calipers is ready for miles of cruising and years of good times.

Inside this Buick you'll find a tastefully customized interior, installed by Kasper Auto Trim, that's both comfortable and appealing. Supple leather seats, which feature power adjustment for the driver, sit on like-new tan carpet that extends up the car's vertical surfaces to cover both its kick panels and lower door panels. Those door panels, which have also been customized with leather surfaces, hang small polished door handles below smaller polished lock stems. At the front of the car, a color-keyed dash, which shows no signs of sun damage, hangs a quartz clock and fully rebuilt gauges next to a Custom Autosound head unit and flush-fit switches for power passenger and vent windows. In the middle of the car, a wood-trimmed console, standard Riviera fare, stretches past controls for a modern Vintage Air climate system to create a true four place cabin. And at the top of the car, a custom suede headliner stretches from custom leather sun visors to restored factory C-pillars. In front of the driver, a gorgeous wooden steering wheel spins a familiar stylized “R” above a tilt steering column. And behind the passengers, a custom upholstered trunk features matching carpet, full leather panels and a 10 disc Custom Autosound CD changer.

The sale of this top notch Buick includes a vintage dealer brochure, a vintage Owner's Manual, some component manuals, a small graphite print and a 1:18th scale die-cast replica.

In summary, this Riviera is a phenomenal cruiser that, from the ground up, likely couldn't be duplicated for twice our asking price. Its killer V8 will cruise effortlessly at will, and its slick body and first class interior are ready to garner serious stares. You know, it's getting pretty hard to find nice Buick muscle cars these days. And when they're built and priced like this coupe, it's easy to see why!
