Description

For years, it was a rarity to see a '41 Willys without massive drag radials and a blower sticking through the hood. And, while that remains a classic look, the next wave seems to have arrived in the form of super sleek builds like this jaw dropping coupe. Featuring a modern GM drivetrain, immaculate body and paintwork, and an interior that'll make most late model luxury cars feel wholly inadequate, this freshly minted classic is virtually guaranteed to be a trophy winner! If you're in the market for a fully capable street rod that's poised to attract a crowd everywhere it goes, settle in and learn a bit more about this incredible Willys.

BODYWORK/TRIM

This Americar's smooth, fiberglass body was created by the experts at Outlaw Performance in Avonmore, Pennsylvania. For over 25 years Outlaw Performance has been a leading supplier of custom street rod shells, and this spectacular coupe is a testament to just how well they've honed their craft. Purchased as one of their full body packages, the car benefits from a hand-laminated, 1-piece construction technique that combines an embedded Poplar floorpan with a sturdy unitized steel structure. During its detailed, 2014 completion, that shaved resin was fitted with a stainless grille, custom Mini headlamps, a custom 'fresh air' hood, stainless windshield wipers, smoked glass, body-matched mirrors, flush-fit tail lamps and a folding tag bracket. And everything was finished with a glowing coat of Pearl Orange 2-stage that's been buffed and sanded to a spectacular shine.

ENGINE

Breaking with unspoken, big block tradition, this Willys utilizes a smooth-revving GM LS2 crate engine to blur the lines between racing and road tripping. Clocking in at exactly six liters, or 364 cubic inches, that buff small block twists stout 10.9 to 1 compression into an even 400 horsepower and 400 lb./ft. of torque. Naturally, the mill was trimmed with an impressive roster of hardware, including a Street & Performance air cleaner, F.A.S.T. throttle body, coated, long-tube headers, Taylor plug wires, polished, serpentine-driven ancillaries, and an aluminum radiator that's capped with two electric puller fans. And items like a painted intake, chrome valve covers, polished heads, braided hoses and trick dipsticks add a gratuitous amount of eyeball appeal.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Like the car's engine, its painted and chrome-clad 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission was sourced from the GM parts catalog. That transmission powers a Currie 9-inch rear end, which rides inside a custom-fabricated housing. In front of that drivetrain, a Mustang II-style suspension wraps Ridetech air ride components in polished, tubular control arms. Behind that drivetrain, a custom 4-link suspension makes good use of more Ridetech air ride components. The car's custom frame hosts an assortment of top quality finishing hardware, such as a built in driveshaft hoop, a tubular transmission support and Wilwood brake components. Flaming River rack-and-pinion steering provides excellent feedback out on the road. Stops come courtesy of four polished calipers and four drilled and slotted rotors. The aforementioned headers flow into ceramic-coated Flowmaster Hushpower mufflers. And chrome Foose wheels spin 215/35ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As in front of 285/35ZR22 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As.

INTERIOR

Like most ground-up builds, this Willys features a completely custom interior. Unlike many ground-up builds, that interior creates a stylish and functional environment that really enhances the overall quality of the car. That orange-lit cockpit is trimmed in color-keyed floor mats, billet foot pedals, a heavy duty B&M shifter, Haneline gauges and a digital gear selector. Classic Auto air conditioning offers refreshing reprieve from hot summer car shows. A premium Alpine audio system makes good use of quality Ron Francis wiring. In front of the driver, a polished, Willys-branded steering wheel spins around a polished, tilting column. And behind the passengers, an ornate trunk features hidden storage.

OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION AND ACCESSORIES

If you've always liked the Willys shape but wanted a slightly different take, don't miss the chance to bring this classic home.
