BODYWORK/TRIM

ENGINE

If you find a Pontiac with Screamin' Chicken badges, chances are good that something mean lives under the hood. This top-of-the-line F4 validates that chance variable with a venerable 5.7L LT1 V8. Not to be confused with the high-performance LT-1 of the '70s, this version was introduced in 1992 as primary motivation for the C4 Corvette. By 1994, the basic formula of a 2-bolt main block with aluminum heads remained, but the motor had been revised to employ a Mass Airflow Sensor and Sequential Port Fuel Injection. And power was up to 275 horses, which translated to low 14-second quarter mile passes right off the assembly line.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Peer under this drop-top and you'll find a clean chassis that's been preserved via limited road use. Behind the LT1, a requisite 4L60E 4-speed twists torque through highway-friendly, 2.73 gears. Around that drivetrain, a stock suspension follows a double A-arm front half with a 3-link rear end. Power rack-and-pinion steering makes turning a breeze while power-assisted discs bring the car to a quick halt. And everything rolls on body-matched, Trans Am-branded wheels, which spin what appear to be original 245/50ZR16 Goodyear Eagle GS-Cs.

INTERIOR

Inside the car, an upscale Trans Am GT interior is built around bright bucket seats that adjust electronically for the driver and front passenger. A leather-clad steering wheel sports convenient thumb controls for a premium Delco 2001 sound system. The instrument panel is a familiar red Pontiac layout that features a large tachometer and sweeping speedometer. At the floor, a conservative shifter rides in a straight and clean console. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a modern car are present and accounted for including: power windows, power door locks, power mirrors and remote keyless entry that's complete with GM's PASSkey theft deterrent system.
