----------

There are two guaranteed ways to stop traffic with a classic Camaro. You can take the traditional path and buy a highly optioned original car that's fit for a plastic bubble. Or, you can pick up an old road warrior, grab a bunch of vendor catalogs and build the nastiest pro-tourer your money can buy. Take this crouching F1 for example. With its all-aluminum Donovan V8, it'll whip most cars up and down the strip. With its custom Detroit Speed suspension, it makes quick work of twisted backroads. And with its supple leather interior, it features a perfect combination of vintage feel and cutting edge technologically. Forget some stuffy trailer queen that's constantly framed in little red ropes. And forget a me-too modern car that'll depreciate faster than its 5-year payoff. With this magazine-featured bowtie, you can truly have your cake and eat it too!

BODYWORK/TRIM

The product of quality re-engineering that was applied to a fully restored cruiser, this slick, first generation F-Body features an athletic appearance that's ready for prime time. We say “re-engineering” because the car was fully restored when its current owner finally made the long awaited purchase. And “cruiser” because the car was an era-correct road warrior when its incredible rebirth began. You see, the idea was to transform an already competent classic into a world class pro-tourer that featured the incredible performance of a modern Corvette. And today, countless hours and over $150K later, this Chevy rolls as one very enticing pony car that's sure to please ANY red-blooded car enthusiast!

The overall look of this restoration-fresh Camaro is beyond factory perfect. And, thanks to a spectacular combination of Garnet Red pigment and carefully chosen accents, the car pops like a well-tailored Power Suit. Up front, a Hot Rod Black grille hangs modern Diamondback headlights above a shaved, Hot Rod Black bumper, LED Fesler parking lamps and a short, Trans Am-style spoiler. At the top of that grille, a shaved header leads the eye to a cowl induction hood that reflects clear glass, 6-speed Detroit Speed wipers and Hot Rod Black trim. At the sides of that header, a clean profile anchors a Hot Rod Black mirror, Ringbrothers door handles and Hot Rod Black lock cylinders in a sea of glossy 2-stage. And at the back of that profile, Billet Specialties sequential LED taillights illuminate a D80 decklid spoiler, a Hot Rod Black trunk lock and a second shaved, Hot Rod Black bumper.

ENGINE

Lift this F1's glowing hood and you'll find an aluminum, 427 cubic inch Donovan Engineering small block that was built, blueprinted and installed by the pros at Fulton Competition of Spartanburg, South Carolina. The big engine's growl originates when wind whips from a brushed AFCO air cleaner in to a coated Quick Fuel carburetor that's cinched to a small Auto Gage pressure gauge and blackened Earl's fluid lines. The resulting air/fuel mixture makes its way from a glossy Edelbrock intake to ported and polished CFE heads, which are topped with custom, brushed aluminum valve covers. When the juice hits those heads, a hot MSD Pro-Billet distributor sends fire through loomed Taylor plug wires to big cylinders that are combusted via JE pistons, a Callies crank and a custom-profile Competition Engineering camshaft. Cooling for that fire comes courtesy of a beefy Be Cool radiator that's anchored in front of a CSR water neck, Billet Specialties hose clamps and quick-spinning electric puller fans. Fluid for that cooling system is provided by a Stewart water pump that, along with a fresh alternator and AC compressor, spins on high quality Vintage Air FrontRunner components. And spent gases created by that process exit through a slick pair of custom-fitted Lemons long-tube headers. The buff mill is exceptionally impressive, centering its industrial block between color-keyed fenders, a color-keyed cowl and powder-coated Detroit Speed hood hinges. And details like brushed breathers, a Detroit Speed AC block-off and CSR throttle hardware convey the kind of acute build quality that elicits immediate stares.

DRIVETRAIN

Take a look under this tire shredding pony car and you'll find a fully restored chassis that's ready for either the strip or the turntable. Behind the big engine, a tough Tremec TKO600 5-speed spins between a McLeod pressure plate, a Centerforce clutch, a McLeod bellhousing and an Inland Empire driveshaft. That driveshaft spins a custom, Detroit Speed-built 12-bolt that's fitted with 3.73 gears, a posi-traction differential and rugged Moser axles. At the front of that tough driveline, a Detroit Speed sub-frame makes good use of 1-inch drop spindles, custom-tuned coil-overs, a splined sway bar and power rack-and-pinion steering. At the corners of that modern suspension, Baer 6-piston Alcons clamp 14-inch drilled and slotted rotors to provide cool and confident stops. Charred dinosaurs float from the aforementioned headers to 3-inch, mandrel-bent pipes that employ an X-shaped crossover and aggressive Borla mufflers. Power meets the pavement through 18-inch Fikse Profil 5s, which spin 275/35 Michelin Pilot Sports in front of 335/30 Michelin Pilot Sports. And the car's fresh, Satin Black floors, which follow a modified transmission tunnel with Detroit Speed mini tubs, are finished with custom, anodized fluid lines, C6 Corvette steering hardware, Detroit Speed subframe connectors, a custom-mounted Holley fuel pump and a custom Detroit Speed fuel tank.

INTERIOR

Open this Chevy's tight-fitting doors and you'll find a highly customized interior that wraps 21st century style in a nice blend of comfort and convenience. The car's firm seats, Flo-Fit buckets and a custom Detroit Speed bench, have been completely covered in supple leather hides. In front of those surprisingly plush thrones, a billet-trimmed dash hangs Auto Meter Phantom telemetry behind a Detroit Speed instrument panel, Vintage Air climate control and a satellite-capable Alpine head unit. At the base of that dash, a custom, leather-wrapped console frames a small Hurst shifter behind a small audio remote and convenient power outlet. Beneath that LED-lit console, high quality carpet anchors color-keyed floor mats between stainless-trimmed foot pedals and custom, Kicker-equipped kick panels. At the edges of that carpet, custom Chuck Hannah door panels hang Billet Specialties Hot Rod Black handles in front of billet, powder-coated jamb vents. In front of the driver, a “CMMC” branded Billet Specialties steering wheel spins around a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a custom package tray hangs big Kicker speakers over a 500-watt amp, a matching Kicker subwoofer and custom trunk panels.
