It's no secret that the Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo could run with the fastest sports cars of its day. Fans of traditional Detroit muscle might've taken umbrage, and exotic car enthusiasts were probably pretty upset, but the reality of the situation was, and still is, brute power simply isn't the end all, be all of performance. And the real kicker was: Dodge's outsourced pocket rocket was exceptionally nice to drive, mixing speed and efficiency with impressive technology and modern comfort. So what happens when that world-beating technology IS mixed with brute power? You get a sinister MoPar sensation that, thanks to $50K worth of modifications and 506 dyno-proven wheel horsepower, will literally make you smile every time you hit the open road!

BODYWORK/TRIM

By 1992, the Nagoya, Japan-built Stealth had become an established player in America's re-invigorated sports car market. Virtually every gearhead knew if you wanted to look cool, you bought an ES. If you wanted to look cool and go fast, you bought an R/T. And if you wanted to look cool, go fast and kick asphalt, you bought an R/T Twin Turbo. Featuring a host of top-notch performance upgrades, this 1-owner coupe takes the “go fast” and turns it all the way up to “SCARY FAST”! A quick check of the car's undercarriage reveals no evidence of major rust or abuse. A quick check of its VIN certifies its body has never seen any major repairs. A quick check of our pictures confirms its glossy Anaconda Green paint, which, as Chrysler aficionados will recall, was a 1-year only Viper pigment, is both glossy and deep. And a quick reference to other R/T TTs of this vintage highlights a host of subtle mods, including a fiberglass Cianci hood, carbon fiber rocker extensions, shaved rocker lettering and a custom “GTS” valance emblem.

ENGINE

In the early '90s, factory performance wars finally started heating up again. But this time, instead of Chevy, Ford and MoPar duking it out, the battle involved Japan's finest. Sure, the Viper made its debut and the Corvette was still around, but those beasts were in a different league; and the price of admission to that league was pretty steep. So, the Japanese automakers identified a niche for affordable sports cars, and the fight commenced. This Dodge's Mitsubishi-designed, twin-turbo powertrain, serviced and tuned by Ninja Performance of Mount Croghan, South Carolina, benefits from quite a few notable upgrades. Beefier TDO4 19T turbos can, thanks to a Greddy Profec B Spec II Black controller, hit either 12 or 20 psi of boost on the fly. Those turbos are kept in check via DN Performance hard pipes and custom DSM side-mount intercoolers. Air flows through polished Dejon pipes, which terminate in proven K&N filters. An AEM water/methanol injection system helps prevent detonation. And, deeper in the cycle, spry MSD ignition jives with Precision Turbo injectors, which are piped to a high-flow fuel supply via tough AN fittings. High quality ancillaries, like a Turbosmart dual port blow off valve and HKS Twin Power ignition amplifier, round out the all-star modifications. And everything rides between a full array of 3SX mounts, a polished 3SX plenum and mirrored 3SX accent covers.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

An enhanced take on factory specifications, this Stealth utilizes a 3SX Stage 4 Plus clutch to kick a 5-speed R&R transaxle, which engages an 18-spline hardened steel output and fresh, 3-piece driveshaft to command full-time all-wheel drive. That all-wheel drive system, which is fitted with stainless 3SX front and mid transfer cases, provides catapult-like acceleration in any weather; especially when the boost is set to high! The car's factory 4-wheel steering has been disabled in favor of simple power assist. A stainless Tanabe exhaust system makes good use of a stainless 3SX down pipe andRandom Technology high flow catalytic converter. The car's 4-wheel independent suspension, which has been lowered 1.5 inches, features Tien springs, large Saner sway bars, OEM struts and 3SX camber control arms. Stops come courtesy of powder-coated, 4-piston calipers, which squeeze four Power Slot rotors. Torque meets the pavement through a sweet set of SSR GT1s, which spin 265/35R18 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1s around black chrome spokes. And little things, like a 3SX fuel pump and 3SX brake lines, show that someone really sweated the details when it came to making this Stealth functional and road ready.

INTERIOR

The coupe's black and gray cockpit, which presents a cool contrast to its glossy exterior, displays exactly the amount of wear you'd expect of a well kept, 45K-mile classic. The 6-way power driver's seat keeps you as comfortable for quick jaunts as it does for long road trips; and the passenger and rear buckets are clean and pliable. In front of the driver, a dramatic dash, which shows zero defects, is packed full of gauges and instruments that work exactly as they should. Aftermarket A-pillar gauges, automated climate control and a factory Ultimate Sound system mix feedback, comfort and entertainment. Between the aforementioned seats, a crack-free console anchors a NOPI short-throw shifter on clean carpet that's stretched under aluminum 3SX pedal covers and thick, “STEALTH” branded floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, factory door panels, which are typically faded and ballooned from heat, present as good as new. And when you open the car's hatch, you'll find a clean cargo area that's showroom fresh in virtually every way.
