----------

Just as we predicted, 1977-'81 Pontiac Trans Ams have become some the hottest collector cars on the planet! If you grew up in the mid to late '70s, very little of the metal offered by the big three had any appeal, except for the Trans Am. You either had one, your buddy had one, your uncle had one or you wanted one. And now, the generation that loves these cars is starting to move in to the collector car hobby in full force. That means TODAY is the day to grab a correct, low mileage F2 to show and enjoy. And this fully documented Gold Special Edition, a 15,628-mile head turner that was formerly a part of the Milt Robson collection, combines enduring Pontiac performance with all-American style!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Assembled at GM-Norwood, this halcyon Trans Am was sold through Wallace Motor Company of Salisbury, North Carolina. It's glossy Solar Gold glow is the product of a recent cosmetic restoration that was anchored to all-original sheetmetal. Correct Gold Special Edition full outlining stripes trace a Gold Special Edition hood decal to complete the car's transformation from regular 'bird to full-tilt 'Screamin' chicken'. And today, this coupe looks just as good as you'd expect any show worthy F-body to look, featuring classic lines and sizzling aesthetics that are some of the most iconic automotive brandings in history!

ENGINE

Under this coupe's long hood you'll find an original Pontiac V8 that wears a correct “WC” assembly stamp opposite a matching partial VIN and correct 481988XX casting number. Thanks to government mandated emissions standards, performance had almost been legislated out of existence; and that left the Trans Am suffering a bit of an identity crisis. This bird's W72, punching in at an even 400 cubic inches, combined the largest muscle car engine you could buy with Pontiac's proven 6X heads to produce higher compression and provide enough low end grunt to create one of the fastest pony cars on the market. At the top of the mill, a big 4-barrel carburetor rides under a familiar shaker scoop. Below that carb, GM Corporate Blue coats the entire block, excepting cast iron exhaust manifolds and flash-chromed valve covers. The car's clean engine bay and hood are covered in a nice coat of GM Satin Black. And all the hard parts around the motor, from the vintage brake booster to the Delco Air climate control, appear to be factory-spec.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

At the bottom of this solid gold F-body, a clean undercarriage tells a long story of excellent maintenance and carefully chosen road time. The car's original floorpans seat vintage Solar pigment over a straight, Satin Black frame. Behind the motor, an original Borg Warner 4-speed, which hangs a matching partial VIN over a May 24th, 1978 build plate, sends power to a correct 10-bolt rear end. At the ends of the car, a rebuilt WS6 suspension, which includes power steering, thicker sway bars, better shocks and stiffer springs, combines with power front disc and rear drum brakes to provide quick stops and great handling. At the corners of the car, power meets the pavement via familiar Pontiac 'snowflakes', which spin 225/70R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around correct gold paint and 'gold bird' center caps. And there's a fresh true-dual exhaust system that employs an H-shaped crossover, throaty Flowmaster mufflers and polished side-splitter tips.

INTERIOR

Open the car's massive doors and you'll find an NOS Camel Tan interior that's centered in virtual miles of Special Edition trim. Original seats are comfortably firm and, carrying correct velour hides, look like they should be in a much more modern, much more expensive offering. In front of those seats, an engine turned instrument panel hangs crystal clear Rally Gauges above factory climate control and an optional Delco-GM stereo. Beneath that dash, a Camel Tan console anchors a large storage bin behind a chrome Hurst shifter. Below that console, tan carpet, which has been carefully protected by Trans Am-branded floor mats, displays no serious fading or unraveling. At the sides of that carpet, Camel Tan door panels feature pristine stainless trim and bright chrome handles. In front of the driver, a gold Formula steering wheel spins around a correct fixed column. And behind the cockpit, a clean trunk centers a Space Saver spare tire under original decklid decals and a functional courtesy lamp.
