----------

It's a great time to be a Dodge fan! Not only did the 21st century see the return of the brash Charger and top dog Challenger, it also spawned a new generation of MoPar performance dubbed Street & Racing Technology. But even with countless special editions, and Chrysler's varying degrees of Hemi-fueled fury, Dodge owners are pretty much used to the fact that someone else is going to show up with virtually the same wheels. Hey, it's not a bad thing that MoPars are so popular. But, then again, part of the appeal of having a special car is the guarantee of it actually being special. Enter this low-mileage, tastefully modified Challenger. This surly coupe takes all the torque-rich goodness of Dodge's preeminent pavement pounder and throws in tasteful aesthetic tweaks that create one unique head turner. If you're looking to pick up a modern, hassle-free hot rod that's loaded with tons of comfort and convenience, here's your nouveau classic!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Pull this razor-sharp Dodge under the lights and you'll find glossy Tor-Red 2-stage and clean MoPar Strobe Stripes that put a modern twist on the trusted 'solid paint and two war stripes' color scheme. Below that lust worthy canvas, original sheetmetal fits precisely, displaying excellent build quality. A close look down that sheetmetal, which began life at Chrysler's excellent Brampton, Canada manufacturing facility, reveals not so much as a dent or ding anywhere. And overall, this super slick MoPar conveys a substantial sense of style that's extensive and well thought.

Challengers have never been safe havens for the meek. And they're almost morally offensive to folks who like their cars as bland as rice cakes. So, as if to bully critics into submission, Ma MoPar optioned this coupe to just south of audacious using a full array of gnarly accessories. At the front of the car, a simple grille hangs racy “CHALLENGER R/T” lettering between retro headlights, small fog lamps and a Trans Am-style chin spoiler. At the edges of that grille, a slab-sided profile founds color-keyed mirrors between a chrome fuel filler, body-matched door handles and Satin Black rocker panels. At the top of that profile, a flat hood centers a tall MoPar scoop in front of lightly tinted glass. And behind that glass, an angled MoPar spoiler frames a Satin Black valance, body-width taillights and a black-trimmed bumper.

ENGINE

Of course, there's only one question that comes to mind with any Auburn Hills muscle car – Does it have a Hemi? At the heart of this Challenger, a stout, 5.7 liter Hemi V8 utilizes 370 horsepower to transform what's essentially a comfortable touring coupe into a heavyweight stoplight slayer. While not as brutally moody as the 426 Elephant that immediately springs to mind, the Gen III is an award-winning motor that features a great mix of old school power and modern technology. Aesthetically, Chrysler's install is exceptionally clean, presenting well under a stylized shroud. And, best of all, this is a Hemi that'll fire up in any weather, drive thousands of miles before anyone needs to turn its bolts, and probably lay waste to any old school muscle car that's brave enough to pick a fight.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Built around Mercedes' S-Class front suspension and E-Class rear suspension, Chrysler's LX platform was a solid foundation that could easily spawn multiple rear and all-wheel drive applications. And when this Challenger's engineering team chopped a bit of length and rechristened it “LC”, they created the perfect blend of American attitude and European road manners. The brutal Hemi spins six gears through a familiar Tremec TR6060 transmission. That transmission twists an optional anti-spin differential, which is equipped with buff, 3.92 gears. Variable-ratio, speed-assisted power steering ensures you'll want to do more than make traditional NASCAR lefts. Stops come courtesy of vented discs, power-assisted calipers and a standard anti-lock system. The engine breathes through factory pipes, which exit through polished tips. And at the corners of the chassis, stylish chrome blades spin 245/45ZR20 Goodyear Eagle RS-As around Ram-branded center caps.

INTERIOR

Take a look inside this Dodge and you'll find a comfortable and stylish cockpit that's ready for long road trips and plenty of summertime fun. Optional, 2-tone seats, wrapped in tight leather, hold occupants in place like vices. Most of the car's uplevel equipment came factory-standard, including: cruise, AC, power windows, power door locks, power, heated mirrors, heated seats, Remote Keyless Entry and a kickin' stereo system. The carpet, which nicely frames optional foot pedals, is almost like new. And, as a well-maintained enthusiast vehicle, this Challenger's overall aura is that of a clean, well-pampered cruiser.
