BODYWORK/TRIM

The beneficiary of a frame-off, rotisserie restoration that was completed late in 2012, this real-deal Super Sport wears a clean and solid body under correct Tuxedo Black 2-stage. Not surprisingly, the car's trim and ornamentation remain just as the General specified. At the front of its body, a black Super Sport grille centers a prominent “SS396” emblem between a fresh chrome bumper, clear parking lamps and bright T3 headlights. At the top of the car, a chrome-trimmed Super Sport hood combines with straight stainless frames, satin stainless wipers and a power-operated roof to cage like-new glass. At the sides of the car, cross-flag fender emblems and “Super Sport” quarter scripts hint at the true nature of the big block's personality, while traditional door handles and a chrome bowtie mirror perfectly complement dent-free wheel lips and Super Sport rocker moldings. And out back, a black Super Sport valance hangs finned taillights and a second “SS396” emblem above a second chrome bumper and crystal clear reverse lamps.

ENGINE

Lift this Chevy's double-domed hood and you'll find an original, 396 cubic inch big block that's authenticated by a '67-exclusive 3902406 casting number, a correct “EF” suffix stamp and a matching partial VIN. Oxygen and fuel enter the block's combustion chambers through a highly polished air cleaner, new stainless fluid lines and a big Holley carburetor. Below that carb, a sea of brilliant Chevy Orange covers the block from its intake all the way to its stamped oil pan. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor shoots spark through shielded Packard TV R Suppression Cables. Below those cables, bright chrome valve covers reflect professionally restored exhaust manifolds. And at the front of those covers, a Delco-topped battery rides next to a correctly shrouded radiator that's cinched to GM-branded hoses. Aesthetically, this road ready Chevelle's monochromatic exterior perfectly complements a smooth, glossy engine bay that's complete with correct decals and a fully finished hood. And high quality extraneous bits, like a fresh brake booster, a rebuilt GM alternator and a reliable Pierce fuel pump, round out a roster of details.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Under this impressive A-Body you'll find a fully sorted chassis and super solid floorpans that have seen less than 250 miles of sunny day road time. At the center of those floors, a rugged Muncie 4-speed hangs a 1967 (7) Muncie (P) assembled on September (P) 7th (07) of 1966 assembly stamp below a correct 3885010 casting number. That tough transmission twists torque to a rebuilt GM 12-bolt, which spins a correct posi-traction differential around correct 3.08 gears. Holding that stellar drivetrain in place is a glossy F41 Sports Suspension that's capped with correct power steering and correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust flows through large-diameter pipes to an H-shaped crossover and aggressive Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers. At the corners, 14-inch Rallys twist 225/70 BF Goodrich Radial T/A redlines around polished trim rings and Chevrolet-branded center caps. And, in keeping with the 396 up top, much attention has been paid to making sure everything under the car is clean and ready to roll!

INTERIOR

Naturally, this Chevelle's thorough restoration included the installation of a correct Black interior. Firm bucket seats ride between fresh floor mats, an ornate console and a chrome, Corvette-style shifter. A familiar Super Sport dash is augmented by a small tachometer. An old school Motorola Solid State radio is present and accounted for. Date-coded deluxe Fisher seatbelts add a little bit of safety. In front of the driver, a familiar Chevrolet Rally Wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features a correct jack and spare tire.
