Want to know the best thing about the collector car hobby? The fact that there's a car for everyone. Thanks to roughly 100 years of interesting metal, pretty much any enthusiast can find whatever they want when it comes to restoration, investment or simply hitting the open road. Here at RK Motors Charlotte, we enjoy sharing our passion with all types of enthusiasts. But, as you probably know, our specialty is classic American muscle. That's why we continue to feature showstoppers like this sweet Chevelle resto-mod. With big block power, a modern gearbox, an updated suspension and iconic good looks, this Chevy epitomizes the appeal and swagger of old school Detroit iron. Want to spend some quality time wrapped in octane-rich Americana? Here's the scene you've been looking for!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Not far removed from a detailed restoration, this Chevelle wears a timeless coat of glossy black 2-stage that's so smooth it could be described as 'wet-look'. Under that finish, solid body panels align well, forming an impressive profile that's sure to turn heads for years to come. At the front of that profile, a familiar Super Sport grille hangs a small “CHEVELLE” script between a broad bumper and stainless-trimmed T3 headlights. Behind that grille, an appropriately labeled cowl induction hood anchors stainless pins opposite stainless-trimmed glass. Beneath that glass, traditional door handles and subtle “SS502” emblems float between bright wheel frames and a correct chrome mirror. Opposite that mirror, a second broad bumper secures clear taillights at the sides of a clean Super Sport inlay. And all those bolt-ons, when combined with the car's fresh finish and impressive stance, ensure a grand influx of memorable compliments!
ENGINE
Looks aren't the only thing that inspires great memories. Toss this Chevy's hood and you'll find a clean, 502 cubic inch big block that's been built, polished and tweaked to roughly 502 horsepower! A rich mixture of air and fuel is supplied by a familiar Holley 4-barrel, which floats between polished fluid lines, a Mr. Gasket pressure gauge and a finned Edelbrock filter. That carb rides on a lightweight aluminum intake, which is bolted to the Jet Black block via Jet Black heads. Those heads hang snazzy, color-keyed valve covers between a beefy breather and coated Hooker Competition headers. At the back of those headers, a modern HEI distributor sequences spark through loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. In front of those wires, a polished serpentine drive spins a coated Weiand water pump between a polished alternator, a modern AC compressor and modern power steering. And that pump feeds a chrome-capped, 4-core radiator that's parked in front of a giant electric puller fan.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
When the engine jumps to life, it spins torque through a 3,500 RPM stall converter to a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed that was sourced directly from TCI Automotive. That transmission, equipped with a trans brake and manual reverse valve body, twists power to an aluminum driveshaft that's hooked to an Eaton posi-traction differential and big, 3.73 gears. That 12-bolt pushes a factory-spec suspension that's been upgraded with a beefy sway bar, Hotchkis front control arms, QA-1 adjustable coil-overs and boxed rear control arms. The aforementioned power steering makes excellent use of a Saginaw gearbox. Power assisted disc brakes, sourced from a Corvette and Cadillac DTS, employ red calipers to squeeze drilled and slotted rotors. There's a 3-inch exhaust system that growls through a Pypes X-pipe and welded, dual-chamber mufflers. And everything rolls on Boss Motorsports 338s, which lap in 245/45ZR18 Nitto Invos in front of 275/40ZR20 Nitto Invos.
INTERIOR
Inside, things appear mostly traditional with the exception of a few thoughtful upgrades. Era-correct bench and bucket seats feature factory power adjustment for the car's driver. A familiar Super Sport dash complements clean telemetry with Vintage Air climate controls. A modern Kenwood CD player utilizes an 1,800-watt amp to jolt five Infinity speakers and a 12-inch subwoofer. A traditional console frames a traditional shifter. A fresh headliner melts into pick-free door panels, which border fade-free carpet that's protected by color-keyed floor mats. The driver guides a reproduction Chevrolet Rally Wheel. And the passengers stash valuables in a fully carpeted trunk.
