The beneficiary of an extensive, ground-up restoration, this sinister Chevelle Super Sport wraps a numbers-matching big block in correct black on black aesthetics. If you're ready to hit the streets in a stunning muscle car, here's your fully sorted blast from the past!
BODY
Restored to roughly the same state in which it rolled out of GM's Arlington factory, this Chevelle features an arrow-straight body that hides virtually no imperfections. Naturally, the car's fit and finish has benefitted from over 40 years of improved build techniques. It's correct Tuxedo Black 2-stage is super reflective and much nicer than original lacquer. And Antique White stripes and a fresh white top, which replaced an original black top, are tight, right and ready to ride. At the front of the car, a correct Super Sport grille centers a pristine, white-inlayed emblem between familiar T3 headlights. Behind that grille, an optional ZL-2 cowl induction hood is complete with correct stainless pins. And an array of prominent “SS” emblems stands out like skid marks on sun-bleached blacktop.
DRIVETRAIN
In 1971, the biggest and baddest engine you could shove between the fenders of a Chevrolet passenger car was the mighty LS5 454. And, according to the factory, this coupe's original LS5, which hangs a familiar 3963512 casting number behind a correct “CPA” suffix stamp and matching partial VIN, twists 365 horsepower into an impressive 550 lb./ft. of torque! That massive twist flows through a tough Muncie 4-speed on its way to a sturdy 12-bolt axle. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a familiar F41 Special Performance Suspension, which is equipped with factory power steering, heavy-duty sway bars, boxed control arms, and stiffer springs and shocks. That hardware floats between rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brakes. Spent gases exit through high performance, true-dual pipes that are finished with factory replacement mufflers. Power flows through monochromatic Super Sport wheels and fresh, G70-15 Firestone tires. And, aesthetically, this road ready Chevelle's fresh exterior transitions nicely into a Satin Black chassis that perfectly contrasts vivid Chevy Orange block paint.
INTERIOR
Featuring a correct Black interior, this convertible's crisp cockpit is both simple and inviting. Its slick bucket and bench seat combo is firm to the touch and shows no signs of wear at all. In front of those thrones, a straight Super Sport dash hangs deluxe telemetry above a correct radio and factory air conditioning. Below that dash, a stainless-trimmed console anchors a modern Hurst shifter between color-keyed floor mats. In front of the driver, a simple steering wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk hides a full-size spare tire.
With its incredible motor, lust-worthy body and proven Super Sport chassis, this Chevelle is the very definition of muscle car. If you're in the market for a top-notch classic that can win trophies and literally own the street, don't miss your chance to take home a storied Chevrolet legend!
