Description

Before you look at the mileage on this car, take a look at the photos. I mean study them, look at each one, and then guess how many miles this amazing 1987 Camaro IROC-Z has on it. Not one of you guessed over 87,000, but the truth is, this car is nicer than any other 3rd generation Camaro we've ever featured, including the one with only 6000 original miles. Owned and maintained by one of the guys who worked for NASCAR great Ricky Rudd, he truly knew how to take care of a Camaro.

He also bought it loaded with options. We have the original window sticker, and it's got a lot of options on it:

AR9 Custom gray cloth bucketsB2L 5.7 liter TPI V8B91 Black door edge guardsCC1 T-TopsC49 Rear window defrosterG80 Limited slip differentialJ65 Power disc brakesK04 Engine oil cooler MX0 Automatic transmission (mandatory with 5.7L V8)1SC IROC Option package #3 (which includes things like cruise control, tinted glass, power locks, power windows, power rear hatch release, power driver's seat, power mirrors, AM/FM/cassette stereo and fog lights)

First of all, it's virtually impossible to keep a black car looking this good for 24 years, yet here it is, wearing 100% factory paint. There are no signs of accident damage, no touched-up dings, nothing but clean, freshly detailed, unblemished paint. This car was apparently never driven in the rain, and spent every night tucked into its own garage under a cover. I mean, this car was adored by a guy who was an expert at keeping cars at their peak. Look at the decals none of them are even faded, let alone lifting or checked. The silver stripes circling the lower body are crisp and sharp, just as they were when this car was sitting on the showroom floor at Haley Auto Mall.

Check out the other details, too. The blacked-out trim is still dark and clear, with no chalkiness from UV exposure. The glass is crystal clear with no chips or even wiper marks on the windshield. There are no visible scuffs on the chin spoiler from steep driveways, and even the tail lights are vivid, bright, and clear. Amazing.

The top motor in the Camaros arsenal, the L98 350 cubic inch V8, lives under the hood of this IROC, and it runs perfectly. One of the most reliable and durable engines of the EFI era, the tuned-port L98 makes the IROC a legitimate threat on the streets, even years later. The engine bay is tidy and very OEM in appearance, with most of the components looking almost factory fresh. The raw aluminum pieces are a little dusty looking, but you can see that someone really cared about this car. Expert maintenance has resulted in a car that drives like new, idles perfectly, and rips to redline without strain. Everything works, including the A/C that blows ice cold, and amazingly, there have been no aftermarket modifications. Fluids have been regularly changed, including coolant and brake fluid, belts and hoses are recent, and the giant air filter up front has seen nothing dirtier than the haze on a warm summer day.

The only transmission up to the L98’s torque output was GM’s rugged 700R4 4-speed automatic, and this one shows no signs of age. There's no slipping and it bangs off full-throttle upshifts and lightning-quick downshifts with authority. The suspension has been properly maintained, and there are recent brakes at all four corners. The exhaust system certainly sounds authentic, and it's very possible that it is the original setup. Of course, there has never been any rust underneath, and the floors are every bit as solid as the rest of the body. Wheels are handsome 16-inch 5-spoke alloys wearing 245/50/16 BFGoodrich g-force T/A radials, which is the original size.

The condition of the gray cloth interior is nothing short of remarkable. There are no splits, tears, or frayed edges on the seats, and absolutely no stains or discoloration. The cushions are still firm and comfortable, and there's none of that sitting on railroad tracks feeling that you get from worn-out bucket seats. The driver's door panel shows some light wear, and a stray thread or two, but that's it for interior issues. All the gauges work, including the unique L98 5500 RPM tachometer, and the A/C blows ice cold. The seals are all supple and close up well, including the T-tops, which can still be stored in their original bags in the trunk. Even the carpets and original carpeted floor mats are exceptionally good with virtually no signs of use, despite 24 years and 87,000 miles of use. Seriously, you should be blown away by how nice this car is.

Documentation is excellent, and the original owner knew that this was going to be a special car one day. He kept the original window sticker, maintenance folder, Goodyear tire warranty booklet, the original salesman's business cards, owner's manual, and the warranty booklet. We also have a build sheet, sales contract, and even some of the original shipping cards that are always removed when the car is initially detailed before delivery. Impressive, no?

So forget about mileage having any bearing on a cars quality, at least in the case of this IROC. We haven't ever seen a nicer one, but we've seen a lot of lower-mileage cars that were definitely not as nice. It is loaded with options as well as the big engine, making it THE 3rd generation Camaro to own. If you're a fan, you know these are impossible to find in such spectacular condition without any modifications. Add in the documentation package and you have a car that is worth every penny of the asking price. Give us a call today!
