----------
No matter what or why you collect, there's no denying the blue chip appeal of mid-year Corvettes. And while classic Corvette culture may have started with small block offerings, it's the brand's big block cars that have ALWAYS commanded buyers' utmost respect. Pairing a Tri-power 427 with a Muncie 4-speed, this super clean Sting Ray is a highly exclusive rarity that wraps a fresh restoration in correct red-on-red aesthetics. And whether you're in the market for one of the coolest Corvettes ever made, or just an outstanding muscle car, it's the kind of Main Street centerpiece that can fulfill your lifelong dreams!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Accenting a correct coat of GM code 974 Rally Red with a bright white Stinger Stripe, this handsome roadster is the kind of classic that you can comfortably cruise to the big shows. That said, the car was certainly built to be displayed. And one look at our high definition photos reveals top-notch aesthetics that are the product of a through and detailed restoration. We all know fiberglass can be a challenge to restore, and this roadster has all the signs of an expert job including great panel alignment, good gaps, and no signs of cracks or stress marks in the usual places. That high quality work is sealed in glossy 2-stage, which, as we all know, will keep its integrity much longer than original single-stage. And overall, this drop-top is a fitting tribute to the most collectible era of Corvette motoring.
Thanks to a renewed dedication to motorsports and heavy influence from the original Mako Shark concept car, the second generation Corvette presents a sporty, hard-edged appearance. At the front of this classic, bullet-style marker lights, show worthy bumpers and a vivid cross-flag emblem cage a broad, stainless-trimmed grille. Behind that grille, an aggressive Stinger Hood flows to chip-free glass that's traced in straight stainless, cleared by matte wipers and sealed in fresh vinyl. At the sides of that hood, small door handles and a classy bowtie mirror float above simple heat extractors and traditional side pipes. And at the back of the car, monochromatic tail lamps split the difference between a chrome-trimmed fuel filler, a correct “Corvette STING RAY” emblem, a chrome-trimmed tag bracket and two more show worthy bumpers.
ENGINE
Tilt the car's hood and you'll find a 435 horsepower, 427 cubic inch big block that frames a correct “JE” suffix stamp and matching partial VIN in a '67-exclusive 3904351 casting number and January (A) 25th (25), 1967 (7) casting date. At the top of the Chevy Orange mill, familiar Holley carburetors ride between a chrome, correctly decaled air cleaner and bright stainless fluid lines. Below those carbs, a lightweight Winters intake funnels a perfect air/fuel mixture in to tough, cast iron heads, which are capped by steel valve covers. When the juice hits the cylinders, reliable, chrome-capped ignition sparks fresh, stainless-sleeved wires while a stock cam and rotating assembly push spent gases through factory exhaust manifolds. Cooling for that fire is provided by a beefy radiator, which hangs in front of pliable GM hoses and reproduction tower clamps. And, aesthetically, this Chevy's tidy engine compartment is exceptionally well done, framing a correct alternator, rebuilt master cylinder and reproduction Delco battery in clean, Satin Black surfacing.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Not surprisingly, someone spent a lot of time carefully restoring the bottom of this exclusive Vette. And, given the car has traveled less than 1K miles since it rolled out of the shop, everything is clean, fresh and virtually weather-free. Behind the awesome big block, a Muncie 4-speed sports a correct 3885010 casting number, a Muncie (P) assembled on March (C) 8th (08), 1967 (7) build stamp and a matching partial VIN. That tough transmission twists a factory-correct rear end that's fitted with highway-friendly gears. Turns come courtesy of factory power steering. Four disc brakes provide solid, confident stops. And all that reliable hardware rolls on conservative Rally Wheels that spin 7.75-15 BF Goodrich Silvertown redlines around stainless trim rings and polished center caps.
INTERIOR
Crack this C2's cockpit and you'll find a correct Red interior that appears to have been completely replaced during the car's extensive rebirth. Seating comes courtesy of correct leather thrones, which are anchored between correct headrests, fresh lap belts and bright stainless trim. From the driver's perch, a traditional clock and Delco AM/FM radio ride between rebuilt gauges and an aluminum-trimmed glove box. Below that dash, like-new carpet balances a small console and fully functional shifter between fresh stainless sills. Above those sills, chrome-trimmed door panels hang monochromatic accents between small armrests and traditional handles. In front of the driver, a wood-rimmed steering wheel spins thin satin spokes around a brilliant cross-flag emblem. And behind the passengers, a fully carpeted storage compartment provides a reasonable amount of cargo space.
