Description

Here at RK Motors Charlotte we specialize in rare and hard to find muscle cars. And, quite frankly, it's easy to get lost in the sea of high dollar, rare cars. Hemi E-Body Mopars are a good example. Their values rose so high that the average guy could no longer afford one, and of the guys that could, few of those actually drive their cars. This opened up the tribute E-body hemi market, which has produced literally hundreds of cars over the last five years. Quick question: when's the last time you saw a legit smallblock E-body that has not been molested, rusted out or turned into a Hemi clone? As the number one retailer of Mopars in the world since 2007, we can say with authority that it's been a long time. Which brings us to our super cool, highly original, numbers matching 1974 Plymouth Barracuda. Yes, this is an authentic 318 V8 car that has never been torn apart or transformed into a half-hearted HEMI clone. If you're in the market for a Plymouth muscle car that has been left just as the factory intended and can be driven just as the factory intended, this Barracuda is the car for you.

Before we go any further, let me decode the fender tag for you.

This Chrysler code KJ6 Avocado Gold '74 retains its original steel body and has seen no major repairs in its 37 year existence. Panel gaps are factory correct, the doors open and close with ease and the paint has been buffed to a brilliant shine that makes me believe the car must've been recently repainted. At the front of the car, the signature silver Barracuda grille, complete with red inserts, contrasts the Avocado Gold nicely and gives the car a menacing appearance. A full width chrome front bumper with black guards still has a great shine after 37 years of being mounted to the car. Headlights and fog lights, both trimmed in excellent looking chrome appear as though they just left the factory. On the hood of the car, a subdued chrome “Plymouth” emblem combines with original fender mounted turn signal indicators and an original chrome antenna add detail to the cars refined shape. The popular 70s banishment of ornamentation is taken to the extreme on the sides of this Barracuda with only the original factory optioned chrome driver's side mirror, flush satin finished door handles and traditional gold Chrysler pentastar logos disrupting the profile. All glass is in exceptional condition and looks to be original, from the factory pieces. A white vinyl top contrasts the Avocado Gold on the side of the car to give a faux convertible look and is trimmed by original stainless that has been well kept and is dent free. At the back of the car, an original wide chrome bumper complete with bumper guards and a grille matching surround looks nice and is perfectly straight. Four pristine Ferrari inspired round tail lights are trimmed in chrome and house small reverse lights while a chrome and gold “Barracuda by Plymouth” rear valence emblem serves as the finishing touch.

The engine compartment in this rare Barracuda is a work of mid-seventies art. The engine has never been pulled out of the car and is painted from intake to oil pan in the same P4349217 Mopar Smog Blue that it wore from the factory. On top of the motor is a correct black air cleaner and a distributor that runs sparks through correct Mopar Electronic Suppression wires. Original exhaust manifolds runs down and out of the compartment into a single outlet exhaust system. In front of the engine, a correct Mopar remanufactured air conditioning compressor sits behind a correct radiator that is complete with a correct fan shroud and a correct Mopar coolant decal on its upper support. To the left of the block is a correct master cylinder and brake booster and a reproduction Mopar battery. To the right of the block is a correct electronic ignition module complete with a correct Mopar decal. All the belts and hoses appear to be in great shape and the KJ6 Avocado Gold hood and inner fenders, one of which features the cars correct emissions information decal contrast excellently to the Mopar blue engine.

On the lift, this car looks just as you'd expect a well-used 37 year old car to look. The floor pans are solid and trouble free and the suspension and engine cradle are straight without any damage or obvious repair. The numbers matching 318 V8 sends power to a numbers matching Torqueflite automatic transmission that has never been out of the car. That transmission sends power through a solid looking driveshaft to the original rear axle. Up front, an independent suspension houses factory optioned power disc brakes, and out back leaf springs are shackled behind original power assisted drum brakes. Bolted to the wheel hubs is Four 14 inch chrome Plymouth Rally wheels with matching center caps, satin finished trim rings and 205/70/14 Goodyear Eagle ST radials. This is the kind of car that can be used as these cars were intended. You won't be afraid to drive it anywhere and it's reliable enough to make sure you get wherever you're going in style.

The interior of the car has been restored to OEM condition with white interior components that match the white vinyl top. Correct bucket seats in the front look showroom fresh and complement a white bench in the rear that appears to have never been used. White door panels, featuring new chrome handles flow into white A-pillar covers that perfectly match a tightly strung white headliner. Below those A-pillars, the black dash pad is free from warping and houses typical Barracuda instruments including a large speedometer, a fuel gauge, a temperature gauge, an alternator gauge and the signature Mopar second hand driven clock. Below the dash pad you'll find vents and controls for the heater and factory optioned air conditioning, controls for the factory optioned AM/FM Multiplex stereo and even a map light, which I think is one of the coolest details of the car. The original steering wheel looks very 70s specific and complements the T-shifter housed above the Torqueflite transmission in a contoured factory optioned console with wood grain applique. New carpet is protected by Barracuda inscribed floor mats and runs past roof suspended black shoulder belts to visually connect with a black package tray. The trunk has been expertly restored, with new weatherstripping, the correct, original jack, and a matching spare that's perched on a new mat.

Documentation for this car includes two original Chrysler Corporation broadcast sheets found in the interior of the car.
