If you're a Ford fan, you've undoubtedly noticed the plethora of high quality Mustangs we've featured over the past few years. From our "1964.5 Holman Moody Pace Car":http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/sales/inventory/active/1964-1-2-Ford-Mustang-Pace-Car/134888 to the "2012 Shelby GTS Prototype":http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/sales/inventory/active/2012-Ford-Shelby-Mustang-GTS/135390 RK Motors Charlotte is working hard to continue our reign as the number one source for top-notch pony cars. You might be thinking: that's all well and good, but what about the enthusiast who wants a cool car they can actually drive and enjoy? Well, for those folks, we have awesome offerings like this crisp '66 resto-mod. With tasteful, traditional aesthetics, a supercharged 'mod motor', and a thoroughly upgraded suspension that's accented by a tough Tremec transmission, this coupe is an excellent way to enjoy all aspects of the classic car hobby!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Beginning life as a solid Mustang notchback, this pony proved a fine starting point for building an impressive weekend cruiser. The car's restoration no doubt began with hours of massaging vintage panels into a straight, wave-free canvas. Once that intense labor resulted in good fit and finish, brilliant pigment was sealed in durable clear and rubbed to an intense shine. And today, this coupe rolls as one fully sorted road warrior that mixes premium Mustang muscle with classic Detroit swagger.

Back in the day, Dearborn designers made sure every year of the first generation Mustang had plenty of visual sizzle. And in the 21st century, it doesn't get much better than this Ford's classy combination of correct accents and professionally placed trim. At the front of the car, a bright Pony Grille centers a galloping Mustang emblem between traditional headlights, a mirrored bumper and a Shelby-style valance that's stretched around chrome-trimmed parking lamps. Behind that grille, a “FORD” branded hood anchors polished wipers in front of dark-tint glass and fresh stainless frames. At the sides of that glass, bullet-style mirrors reflect traditional door handles, ornate quarter trim, colorful fender emblems and straight rocker guards. And at the back of the car, a second mirrored bumper frames billet taillights, a billet fuel filler, small reverse lamps and polished exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Pop the Kansas-flat hood and this pony transforms from classic to state-of-the-art in the blink of an eye. Looking completely natural between slick, Satin Black fenders is a 4.6 liter DOHC V8 that makes excellent use of an Eaton M112 roots-style supercharger. You see, the key to a great resto-mod is taking the virtues of a classic factory design and incorporating modern mechanical elements that are as stylish as they are seamless. And nowhere is that philosophy more evident than in this Mustang's fully detailed engine bay. A long-time thoroughbred of Ford's performance car stables, this trusty 'mod motor' utilizes tumble-style heads, a fixed-runner intake, high performance cams and a Teksid aluminum block to create an unbeatable combination of smooth cruising and spirited performance. Twist the key and the cylinders rumble to life, singing baritone notes through brazen Magnaflow mufflers. Goose the throttle and a factory-style air intake, positioned behind a beefy aluminum radiator, zings the engine toward redline. Drop the clutch and the car settles into an anxious gait, backing killer speed with docile street manners.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Take a look at our professional, high-resolution photography and you'll see that the bottom of this fully sorted resto-mod is a literal expose in proven componentry. Behind the first-class Ford block, a tough Tremec 5-speed drives a durable Ford 9-inch. That versatile powertrain rides a lucid suspension that's 1-part Heidts and 1-part Ford. At the front of that chassis, power rack-and-pinion steering makes the best of turns. At the corners of the floor, hydro-boost power-assisted calipers cinch two drilled and slotted rotors, and two vented rotors. Speaking of floorpans, they're a solid lot that, naturally, is decorated in traditional Satin Black paint. The aforementioned mufflers and previously mentioned tips cap large stainless pipes that are weaved into an X-shaped crossover. Everything rolls on chrome Foose rims, which spin 215/45ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports in front of 235/45ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports. And all that road-going prowess is finished with massaged torque boxes, welded subframe connectors, carefully bent fluid lines and a fresh stainless fuel tank.

INTERIOR

Open this well-done coupe's doors and you'll find a fully restored cockpit that's been updated with just the right amount of comfort and convenience. There's a modern bench seat that rides just behind heated, power-adjustable buckets. A monochromatic dash hangs a full array of Auto Meter Sport-Comp gauges opposite a traditional glovebox. A custom console centers a chrome Hurst shifter in front of an SN95-inspired armrest. Fresh carpet floats Cobra-branded floor mats beneath stainless-trimmed foot pedals. Cobra-branded door panels front modern power windows. A tight headliner frames fresh visors, one of which is wired with a small Bluetooth microphone. A modern JVC head unit funnels that Bluetooth, along with MP3, HD Radio and satellite capability, through big Kicker speakers. In front of the driver, a polished steering wheel laps a painted, tilting column. And behind the passengers, a carpeted trunk hides the car's relocated battery behind spacious, dry storage.

The true beauty of a well-done resto-mod is that it can be anything you want it to be. Love Ford lines, but want a little more substance? Looking for a classic that'll wow crowds AND tear up the back roads? Here it is, no compromises, no disclaimers and no excuses!
