Description

The pro-touring movement might have its critics, but when you get the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of cars like this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS, you understand how wildly fun these cars are to drive. The recipe for an amazing pro tourer is simple, take a classic car and upgrade it with a modern suspension and a modern drivetrain that is capable of outperforming the competition in the corners and down the straights. As far as pro-touring Camaros go, it doesn't get much better than this '67 Camaro SS. With over 600 horsepower at the rear-wheels, an updated interior, and an upgraded suspension, this Camaro is an absolute blend of raw power and finesse.

The beneficiary of a complete ground-up restoration, this Camaro is an original California car leaving the Los Angeles factory in '67. Nearly 45 years later during its complete restoration, the body received new rear quarters and a driver's-side fender before it was shot with Chrysler's Indy Red paint. The incredible look starts at the front end where you'll find a body width chrome front bumper. Above the bumper, four headlights are found on either side of the grille, and above the grille a modest hood scoop makes plenty of room for an incredible power plant. Up top you will find a custom black cloth top with a power convertible. Top up or top down, this Camaro is absolutely stunning. Down the sides the body lines are fantastic and features mini-tubbed rear wheel wells. At the rear bumper, two taillights flank a rear gas cap that is above a massive rear chrome bumper. The outstanding look inspired the previous owner to name the Camaro “One Bad Apple.”

Its namesake also refers to the massive power plant that you will see if you lift the hood. Powering the Camaro is a 548ci Merlin all-aluminum Big Block Chevy, that when put on a chassis dyno cranked out an incredible 618hp and 603 lb./ft. of torque to the rear wheels. The engine features 4-bolt billet main caps and a 4.53 bore. The engine build was quite impressive and utilizes JE/SRP pistons, COMP Xtreme street solid roller XR280, COMP Xtreme roller lifters, pushrods, MSD distributor, and Pro Magnum roller rockers. When you have an incredible engine like the Merlin block stuffed in a street vehicle you immediately have to be concerned with overheating, but in front of the engine the Camaro has been equipped with an immense custom radiator with two large electric fans to ensure no stoplight gets the best of the engine.

Put the '67 F-body on a lift and you'll reveal a very detailed underside. Connected to the bottom of the engine is the instantly recognizable gold Milodon oil pan. Spent gases travel down 2” custom stainless headers fabricated from a Stainless Works kit. From there the gases travel through a custom 3” X-pipe style exhaust system, complete with Borla XR-1-3 mufflers that give it an incredible sound. Bolted to the engine is a Centerforce dual-friction 12” clutch that sends all that power to Tremec TKO 5-speed transmission with a .068 5th gear. The power then travels through a 3.5” aluminum driveshaft, to a Currie 9” rear end with a 3.00 Detroit Truetrac differential.

At the front of the vehicle a Wayne Due custom front sub-frame has been installed along with C4 Corvette front suspension arms and spindles. At all four corners QA1 double-adjustable shocks and coil-over springs make this Camaro a very capable track car. The entire Camaro rides on 17” Budnik Famoso wheels that have been wrapped in BF Goodrich rubber. Behind the rims, Baer brakes are responsible for slowing down the 548 Merlin.

Open the door to the Camaro and you will be greeted by a complete custom interior that features Corbeau front bucket seats, all of which is covered in Houndstooth cloth and black leather. The Houndstooth theme starts on the door, where you'll also find power windows. In front of the Budnik Steering wheel, a cluster of Auto Meter Phantom gauges keep an eye on the 548 Merlin. Today the Odometer reads 1668 miles since its complete restoration. Between the front two seats the Hurst shifter for the Tremec 5-speed lies in wait on the transmission tunnel. On the dash you will see the upgraded Vintage Air A/C system and a custom Rockford Fosgate AM/FM/CD head unit. Behind the front seats is an additional bench seat and a roll bar to protect you and your three closest friends. Inside the trunk is where you'll find the Optima 'red top' battery. Whether it's on the track or on the street, this interior is very impressive and is a great place to log miles from.

The sale of this incredible Camaro includes a dyno sheet that verifies the 618hp at the rear wheels.

The pro-touring movement can be more than just a classic car that has been upgraded with modern suspension and a modern drivetrain. When they are done right, like this 1967 Camaro SS, the results can be phenomenal! Whether you want to win show awards or unload it on a track, this Camaro fits whatever your needs are for a true street machine. If you are in the market for a pro-touring Camaro, it doesn't get much better than this F-body. Head on down to our showroom as soon as you can, there's a good chance that this first year Camaro won't stick around long!
