----------

One of the many great things about the muscle car era was the Detroit automakers' ability to inject excitement and performance in to EVERY model on their showroom floors. That translated to awesome, ground pounding machines for virtually every buyer and a healthy list of go-fast options which allowed those buyers to specify whatever combination of equipment they wanted. Take, for example, this 1970 Plymouth Road Runner. Dressed in brilliant Lemon Twist and Black aesthetics, and rocking a hood-fed 383/3-speed drivetrain, it's the kind of car you can take to the local strip to beat up crosstown rivals, or cruise on an everyday grocery run. If you're in the market for an old school MoPar street warrior that's one-part fun and two parts cool, this clean drop-top is your ticket to happiness!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Back in 2007 this awesome Plymouth traveled the national show circuit, racking up substantial accolades. First up was an appearance at the Chrysler Classic MoPar World Series, where it was awarded 117 out of a possible 120 points. Then an appearance at the Chrysler Classic & MCG MoPar World Finals netted 300 out of a possible 337 points. Now, we all know you don't consistently score at that level unless you've brought some super nice metal. And this B-Body, likely spending most of its life as a clean daily driver, proved the perfect starting point for a high quality, rotisserie restoration. The car's arrow-straight body, which includes solid-closing doors on top of better-than-factory alignment, was completely disassembled and massaged into spectacular surfaces. Once those surfaces were clean and fully prepped, a flashy coat of Lemon Twist 2-stage was detailed with satin stripes and buffed to a glossy shine. And today, this vivid classic rolls as one fully sorted head turner that features a great combination of stylish looks and tough street manners.

Replaced during the thorough restoration, every bit of this MoPar's bright ornamentation presents extremely well. At the front of the car, a textured grille hangs an off-set “PLYMOUTH” script between four halogen headlamps, a dressed bumper and clear parking lights. Behind that grille, a familiar Air Grabber Hood centers an otherwise wind-cheating scoop in front of satin-finished windshield wipers. Above that hood, like-new glass rides behind polished frames, pliable vinyl and a small chrome mirror. Below that glass, slab-sided body panels hang traditional Chrysler door handles between stylish side scoops, clean marker lamps and subtle Road Runner ornamentation. And at the back of the car, a second chrome bumper centers clear reverse lamps under factory taillights, a detailed deck stripe and broad “P L Y M O U T H” lettering.

ENGINE

Peer between the fenders and you'll find a 383 cubic inch B block that, back in 1970, was commonly called the Road Runner V8. At the top of the stout mill, a coated carburetor seats a familiar Coyote Duster air cleaner in the aforementioned Air Grabber hood. Below that 4-barrel, a spotless, orange block wears familiar steel valve covers and freshly restored exhaust manifolds. The big engine's fires are lit by reproduction Chrysler Electronic Suppression wires, a reproduction Chrysler electronic voltage regulator and a tagged points distributor. And cooling comes courtesy of a beefy, Chrysler-branded radiator that's augmented with pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps. As expected, the clean engine bay is finished with all the right details, including a requisite red cap battery, a purple Road Runner horn and an appropriate washer tank. And, naturally, the clean mill is framed in a virtual sea of Lemon Twist 2-stage.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Speaking of Lemon Twist 2-stage: park this Road Runner on a lift and you'll find solid floorpans that frame correct componentry in a full appropriation of the stuff. Behind the buff 383, a correct A727 TorqueFlite 3-speed spins a standard 8.75-inch axle that's finished with a Sure Grip differential and familiar, 3.23 gears. Below that proven drivetrain, a familiar front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension has been completely rebuilt to factory specifications. Turns come courtesy of factory power steering. Stops are provided by correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust is handled by free-flowing, 2.5-inch pipes, which jettison cooked dinosaurs through traditional turbo mufflers and polished stainless tips. And power meets the pavement through attractive Rallye Wheels, which spin F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas Custom Wide Treads around stainless beauty rings and Argent center caps.

INTERIOR

Pop this B-Body's solid doors and you'll find a taut Black interior that's a true thing of beauty. In the middle of that cockpit, silver-piped seats are in excellent shape, displaying no signs of sun damage. In front of those seats, a monochromatic dash frames factory telemetry and an old school AM radio. At the base of that dash, fade-free carpet floats color-keyed floor mats between stainless-trimmed foot pedals and a wood-trimmed console that's centered on a correct Chrysler Slap Stick. At the sides of that carpet, stainless-trimmed door panels hang bright handles and simple armrests beneath Gloss Black frames. In front of the driver, a thin steering wheel spins a color-keyed rim around a Road Runner horn button. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk hides a fresh mat beneath a correct jack and full-size spare tire.
