Description

In the 90s a new generation of car enthusiasts latched on to spectacular, technology-packed performance cars from the 'big five' Japanese automakers. One of these cars, the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, was a captive import sold through Dodge dealers as the Stealth R/T Twin Turbo. Often referred to as the golden age of Japanese performance, cars like the 3000GT (Dodge Stealth), Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7, Acura NSX and Nissan 300ZX utilized sleek aerodynamics, small displacement motors, multiple cams, multiple valves and turbocharging to achieve sub five second 0-60 times. The one owner, all original 1991 Stealth R/T Twin Turbo featured here has only 14,800 actual miles and is an exceptional, reference quality example of an increasingly rare car.

1991 was the first year of production for the Nagoya, Japan built Stealth R/T Twin Turbo with only 3016 cars built for that model year. This particular Stealth was sold by Southside Dodge to a gentleman in Richmond Virginia who obviously spent a lot of time pampering the car. Averaging well under 800 miles a year since the day it rolled out of the showroom, I'd be willing to bet that this car has rarely seen anything other than sunshine and warm temperatures. A quick check of the body, undercarriage and wheels shows no evidence of abuse or rust. The body has never seen any repairs and the high gloss X94 black paint is all original and in great condition. The hood domes, which house the electronic controllers for the driver adjustable suspension, show none of the typical fade or wear found on most of these cars. The power antenna still works and still looks factory fresh and the weatherstripping, which is prone to fade and crack on these cars, is in like new condition. Original tinted glass all around and original lights and lenses that are without haze and discoloration serve to highlight how well kept the car has been. The factory alloy 17 inch wheels are in excellent shape and still wear the cars original 245/45/17 Goodyear Eagle radials. After 20 years, this car is still a true head turner at any speed!

In the early 1990's, the factory performance war finally started to heat up again, but this time instead of Chevy, Ford and Mopar battling it out, it was the Japanese automakers with their turbo-charged compacts. Sure, the Viper made its debut, and the Corvette was still around, but those cars were in a different league and the price of admission to that league was steep. The Japanese automakers recognized a niche for affordable sports cars and a performance war began. The Mitsubishi designed Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo was a product of that war benefitting from technology that was very advanced for its time. The engine is a twin turbocharged 3.0-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 with electronic fuel injection, aluminum heads and roller rockers. The turbos are intercooled via intakes in the front air damn and make the car good for 296 horsepower and 306 lb./ft. of torque. Not bad when you consider that all of this horsepower and technological goodness could be had in a relatively light car for about half the price of the flagship Viper. The engine compartment in this Stealth is 100% original and in beautiful, original condition. In all black, it's as serious looking as the rest of the car with just a hint of silver and red here and there adding color and contrast.

Stealth R/T Twin Turbo models like this one came standard with a 5-speed Getrag manual transmission feeding a full-time all-wheel-drive system. The 45 front, and 55 rear power split gives the car catapult-like acceleration in any weather condition. All the while the four wheel steering system turns the rear wheels in phase with the front wheels at high speeds for additional stability and better cornering. At low speeds, the system is completely transparent and acts just like normal two wheel steering to keep the system almost entirely unnoticeable. A driver selected dual-mode exhaust system opens up the mufflers for more power at high engine speeds, giving the car an aggressive bark while allowing you to have a daily driver that won't wake up the neighbors every time you pull into your driveway. The driver selected variable rate four wheel independent suspension does an excellent job tightening apexes or loosening tension depending on where the sport/touring selector is placed. And stopping comes courtesy of four piston calipers all around with 16 inch rotors up front and 15 inch rotors in the rear. This car feels incredibly sure-footed and planted no matter what you're doing and these cars are surprisingly fast, and, more importantly, extremely stable. With the twin turbos, full-time AWD, and the 5-speed, this car is an absolute blast to drive!

The red cloth interior is one of my favorite features of this Stealth. It takes me back to the days when automakers weren't afraid to put something other than gray, black or tan inside their cars. The six-way power driver's seat keeps you comfortable for quick blasts of speed in turns as well as road trips even though it doesn't look like many road trips have been made in this cars red buckets. The rear seats do not appear to have ever been used and the red carpet and red floor mats are free of wear and stains. The original wrap around dash and dash surround has zero defects and all the gauges and instruments work exactly as they should. The door panels, which typically faded and ballooned from heat and light, are in new condition and the dash features automated climate control, an AM/FM radio with cassette player and a CD player. Coming standard with that CD player is a factory 100 watt amplifier and 6 speaker sound system that features two tweeters and two six inch speakers in the doors and two six by nine speakers in the rear. At the front of the console you'll find the controls for the active suspension system and dual-mode exhaust system and in the middle of the console, behind the shifter, you'll find the button to adjust the power seats. Even in the early 90s, performance cars were beginning to carry a host of luxury and convenience features. In this Stealth you'll find a whole list of conveniences including power windows, power locks, intermittent front and rear wipers, heated remote power outside mirrors, cruise control, a tilt column, a leather wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls, a rear defroster, a driver's side airbag and amber lit full gauges. Open the hatch to find rear cargo area that is showroom new with fresh carpet, a like new privacy shade and an original spare that has never been removed from the trunk.

Included in this sale is the cars original owner's manual with the original owners name and original Southside Dodge salesman and service representatives cards.

This is a true collector grade car that can be driven and enjoyed for years, while you watch its value climb. It's gorgeous inside and out, loaded with toys and as exciting to look at as it is to drive. If you want an ultra-clean, rare, one owner Stealth R/T Twin Turbo, in pristine original condition, call us right now. You won't be disappointed!
