----------

By the early '60s, Pontiac, GM's 'lowly companion marque', was experiencing a huge spike in prestige and popularity. Eventually the GTO, an octane-infused performance package turned brand halo dynamo, became one of the hottest names in the automotive landscape. And when you take one look at a classic like this fully documented GTO drop-top, it's not hard to understand why. The car's retractable roof optimizes athletic backroad jaunts. Its hot Pontiac 400 V8 is tame enough to cruise on the highway, yet strong enough to own the stoplight. Its impeccable restoration mixes all-original sheetmetal with acute attention to detail. And its correct Silverglaze-over-Red color combination is one of the coolest schemes to ever adorn old school Detroit iron. If you're in the market for a tailored muscle car that wraps legendary performance in limitless appeal, here's your next classic!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Stored in a dry Ohio garage for over 25 years, this fully documented A-Body is the beneficiary of a body-off, rotisserie restoration that placed a major emphasis on details. The car's clean and solid profile, that utilizes original sheetmetal and rides on all-original floors, endured hours of block-sanding before it was sealed in several coats of correct Silverglaze 2-stage. And that R-M-supplied pigment has been dressed in all-original stainless, restored by Ohio's Dell Metal Polishing, and capped in correct Black vinyl. At the front of the car, a flashy dual-port grille founds ornate parking lamps and a prominent “G T O” emblem between a wide bumper and stacked T3 headlights. At the top of the car, a broad hood centers a small scoop and monochromatic arrowhead in front of fresh glass that's flanked by a correct mirror. At the sides of the car, flowing pinstripes and sporty GTO emblems add a little class, while traditional door handles perfectly complement a correct antenna. And out back, a stainless-trimmed valance hangs louver-style taillights between and a fourth “GTO” emblem and a second bumper that's finished with clear reverse lamps.

ENGINE

Pop the hood and the first thing you'll notice is a 400 cubic inch Pontiac V8 that features many date-correct components. Less obvious, of course, is that stalwart mill's 9790071 casting number, July (G) 10th (10), 1967 (7) casting date and 360 horsepower, 4-speed-exclusive “WS” assembly stamp. At the top of the block, a correct Rochester Quadrajet, rebuilt by Cliff's High Performance of Mount Vernon, Ohio, bridges the gap between a polished air cleaner, bright stainless fluid lines and a date-correct intake. That intake rides between correct, cast iron heads, which hang a familiar AC breather and attractive valve covers over fully restored exhaust manifolds. A correct distributor sequences spark though fresh Packard TVRS Suppression cables. Cooling is provided by a shrouded and decaled radiator, which sends water around a big pulley fan via GM-branded hoses and traditional tower clamps. Charge comes courtesy of a date-correct alternator and reproduction Delco Energizer battery. And aesthetically, the impressive engine bay is fully detailed, from its vivid decals and correct firewall overspray all the way to its fresh brake booster and thick Turquoise block skin.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Solid, original and fully stripped during the extensive rebuild, this goat's spotless floors and straight frame are completely free of significant issues and major defects. The stout V8 spins power to a Muncie M20 4-speed, which hangs a correct 3885010 casting number in front of a Muncie (P) assembled on February (B) 13th (13), 1967 (7) build stamp. That proven gearbox twists torque to a tough GM 10-bolt that's fitted with fun, 3.55 gears. At the sides of that rock-solid drivetrain, aluminized, true-dual exhaust pipes connect the aforementioned manifolds with throaty turbo mufflers. At the sides of that booming soundtrack, a tagged and rebuilt suspension is complete with factory power steering and upgraded power front disc and rear drum brakes. Muscle meets the pavement through crisp Rally Is, which spin G70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport redlines around stainless trim rings and black-trimmed center caps. And absolutely everything, from this Poncho's correct spiral shocks to its correct body mounts, is fully sorted and ready to show!

INTERIOR

Open the car's doors and you'll find a correct Red interior that's simple yet sporty. Front and center, firm bench and bucket seats wrap bright chrome trim around correct vinyl covers. Those hides look great next to a fresh, wood-trimmed dash, which integrates rebuilt telemetry above a correct pushbutton radio. On the floor, new carpet anchors a simple Hurst shifter and stylish, wood-trimmed console between thick, Pontiac-themed floor mats and classy, Fisher-themed sills. At the sides of the car, fresh door panels hang new chrome handles under straight trim and brilliant GTO insignias. In front of the driver, a Custom Sport Steering Wheel spins a faux wood rim around a Teal, Pontiac-branded horn button. And behind the passengers, a clean trunk sandwiches a full-size spare tire between a standard mat and requisite decklid decals.
