While the phrase “factory-correct” often conjures images of tired museum pieces that hang out with clueless volunteers, it can also stand for something truly great. Classic designs like this cool Custom Deluxe often feature an impressive mix of style and reliability. And, with that in mind, this attractive Ford is a living example of why, decades after their introduction, these cars still enjoy a dedicated fan base. Featuring correct flathead power and a tough 3-speed transmission, this solid drop-top probably spent the better part of its 67 years as a stylish cruiser used for family fun. And today, decked in timeless aesthetics, it's poised for the spotlight and destined for the car show. If you're ready to step up to the charm and class that made America great, take a close look at this chrome-clad cruiser!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Approaching this convertible, it's difficult not to be taken with its sleek profile. To achieve those striking good looks, the car had to be a solid starting point that benefitted from top-notch metalwork. And, once that metalwork was complete, it had to be shot with some of the best maroon pigment on the market. In the name of authenticity, traditional offerings often feature questionable paintwork. But this Ford's enduring shine is a first-rate testament to its high-quality restoration. Reflections are straight and unbroken. There are no major imperfections visible anywhere. And overall, the car literally defines the term 'front row cruiser'.

American optimism at its very finest, this classic's ornate design is a stunning example of how popular culture shapes the transportation industry. At the front of the car, a bold grille centers a “8” branded bullet between a guarded bumper, amber driving lamps and a classy Ford crest. At the sides of that crest, rounded fenders hang chrome-cased headlights between aggressive hood trim and Deluxe rocker guards. Those guards flow to body-matched fender skirts, which parallel polished door handles capped lock cylinders and stainless profile spears. Above those spears, tan cloth centers a glass backlite behind polished mirrors, polished spotlights and a full array of stainless-trimmed glass. And, at the back of the car, a second guarded bumper frames factory taillights, a chrome-trimmed decklid and a second classy Ford crest.

ENGINE

If Henry Ford perfected one aspect of his automobiles, it was the Ford V8. Introduced in 1932 as a durable, torque-rich competitor to more expensive and labor-intensive 8-cylinders, the flathead has established an unmatched reputation as the go-to mill for vintage and kustom car enthusiasts. And, in keeping with tradition, this stellar classic is powered by 239 cubic inches of 'flatty' V8. Spinning smooth compression into roughly 100 horsepower, the throaty engine growls with the help of a roster of vintage parts. Air enters through a painted and decaled oil bath and, juiced by a small Ford carburetor, exits through correct, cast iron exhaust manifolds. Pliable belts turn a traditional generator while a beefy radiator cycles water through big Ford hoses and tight screw clamps. Aesthetically, the block, which perches a correctly-decaled oil canister on 24-stud heads, has been painted a sedate tan hue. And overall, the car's glossy engine bay is a charming and 100% functional step back in to a much simpler, and some would say better, period of American automotive history.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Take a look under this roaring rag-top and you'll see just how much the automotive world has changed when it comes to ride, handling and structural integrity. The car's coated floors make a suitable backdrop for a Satin Black frame and factory-accurate suspension. A 3-speed manual transmission sends power to a familiar Ford axle. In front of that drivetrain, control arms and coil springs remain just as they looked back in 1950. And the same holds true behind that drivetrain, where leaf springs and the aforementioned pumpkin add integrity and grip. Stops are provided by 4-wheel drum brakes. True-dual exhaust suspends glasspack-style mufflers in front of polished stainless tips. And everything rides on body-matched steelies, which spin G78-15 Coker Classic whitewalls around stylized trim rings and “FORD” branded hub caps.

INTERIOR

Inside this Custom Deluxe, a tasteful interior appears much more upscale than the car's age would suggest. Broad bench seats, which sport rich, 2-tone covers, ride clean carpet and weather-free matting. In front of those thrones, a color-keyed dash founds clear gauges and a correct AM radio above factory Magic Aire heat. At the sides of that dash, 2-tone door panels frame correct chrome handles. In front of the driver, an artful Ford steering wheel spins a full horn ring around a factory shifter. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features a correct jack and full-size spare tire.
