Description

Chevelle Super Sport convertibles areone of the hottest muscle cars on the market. In fact they're selling so fast thatwe're having a hard time keeping any in our RK Motors Charlotte showroom. Our last three big block convertibles all sold in less than two months and brought $60K, $80K and $90Krespectively.This superb,100% numbers matching 1969 Chevelle SS396 is a 2008 AACA National Senior First Prize winner that has been restored to better than original condition and likely won't last long.

The first thing you'll want to do is check the trim tag, which confirms that this is a real GM code 71 LeMans Blue Chevelle with code 791 Parchment interior. Here's the breakdown:

In 2008 this Chevelle received a $125K frame-off, rotisserie restoration and remains in top show condition today. Stripped to bare metal, the original steel has never been repaired or cut and is as perfect today as when it rolled out of GMs Baltimore assembly plant in January of 1969. Gaps are excellent, and the body lines flow from panel to panel in an uninterrupted curve. The basecoat, clearcoat paint has been wet sanded and buffed to remove any defects and the end result is a stunning, vivid, GM code 71 LeMans Blue Chevelle that will delight people wherever you go. On top of the LeMans Blue, correct white Super Sport side stripes were installed and only serve to emphasize how incredibly straight this car is. Once the body restoration was complete, all chrome and stainless trim was fully restored to better-than-new condition and re-installed on the car. At the front of the car, athick chrome bumper shines better than it probably shined in 1969 and houses pristine stainless trimmed marker lights. Above the full width bumper, the black accented Super Sport grille contrasts with the dynamic LeMans Blue paint to highlight the cars tapered body panels. At the sides of the grille, four correct T3 headlights are connected by a traditional Chevrolet grille bar that features a factory fresh “SS 396” emblem at the center axis of the car. On the header panel, a chrome “Chevelle by Chevrolet” emblem complements chrome louvers on the SS specific domed hood and excellent looking stainless trim which houses a new windshield. At the sides of the car, the straight SS stripe sits above pristine “SS 396” front fender emblems and chrome trimmed front and rear marker lights. Factory optioned stainless wheel well trim combines with chrome GM door handles and a chrome driver's side rear view mirror to serve as the only interruptions in the sea of LeMans Blue. At the back of the car, more perfect stainless trim lines the new power operated white top which sits above a “Chevelle by Chevrolet” trunk emblem and chrome trimmed tail lights.A black Super Sport rear valence, complete with a centered “SS 396” emblem, aligns perfectly between the tail lights and sits above another show worthy chrome bumper.

Under the correctly insulated hood, sandwiched between satin black fenders you'll find acompletely rebuilt 396 Turbo Jet V8 that is original to this car. It is highly detailed, and the numbers on it have been exhaustively researched. Every major component is correctly date-coded, and the block still carries its original stampings which are date correct and match the cars VIN.

Here's the breakdown:

Engine stamping number - T0124JA 19B336110: T = Tonawanda, 01 = January, 24 = Day of Month, JA = 325 horsepower 396 V8 and 19B336110 which matches the cars VIN (136679B336110) and confirms that this block is original to this car

The engine casting number is 3955272 which is correct for 396 blocks used in 1969 Chevelles.

The intake manifold casting number is 3931067, which is correct for a 396, and it carries a casting date of L17 8, which decodes as December 17th, 1968.

The casting number for the heads is 3931063, which is correct to a 1969 396 V8.

The exhaust manifolds are the original pieces for this car with casting numbers that are 3909878 for the driver's side and 3816178 for the passenger's side.

Even the Rochester Quadrajet carburetor and steering box, with a casting number of 5691676, are original to this car.

From the chrome air cleaner and valve covers, which are a factory correct part off the Z25 SS option, to the Chevy orange paint on the block and heads, this engine compartment is correct and well done. From the finish on the brake booster and air conditioning components to little things like correct reproduction hoses, correct factory markings and correct clamps, this is an exacting restoration of a very strong original car that has many of its original engine components.

Underneath the car, you'll findan original factory optioned 4-speed manual transmission with a main case casting number of 3825660 that confirms its status as an M20 Muncie. Stamped on that transmission is P9T09A 19B336110 which decodes as: P= Muncie, 9 = 1969, T = December, 09 = Day of the month manufactured, A= Which means it was made for the Turbo Jet 396 and 19B336110 which matches the cars VIN and confirms that it is this cars original transmission. The tail shaft carries a correct casting number of 3857584 and sends power from the fully rebuilt Muncie to the cars rugged 12-bolt rear end with correct 3.55 gears. The entire suspension has been rebuilt and features correct components including spiral shocks, sway bars and standard Super Sport power front disc brakes. The floors have been correctly finished in satin black and afactory correct reproduction chambered exhaust system sounds predatory through correct polished oval tips. At the corners, 14-inch Super Sport wheels with correct SS center caps and trim rings carry correct, white letter Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 tires.

LeMans Blue and Parchment go together like few other color combinations, and it works extremely well on Chevelles in particular. The interiors were not flashy and over-dressed, but rather functional and stylish, and are exactly right for the performance cars in which they live because the black and white combination just never goes out of style. This driver's compartment has been expertly restored to a very high standard, with new materials used throughout. The strato-bucket seats feature fresh foam under the new cushions and new stainless trim. New door panels are highlighted by new stainless trim, new “SS 396” emblems and chrome buttons for the power windows and door locks. Overhead, a new headliner is bright and clean and new black carpets and floor mats keep the white from being blinding. The black dash is all new and houses a speedometer, an optional tachometer, an optional electric clock and small fuel, temperature, oil pressure and amps gauges. The optional center console is in great condition featuring aHurst shifter that is topped by a white Hurst cue ball. The optional 'blue light' radio is present and accounted for below controls for the heat and optional four seasons air conditioning. Connecting the driver to the road is an optional tilt column with an optional wood and aluminum GM Rallye steering wheel. In back, the trunk is fully restored with spatter finish paint, a new trunk mat, and a full-sized spare with restored jack assembly.

Included with this sale is an extensive options list and a breakdown of all the major casting and stamped numbers.

Almost every single component used on this 1969 Chevelle Super Sport convertible is either original, or date-code correct. The restoration on the car is spectacular and a great deal of time has been taken to ensure that it presents better than it rolled off the Baltimore assembly line. It's fast, stylish, comfortable and has universal appeal that's lasted for over 40 years. But if past big block convertibles are any indication, it won't last long in our showroom. Call now!
