Description

Despite being best-known for their classic good looks and pure American style, late '50s Chevys were the hot rod of choice for many a young gearhead who had a thirst for power and a need for speed. Today, truly spectacular tri-five resto-mods are much more common than their decades-built stature would lead you to believe. That means, to really turn heads, enthusiasts need cars that are exceptionally well-done. A fitting example would be this awesome '57 210, which mixes modern small block power with substantial drivetrain upgrades and a comfortable custom interior. If you've been searching for a striking tri-five showpiece, but want something that's a heck of a lot more fun than a restored-to-original car, this spectacular Chevy simply can't be beat!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Introduced to defend Chevrolet's turf in the middle of the market, the 210 was a well-rounded offering that combined the practicality of the brand's entry level 150 with the style of its hot Bel Air. And when you take one look at this clean hardtop, you'll understand exactly why the marque was a colossal sales success. Mixing a tailored profile with a tough stance, the car definitely conveys genteel aesthetics in an era of elaborate design. During an extensive, body-off restoration, which wrapped in late 2008, shapely sheetmetal was fully stripped and painstakingly worked into a tight profile that serves as a solid foundation for unbroken reflections. Those reflections are provided by a flashy combination of Shoreline Beige and Hugger Orange 2-stage, which was augmented with small mirrors, tinted glass, a short antenna, RainGear electric wipers and a truckload of polished 210 trim. And today, this legendary classic rolls as one razor-sharp tri-five that's poised to show and raring to go!

ENGINE

Pop the hood and you'll find a reliable, 350 cubic inch Chevrolet small block that's been polished, rebuilt and fitted with proven Street & Performance throttle body fuel injection. Revs are created when a polished and finned air cleaner floats wind through a lightweight aluminum intake. At the perimeter of that intake, polished center-bolt valve covers hang a polished breather over cast iron exhaust manifolds. Behind that breather, a traditional points distributor shoots spark through loomed 8mm high temperature plug wires. At the front of those looms, a Concept One serpentine drive spins modern power steering beneath a polished AC compressor and polished Powermaster alternator. At the front of those ancillaries, a big aluminum radiator plays well with a giant, electric puller fan. And, professionally rebuilt by Grooms Engines of Nashville, Tennessee, the Chevy Orange mill looks right at home in the car's spotless engine compartment.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Combining a 1-piece California frame with factory suspension components and fresh Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks, this 210 provides a ride that's both comfortable and durable. At the center of that Satin Black skeleton, a proven GM 700R4 4-speed funnels torque to a stout GM axle. At the front of that smooth drivetrain, a power-assisted 605 steering box makes quick work of tight spots and sharp turns. Stops come courtesy of a chrome booster, which jolts a familiar combination of discs and drums. At the center of the floor, spent gases float from the aforementioned manifolds in to 2.5-inch exhaust pipes, which follow dual-chamber Flowmaster mufflers with polished stainless turndowns. And all that mechanical goodness rolls on chromed U.S. Mags Ramblers, which spin 235/35ZR20 Delinte Thunder D7s in front of 255/35ZR20 Delinte Thunder D7s.

INTERIOR

Peer through the car's smoked windows and you'll find a custom leather interior that features a slew of convenient upgrades. Power front bucket and rear bench seats, cribbed from a Dodge Intrepid, don soft hides that display no significant wear. Between those thrones, a Dodge Intrepid console centers two cupholders behind modern Kenwood audio. Above that island, a painted dash hangs attractive Dakota Digital telemetry over controls for the car's Vintage Air climate system. At the edges of that ledge, custom side panels anchor polished handles in front of power windows and power door locks. On the floor, premium carpet floats color-keyed mats. In front of the driver, a polished steering wheel spins a leather-wrapped rim around a tilting Ididit column. And behind the passengers, a custom-upholstered trunk frames a full-size spare tire.

If you're looking for an exceptionally nice tri-five that's twice as much fun, and twice as reliable, as an all-original roller, this hugger hardtop is your hot ticket!
