Description

Do a quick Google image search for “hot rod” or “street rod” and you'll see two predominant patterns: a whole lot of flames and a whole lot of Fords. While it's hard not to love a good set of flames, brand loyalty can definitely stand between some enthusiasts and a Ford. Heck, even if you're a blue oval diehard, it's just nice to see something a bit different every now and then. That's why this 1935 Chevrolet Master is such a refreshing change of pace. From its leather-lined cockpit and massaged 350 to its thoroughly updated chassis, this bowtie is one of the coolest classics on the block. If you're ready for a different kind of rod at a fraction of the build cost, take a minute to learn about this sweet Chevy!

BODYWORK/TRIM

The beneficiary of a 4-year build that was completed in 2016, this restoration-fresh sedan is one stylish street rod! On the outside of the car, genuine Chevrolet steel was relieved of its factory wood, fitted with fiberglass fenders and transformed into a sleek canvas that features a collection of excellent gaps. That canvas was highlighted in a rich combination of GM Active Red Metallic and Chrysler Linen Gold Pearl. And that slick 2-stage was detailed with black pinstripes and a silver divider stripe. At the front of the car's elegant profile, a polished grille centers a winged bowtie between polished headlights, an Art Deco grille topper and a polished bumper. Behind that grille, a stainless-trimmed hood fronts an electric cowl, electric wipers and a smoked greenhouse that backs a 1-piece windshield. At the sides of that glass, hidden hinges found factory suicide doors between polished handles, custom mirrors and stainless-trimmed running boards. And at the back of those boards, 2-inch widened fenders plant custom stands and LED taillights between a stainless-trimmed trunk, a second polished bumper and polished exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Fold the hood and you'll find 350 cubic inches of balanced GM small block that transforms this classic from a blue-collar courier into a wing-footed warrior. At the top of the clean mill, a heartbeat-themed air cleaner funnels wind into FiTech Go EFI 4 600HP fuel injection. That power adder floods a painted high-rise intake with the help of a quality Lokar linkage. At the back of that plane, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences spark between an MSD Blaster 2 coil and thick Mallory Pro Wires. Below those wires, flame-themed valve covers hang polished breathers over lucid roller rockers and lightweight aluminum heads. Beneath those heads, a Comp Mutha Thumpr cam slings spent gases through cast exhaust manifolds. In front of those tubes, a polished VIPS accessory drive spins a polished alternator next to a polished AC compressor. Cooling comes courtesy of a beefy aluminum radiator, which is planted between a big puller fan and a polished expansion tank. And niceties like Lokar dipsticks, a polished master cylinder and a color-keyed engine bay thoroughly enhance the car's performance and appearance.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Combining a Mustang II front-half with a Chevrolet Super Sport rear-clip, this Master provides a comfortable, durable ride that's spiced by improved handling. At the center of the car's boxed and powder-coated frame, a proven 700R4 4-speed, mated to a 2,600 RPM stall, sends torque to a dressed posi-traction pumpkin that's fitted with 3.43 gears. At the front of that awesome drivetrain, power rack-and-pinion steering makes quick work of tight spots and sharp turns. At the corners of the car, vacuum-assisted discs provide smooth and solid stops. And all this mechanical goodness rolls on snazzy Cragar Street Pros, which spin 235/70R15 Cooper Lifeliner Classic IIs in front of 255/65R17 BF Goodrich Long Trail T/As.

INTERIOR

Peer through the car's power-operated windows and you'll find a custom Taupe interior that's clean, simple and comfortable. Power-operated seats stretch soft leather hides under 3-point belts. Between those seats, a custom console props Vintage Air Gen IV climate control above remote-controlled Jensen touchscreen audio that features Bluetooth capability, GPS navigation and a backup camera. In front of that island, a 2-tone dash frames classy Dolphin gauges in polished billet trim. And in front of the driver, a polished, leather-wrapped steering wheel laps a polished, tilting column.

* A book of build literature

A lot of cars claim to be the total package, but this '35 Chevy actually lives up to the hype. The stout 350 has surprisingly good manners and, paired with the smooth-shifting transmission and thoughtful interior, serves as the basis for one of the most comfortable hot rods we've seen. So, buy it for the bowtie, buy it for the build quality… Just make sure to buy it quickly because unique, road-ready street rods never stick around for too long!
