BODYWORK/TRIM

Not too long ago, this authentic 242 VIN GTO was mounted on a rotisserie and given a full nut-and-bolt restoration. That freshening, conducted by the pros at Sugarloaf, Pennsylvania's Tony's Muscle Cars, sports a rich coat of black 2-stage that was detailed with Haartz Stayfast cloth. And today, this handsome Poncho walks a fine line between tastefully modern and traditionally conservative. At the front of the car's sinister profile, a flashy dual-port grille founds ornate parking lamps and a prominent “G T O” emblem between a fresh bumper and stacked headlights. At the top of that grille, a broad hood centers a small scoop in front of fresh glass that's framed in straight stainless and cleared by mirrored wipers. At the sides of the car, sporty GTO emblems add a little pizzazz, while traditional door handles and a polished mirror perfectly complement requisite wheel lips and dent-free rocker moldings. And out back, a stainless-trimmed valance hangs louvered taillights and wide “P O N T I A C” lettering between and a fourth “GTO” emblem and a second bumper that's finished with clear reverse lamps.

ENGINE

Hoist the hood and you'll find 6.2 liters of small block fury! Officially known as the GM Gen IV LS3, that all-aluminum mill creates a respectable 480 horsepower. And despite consistently delivering track-blistering, low-end performance, it revs to 6,600 RPM and regularly achieves over 20 MPG! Up top, a polished air tube and remote Spectre filter element funnel wind in to a factory throttle body and painted, composite intake. That air marries fuel in rectangular-port L92-style heads, which hide high performance springs under Pontiac-branded rail covers. A nodular crank, powdered connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons compress that volatile union. A hot cam maximizes intake efficiency through better breathing. Speaking of breathing, the smooth mill funnels spent gases through stainless shorty headers. A lightweight radiator fronts a chrome cooling fan. And a modern serpentine drive spins a polished alternator opposite a coated AC compressor. Aesthetically, the gray scale engine bay was completely detailed and fitted with a smoothed firewall just before the engine's clean installation. And items like a chrome brake booster, a trick Holley oil pan, and Hi Performance premium silicone wires convey a sense of top-notch detailing.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Take a gander under this cool A-Body and you'll find a fully detailed chassis that mixes new age technology with old school durability. A Metallic Silver frame reflects thoroughly solid floorpans that are dressed in a clean layer of Satin Black paint. At the center of those floors, a tough Tremec 6-speed makes good use of a glossy GM 12-bolt. Stopping is a cinch thanks to four power-assisted calipers. Exhaust is handled by a series of aluminized pipes, which swirl spent gases through an H-shaped crossover, throaty turbo mufflers and polished side-splitter tips. Factory-style power steering complements a heavy-duty suspension, which benefits from aftermarket control arms. And torque melts the pavement thanks to polished Billet Specialties blades, which spin Nitto redline radials.

INTERIOR

Open the car's long doors and you'll find a conservative Black interior that's stylish and very livable. There's a quartet of seats, two of which are power-operated units sourced from a 2005 GTO, all of which are wrapped in soft leather. In front of those seats, a factory dash hangs Dakota Digital VHX telemetry behind a polished instrument panel, Vintage Air climate control and slick RetroSound audio. At the bottom of that dash, a proven Hurst shifter reflects big kick speakers. And the driver traces the road through a polished steering wheel, which laps a polished, tilting column.
