Description

Savvy gearheads can build 'custom' muscle cars in backyard garages all day long. But when it comes down to sinking big money into a reliable purchase, is that really the car you want? Unless you're just as savvy, and know how to fix one-off pieces if someone miscalculated a bit, probably not. It's not that there's anything wrong with guys building awesome cars themselves. In fact, we'll be the first folks to drool over a really nice custom that shows the creativity of a dedicated enthusiast. But, we also have the ability to offer you professionally built classics that were designed and assembled by some of the best names in the hobby. Fully detailed and ready to rumble, this '65 Mustang fastback is the beneficiary of a detailed, $201K restoration that transformed it in to a magazine-featured pro-tourer. From its Ford Racing small block to its custom suspension, this Ford is the stuff dreams are made of. And if you're looking for an awesome muscle car that you can spend time riding in, instead of time working on, it's an excellent place to park your money!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Steal a glance at this Mustang's super slick body and you'll see what high quality craftsmanship that's performed by a dedicated group of individuals truly looks like. Those individuals knuckle down at a place called Snow's Hot Rods in Ontario, Canada. And, with the help of Ontario friends Stan's Power Paint, they transformed what was a tired, 6-cylinder mule into a show stopping thoroughbred. Appropriately themed 'Paladin', this Ford's 4-year reboot began with a complete media blast and first rate metalwork. Once intense labor had blended that metalwork into excellent fit and finish, a glossy layer of Sikkens Midnight Black was sealed between epoxy primer and Aston Martin Skye Silver stripes. And, after its durable clearcoat had been polished and wet-sanded to the tune of $4K, this gallant pony emerged as a quixotic custom that champions classic style and world class workmanship.

It's obvious that Ford has always sweated the details on the Mustang. And with its completely new brightwork and bolt-on pieces, this fastback presents a professionally finished appearance that goes far beyond nice paint. At the front of the car, modern H4 headlights anchor a stylish billet grille between a Shelby-scooped hood, fresh chrome bumper and bullet-style parking lamps. Behind that hood, pristine glass rides between polished stainless wipers, bright stainless frames and a small racing mirror. At the sides of that glass, a traditionally sculpted profile lays the groundwork for shaved fenders, rolled quarters, classic chrome handles and Shelby cove scoops. And at the back of that profile, a second show worthy bumper reflects factory taillights, a highly detailed fuel filler and a smooth valence that features integrated exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Hoist this coupe's snug fitting hood and you'll find 302 cubic inches of Ford Racing V8 that, thanks to a color-keyed Vortech supercharger, twists 444 dyno-proven horsepower into 423 pounds of stump-pulling torque! Based on Ford's 351 Windsor street block, this buff welterweight wraps Crane roller rockers, ARP studs and a Ford Racing B303 cam in a full array of trophy winning aesthetics. At the top of the Skye Silver mill, a custom cold air intake marries wind with fuel supplied by Mallory rails, a 70mm BBK throttle body and 42lb Ford Racing injectors. The resulting air/fuel mixture makes its way from a Trick Flow Track Heat intake to Ford Racing heads that hide under billet caps and polished valve covers. When those heads flood the cylinders, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences fire between MSD 6AL ignition, an MSD Blaster coil and 9mm Taylor plug wires. As the Vortech's 10psi of boost is sparked into 9 to 1 compression, resultant gases are jettisoned through ceramic-coated BBK headers. The combustion's cooling is provided by a big Be Cool radiator, which stores water between two electric pullers, a widened support and a snazzy catch can. Charging comes courtesy of a custom, color-keyed accessory drive that spins March pulleys around a Sanden compressor and a 110-amp alternator. And overall the car's custom engine compartment is exceptionally well done, featuring first rate ancillaries like an Aeromotive regulator, a small BBK pressure gauge, a remote Moroso breather and a beefy Wilwood master cylinder.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

The bottom of this awesome Mustang is just as impressive as its slick exterior and smooth engine bay. Behind the mean motor you'll find a Tremec TKO 5-speed that's wedged between a Ford Racing flywheel and A Lakewood scattershield. Lift the third pedal and a Centerforce clutch engages a Ford Racing driveshaft, which spins an Auburn posi-traction differential around a Dana 44 axle and big, 3.55 gears. Stopping is a cinch thanks to a Mustang Steve booster, 13-inch Baer fronts and 11.5-inch PBR rears. Exhaust is handled by 2.5-inch, ceramic-coated pipes that are custom-snaked around Borla ProXS mufflers. In front of the transmission, a Rod & Custom Mustang II suspension is augmented by a 1-inch sway bar, 2-inch drop spindles, Aldan Eagle coil-overs and electric rack and pinion steering. At the sides of the rear end, a CTM Engineering T5 is fitted with Pro Shocks coil-overs and progressive springs. Just inside the brakes, Total Control Products frame connectors perfectly complement Satin Black floorpans that have been strategically sprayed with Mercedes sound deadening. Behind the exhaust, a 16-gallon Fuel Safe Pro Cell utilizes a 255 lb./hr. Walbro pump to supply custom stainless lines. At the corners of the car, gorgeous Budnik Arrows spin 215/45R17 Dunlop Direzza Sports in front of 265/35R18 Dunlop Direzza Sports. And all of this fastback's details, from its Ford Racing starter to its big Moroso oil pan, have been carefully planned and professionally executed.

INTERIOR

Pop the car's doors and you'll find an attractive, well-rounded interior that was installed by the experts at Diamond Trim in Ontario, Canada. Fiero-sourced buckets hang fresh leather covers over lowered platforms and Lizard Skin sound deadening. In front of those seats, a Skye Silver dash founds Auto Meter Carbon Fiber Ultra Lite telemetry between a JVC Arsenal head unit and polished AC vents. At the foot of that dash, a custom, Skye Silver console centers a Ford Racing shifter on Vintage Air climate control. Below that console, rich Wilton carpet balances color-keyed floor mats between smoothed jambs, Snow's sill plates and stylish Mustang Steve foot pedals. At the edge of that carpet, custom side panels hang billet hardware between Kaption Audio kick speakers, 8-inch subwoofers and leather-trimmed quarter gills. Above those panels, a molded suede headliner feels as classy as it looks. In front of the driver, a sporty Momo wheel spins a chrome-trimmed rim around a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a custom upholstered trunk hides a big Soundstream amplifier.
