Watching show stopping customs roll through our RK Motors Charlotte showroom never gets old. But sometimes we get the feeling that the modern street rod movement has become more about show and less about go. After all, hot rod culture started with guys who drove their cars out of necessity, but raced them on dry lakes, dirt tracks and drag strips out of desire. And that desire to continually push the boundaries of both performance and appeal spawned legendary events like Pikes Peak and the Mexican Road Race. Built to be driven and enjoyed, this impressive Ford features an appealing mix of retro style and modern performance. And if you're a hands-on rodder who's looking for a car with a little more substance than chrome and bright paint, it's your one-way ticket to good times and great fun!
BODYWORK/TRIM
During its detailed build, this Ford's quality fiberglass was whittled into a striking custom that's smooth, solid and ready to roll. That timeless profile made an excellent foundation for brilliant Metallic Blue 2-stage. At the front of that pigment, a steel shell centers a stainless grille between a polished splitter and painted, dual-mode headlights. Behind that shell, a chopped top hangs smoked glass between a small mirror, an electric wiper and polished windshield trim. At the sides of that roof, traditionally mounted doors hang old school handles between a frenched antenna, coated header dumps and a billet fuel cap. And at the back of the car, chrome-trimmed tail lamps frame a traditional trunk handle.
ENGINE
Pop the hood and you'll find a reliable, 350 cubic inch Chevrolet small block that's been polished, rebuilt and fitted with proven Vortec heads. Revs are created when a K&N air cleaner floats wind in to a Hot Wheels-branded ramjet that's piped with reliable electronic fuel injection. At the perimeter of that intake, polished valve covers hang polished breathers and a polished cap over Sanderson T-Bucket headers. Behind those breathers, a hot distributor shoots spark through loomed GM Performance Parts plug wires. Just ahead of those looms, traditional V-belts spin polished pulleys in front of a polished Powermaster alternator, a polished AC compressor and a polished water pump. And at the front of those ancillaries, a beefy radiator plays well with a polished expansion tank and a giant puller fan. Despite being a thoroughly massaged piece, the Chevy Orange mill looks right at home in the car's white engine compartment. And details like a polished oil pan, trick dipsticks and a roster of stainless hardware mix first-rate looks with first-rate functionality.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
With its modern chassis and great power-to-weight ratio, this Ford is an absolute blast to drive! Behind the hot small block, a dressed 700R4 4-speed twists torque to an awesome quick-change axle. That polished third member funnels power through a transverse leaf rear-clip that's finished with polished hair pins and polished Pete & Jakes shocks. That mirrored clip pushes a transverse leaf front-half that's comprised of a chromed leaf, a chromed drop axle, more polished hair pins and more polished shocks. Stops come courtesy of a traditional combination of disc and drum brakes. And everything rolls on chromed steelies, which spin polished smoothie centers inside two 205/65R15 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 whitewalls and two 255/70R15 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 whitewalls.
INTERIOR
As you probably know, old school hot rods were pretty spartan. But this classic is a bit more than just some time machine replica. Pop the doors and you'll find a retro vinyl interior that's both simple and stylish. At ground level, a sea of blue carpet frames a polished e-brake, trick foot pedals and an exaggerated Lokar shifter. In front of that shifter, a body-matched dash hangs a Classic Instruments Rocket Tach beneath Vintage Air climate control and Stewart Warner telemetry that's sealed behind an engine-turned instrument panel. Seating is provided by a broad bench, which easily adjusts to fit drivers who are well over six feet tall. And, speaking of drivers, they spin a polished banjo-style steering wheel around a polished, tilting column.
Very few pre-war classics possess the kind of reliable, well-rounded performance that fuels street rodding's extravagant folklore. But this hot rod Ford was built to run, and when your foot hits the floor, that's exactly what it'll do! Tired of extravagant show queens that emphasize plastic trophies over proven performance? Want to look good AND go fast? Don't miss your chance to land this fully sorted custom!
